Chapter 21 - You are eternity

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – PRESENT DAY – NIGHT

The room is softly lit. A table lamp glows near the bedside. The world outside is silent, wrapped in the hush of midnight.

Saif sits up slightly, his stitches healing, his body weak but functional now. He gazes out the window, lost in thought, when the door opens quietly.

Mahi walks in, still in her white coat, holding a thermal cup in one hand.

MAHI (smiling softly):

"Couldn't sleep?"

SAIF (half-smile):

"Not with this hospital tea haunting me."

She chuckles, handing him the cup.

MAHI:

"Black coffee. No sugar. Like you used to drink."

SAIF (surprised):

"You… remember that?"

MAHI (shrugging, casual):

"You were always sitting in the back corner. Chocolate cake. Black coffee. Silence."

She sits on the edge of the window bench, facing him.

He looks at her. Really looks.

Her hair is tied up messily. Her sleeves are rolled. There's a faint pen mark on her wrist from hurried notes.

She's tired.

But still… she glows.

Just like that night.

SAIF'S POV – THE MEMORY BLEEDS THROUGH

Rain pounding on his skin.

Her hands pressing against his bleeding leg.

Her soft whisper: "You'll be okay."

Her eyes — furious at the world but calm with him.

Her lips — cracked, bloody — still murmuring comfort.

Her soul — fierce, fearless, and heartbreakingly kind.

BACK TO PRESENT

Mahi takes a sip of her own coffee, sighs softly, her gaze lost out the window.

MAHI (absentmindedly):

"Funny how life brings people back in the strangest ways."

Saif's heart races. He looks at her.

He wants to tell her.

That ten years ago, she had pulled him out of the jaws of death.

That her bleeding hands had touched his wounds before even her own.

That she was the only light he had ever known in a world that only showed him darkness.

But he doesn't.

Because she doesn't remember.

Because to her, that night was just another moment of compassion.

And to him, it was the moment that defined everything.

He forces a smile.

SAIF (softly):

"Yeah… strange how some people never really leave you. Even if they don't know they ever arrived."

She glances at him, puzzled for a second.

MAHI (smiling faintly):

"That's very poetic for a gangster."

He chuckles.

SAIF (without looking at her):

"Even criminals remember kindness. Especially when it's the first and only one they ever got."

A silence stretches between them.

She doesn't know.

And he can't bring himself to tell her.

Because once he does…

Everything will change.

And maybe he's not ready to lose her all over again.
