Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Sudden Kindness Means Something’s Up

After dinner.

Renya stood up and walked straight to his room without saying a word.

Maybe it was the original body's personality, but kneeling to curry favor with Tobirama Senju just wasn't something Renya could bring himself to do.

On the contrary, he instinctively disliked the man.

After all, his parents had died at the hands of the Senju clan!

The hatred between the two clans was the very root of their wars.

Seeing this, Tobirama's face darkened and he said coldly:

"You little brat, you can't even wash the dishes?"

Renya waved a hand dismissively, not even turning his head.

"Old man, your cooking is so bad, and you still want me to do the dishes? Dream on!"

Tobirama instantly exploded, completely losing his usual calm.

"You brat, what the hell do you mean by that?!"

He admitted his cooking wasn't the best, but it wasn't that bad, was it? This little punk was clearly trying to provoke him on purpose!

The Uchiha were the worst. Even their brats were no exception!

Renya turned his head and looked at Tobirama's furious face.

His own expression was deadpan.

"Alright, alright. I'll wash the dishes today, okay?"

His tone sounded like he was trying to coax a child.

He was just making a casual remark—why did the guy have to get so worked up?

Such a grown man, and he couldn't even control his temper...

Tobirama: "???"

He stared blankly as Renya picked up the dishes from the table and walked to the kitchen, his mind still replaying the words Renya had just said.

After a long while, he snapped back to reality, watching Renya's small figure busily working in the kitchen with a mix of embarrassment and frustration.

Had he, Tobirama Senju, just been comforted by a brat?!

The kitchen sink was a bit high, and Renya, standing at only 120 centimeters tall, couldn't reach it. He had to step on a chair just to wash properly.

This was the real reason he didn't want to wash dishes...

After finishing, Renya wiped his hands with a towel and walked into the living room.

At that moment, Tobirama was pretending to read a book.

He had been secretly observing Renya the whole time.

When he noticed Renya entering, he didn't even lift his head.

"Once you're done, you can go back to your room."

Renya ignored him, curled his lip, and scoffed.

"White-haired old man, your cooking really is... indescribable. From now on, I'll cook, and you wash the dishes."

Tobirama raised his head and looked at Renya, suspicion written all over his face.

"You can cook?"

Not long ago, this kid claimed he couldn't cook. And now he says he'll take over the kitchen?

Heh, typical Uchiha brat—full of tricks!

"I wasn't planning on it... but your food is just too awful. I have no choice," Renya sighed.

Tobirama's cooking really was subpar. Honestly, Renya was better at it.

"Fine, I don't like spicy food," Tobirama said. "From now on, don't use chili."

"Like I care. I'm using chili no matter what. Eat it or starve," Renya said with a curl of his lip as he headed back to his room.

Tobirama's mouth twitched as he watched Renya leave, fuming.

"Damn Uchiha brat!"

If it weren't for his big brother forcing him, would he ever have adopted this kid?

"No way, I have to talk my brother out of this!"

As soon as he said it, Tobirama vanished on the spot.

...

Back in his room, Renya wasn't in a rush to train.

He'd just eaten and needed to rest a bit. Lying on the bed, he stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.

"Life was going just fine… How the hell did I end up being adopted by Tobirama Senju?" Renya looked frustrated.

He really couldn't figure it out—why had the Uchiha clan agreed to this?

As a transmigrator, Renya knew the feud between the Uchiha and Senju clans went back over a thousand years, all the way to the time of Asura and Indra.

Given that, the fact that the Uchiha agreed to let Tobirama adopt him…

It was ridiculous.

Sure, Tobirama wouldn't outright harm him, but living under constant surveillance wasn't pleasant either.

With Tobirama's strength, keeping tabs on him would be effortless.

Just imagining a life without privacy made Renya feel suffocated.

"Whatever. No point overthinking it. I'll take it one step at a time."

Renya climbed out of bed, sat cross-legged on the floor, and began refining chakra.

As long as his strength was great enough, no one could touch him.

With that in mind, he focused wholeheartedly on his training.

Even though Renya was only six years old, his chakra reserves already far surpassed those of his Uchiha peers. If he had access to ninjutsu, he could've started learning it already.

Renya estimated that with his current chakra levels, he could easily perform two C-rank jutsu.

He had transmigrated into the Shinobi World without a system and had to rely entirely on his own effort.

Maybe it was the transmigrator buff, but both his physical and spiritual energy were stronger than kids his age. Add in the soul of an adult, and he fully understood how vital power was.

He didn't need to become a god—he just needed enough strength to survive.

After all, not long after Hashirama Senju's death, the First Great Ninja War would break out. Even someone as powerful as Tobirama would die in it.

As for Renya? Forget about it…

The Uchiha were a major clan in Konoha. When war broke out, not only could they not stay neutral, they would have to charge straight into battle.

And with his identity as Tobirama's adopted son on top of that...

At that point, even if he didn't want to go, someone would drag him onto the battlefield.

Unless Renya were a total failure with zero ninja talent and could only live as a civilian...

But in reality, his talent was exceptional. As long as he trained seriously, becoming a Jōnin was almost guaranteed. Even reaching Kage-level wasn't impossible.

Thinking that, Renya threw himself into training with renewed determination.

I mean, seriously—he transmigrated into the ninja world with a top-tier setup. If he didn't work hard, that'd be a total waste of this golden opportunity!

Not saying he'd be punching Kaguya or kicking Madara's ass anytime soon, but at the very least he had to survive the coming wars, right?

...

By the time Tobirama returned, it was already midnight.

From the defeated look on his face, Renya could guess the outcome without needing to ask.

Tobirama had spent hours arguing with his big brother in the Hokage's office. His mouth was sore from all the talking.

But his brother wouldn't budge and even insisted Tobirama look after Renya until adulthood...

Tobirama felt like the sky was collapsing.

He'd only spent a few hours this afternoon with that Uchiha brat, and he was already halfway to a stroke. Just imagining having to deal with him for over ten years made it hard to breathe.

"Damn brat! If I'm going to suffer, you're not getting off easy either!"

Tobirama's eyes glinted with mischief as a crazy grin crept onto his face.

He was definitely up to no good.

Glancing at Renya's room and seeing the light still on, he smirked.

He went into the kitchen and shortly came back with a cup of warm milk, heading to Renya's door.

"You little brat, open up!"

Renya was in the middle of training when he heard Tobirama's voice and frowned in confusion.

What was Tobirama doing here in the middle of the night?

Puzzled, he opened the door.

Tobirama handed him a cup of hot milk.

"Drink this and get to bed early."

Renya was stunned. He had no idea what Tobirama was up to. Why the sudden kindness? Was this a change of heart?

He took the milk on instinct.

"...Thanks."

"Drink it quickly so I can take the cup back," Tobirama said impatiently.

Renya didn't reply. He drank it in one go and handed the cup back.

Tobirama took the cup and said:

"Get some rest."

Then he turned and left.

Renya stared at Tobirama's back, deeply confused.

"What the hell is this old man up to now?"

Sudden kindness? Must be something fishy.

But no matter how long he thought about it, he couldn't figure out what Tobirama was planning.

Eventually, he gave up, lay down in bed, and fell asleep.

Maybe... Tobirama really did grow a conscience?

...

Not long after Renya drifted off, Tobirama appeared outside the window, a meaningful smile on his face.

"Heh... Damn brat."
