Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

According to the school's instructions, after receiving his number, Shin proceeded into a vast hall.

U.A. High clearly anticipated the sheer number of applicants—every seat was occupied.

At the front of the hall stood an enormous display screen, and in front of it, a podium just big enough for one person.

Once everyone was seated, a figure finally stepped up onto the stage.

"Friends taking the exam, welcome to this exciting live broadcast!"

On the high platform, a middle-aged man in headphones, looking every bit the rock singer, spread his arms wide, beaming with enthusiasm.

"Everyone, say 'HELLO' with me!"

The hall fell completely silent. No one responded, and the atmosphere turned awkward.

"Tch, how boring."

The man frowned, then sighed helplessly, though the smile at the corner of his mouth never faded.

"Next, all examinees, I will begin explaining the details and rules of the practical test—listen carefully!!"

Again, no response. The students just stared at him blankly.

"This practical exam will proceed exactly as stated in your handouts: a ten-minute simulated urban combat exercise.

During this time, you may use any equipment you brought with you. After my explanation, you will proceed to your designated training zones to prepare."

"There are three types of training robots configured by U.A., each worth different points depending on their level of threat.

Using your Quirk to defeat them and collect points—that is your objective."

"And remember—attacking other candidates is strictly forbidden."

Just as he finished speaking, a student in the audience suddenly stood up.

"I have a question."

"Go ahead."

"There are four types of training robots listed in the manual. If this is an error, it would be a rather embarrassing oversight for the No.1 hero academy in Japan. After all, we are here seeking the guidance of exemplary heroes!"

After delivering his question, the boy shot an unfriendly look toward Izuku Midoriya behind him.

"And by the way, that green-haired classmate over there—you've been muttering to yourself this whole time. It's extremely disrespectful to the test site!"

"If you plan to fish in troubled waters, you should leave immediately!"

Seeing this, the man on the podium raised a hand to quiet everyone down, turning the attention back to himself.

"Alright, candidate number 7111, that's a good question—thank you for bringing it up."

"Indeed, the fourth robot is worth zero points. In other words, it's a moving obstacle meant to hinder you. Each field has these 'traps.' While it isn't impossible to destroy them, there's no point in doing so. I strongly recommend you simply avoid them."

"That concludes my explanation. Lastly, I'd like to share our school's motto: The great hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said—'A true hero is the strong one who overcomes life's misfortune.'"

"Now—go beyond, PLUS ULTRA!"

"Alright, everyone—enjoy your trial to the fullest!"

"Please check the number of your assigned venue. Candidates for Field A, come this way."

Around the hall, several teachers began organizing the students into groups, directing them to their respective test areas.

"My venue number…"

In the middle of the crowd, Shin rummaged around for a moment before finding his card.

"'A'?"

Confirming it, he tidied his clothes and started walking after the teacher leading the group toward Field A.

"Hmph. I didn't expect to see you here."

Before Shin had taken more than a few steps, a defiant voice sounded beside him.

"Perfect. I'll finally stomp you into the dirt today."

"…What a child."

Shin cast Bakugo Katsuki a calm glance before turning away without interest.

"Are you looking down on me?!"

Bakugo stiffened instantly, storming up to block Shin's path.

"You—do you dare to compete with me?"

"No. I'm not interested."

"You—!!!"

"Candidates, please refrain from shouting."

The teacher in front stopped and turned back, frowning slightly.

"If you have personal matters, resolve them after the exercise."

"Tch!"

Bakugo clicked his tongue in annoyance, stepping aside to let Shin pass, though he was clearly disgruntled.

"You wait. I'll surpass you in this exam—just watch."

"…Why do you insist on comparing yourself to me?"

Shin's gaze drifted toward Midoriya.

"Shouldn't you be comparing yourself to him?"

"Hmph. That quirkless loser won't even get past the front door of U.A."

Bakugo threw a disdainful look at Izuku Midoriya, then fixed his sharp eyes back on Shin.

"As for you—don't think we're finished. You'd better be ready."
