Cherreads

Chapter 8 - Chapter Three

Finally! That scoundrel and my brother are gone. They've returned to work, and I'm free to do what I want without any disturbances. Can you believe it? My parents just met that police officer, and they already trust him, tsk.

I started doing my laundry so that this afternoon, I could leave the house without worrying about chores. I plan to work later this afternoon at a famous bar. Why famous? It's a hotspot for the rich and foreigners, so I'm sure they give big tips and they are generous for those working there.

One of my male friends, Patrick, works there, and he offered me a part-time job because he said the wealthy customers give big tips. I quickly finished my laundry since there wasn't much and my clothes weren't too dirty. I took a shower to feel fresh and not look haggard, then got dressed. I wore a simple plain white V-neck t-shirt and black jeans.

My mother must have noticed my outfit because she immediately approached me and asked, "Oh, why are you so dressed up? Do you have plans?" she asked, puzzled.

"Ah, yes, Mom, I'm meeting a friend," I replied. I decided not to tell her I was going to work.

"Oh, okay, just make sure you come home early," she said.

Sorry, Mom, but it looks like I'll be home late tonight. Whatever happens, happens.

As soon as I left the house, I hailed a jeep. Yes, a jeep! That's how I'm getting there. It was more than a thirty-minute ride before I arrived at the bar where Patrick works.

As I stepped inside, I was immediately greeted by smoke, a crowd of people, and incredibly loud music. I scanned the area, looking for Patrick. There he is! It didn't take long for my eyes to spot Patrick carrying glasses of alcohol on a tray.

When he didn't notice me, I tapped him on the back, and he immediately turned around. "Hey, Mary, it's you! I thought it was someone else." Patrick is a bit gay, but it's not obvious because he has a very masculine vibe.

"Why? Who were you expecting?" I said, laughing.

"No one, I just thought some handsome guy was trying to get my attention." Oh, this gay man! With that posture of yours? You don't look gay, sis.

"Anyway, your offer? Do you have any openings now? Let me in as a waitress, please!" Patrick scratched his head before speaking.

"Oh no, Mary, why did you only think of it now? We're full right now! You'll have to wait until tomorrow because someone's leaving," he said seriously. Ugh, just my luck. I came all this way for nothing! Okay, fine, I'll go tomorrow!

"Is that so? Damn. Just give me one of those you're holding." I said, and he immediately took a drink from his tray and handed me the glass.

"Just enjoy yourself here so your trip isn't wasted," he told me.

"How? I'm not much of a dancer," I said, taking a sip of the drink. I almost spat it out; it tasted bitter and a bit spicy.

"Alright, I'll leave you here for a bit because I have many handsome customers over there," he said, pointing with his lips towards my back, so I turned around.

My eyes widened. What is that scoundrel doing here?! It's such a small world, and we're really at the same place again. He didn't seem to notice me and was busy talking and drinking with his companions, who I assumed were also police officers. They were all in civilian clothes.

I suddenly chugged the contents of the glass I was holding; I guess I'll just go home. I didn't get anything out of coming here; it's just annoying. I walked quickly towards the exit. Shit, he might actually notice me because their spot was near the exit, and I was right.

"Mary?" he called my name.
