Chapter 14 - The start of new fear

Setting: Forest Edge — Just Beyond the City Border

Time: Late Night, Two Days After the Rescue

---

🌫️ Scene Opens:

A storm brews above.

The wind cuts through the trees.

In the distance — sirens echo faintly, still searching for Zayyan.

Because he escaped.

Two officers lay unconscious near the armored van.

Their throats slit.

The trail vanished.

But Zayyan lives — hidden in a cloak, bruised, limping through the forest.

His breath ragged. His eyes wild.

Zayyan (to himself, desperate):

> "She'll come back. She will.

Ahaan won't protect her forever…"

Suddenly—

A whisper of movement.

Zayyan freezes.

He turns.

Nothing.

Zayyan (angrily):

"Who's there?!"

Silence.

He moves forward again — but a voice low and smooth as death speaks from the dark.

---

🖤 THE SHADOW ARRIVES:

???:

> "You should've never touched her."

Zayyan spins — gun drawn — but it's too late.

From behind a tree steps a man in black, face shadowed, eyes glowing cold.

His voice is soft — deadly calm.

???:

> "You watched her like a god.

But I… I worshipped her like a ghost."

Zayyan backs away.

Zayyan:

"Who... who are you?!"

The man steps forward.

The moonlight reveals him for a split second —

> It's Saif.

The silent shadow who had always followed Mahi…

The man who loved her from the dark.

More dangerous than even Zayyan ever knew.

Saif (softly):

> "You made her cry.

I don't forgive that."

One step.

A blade glints in his hand.

Zayyan fires — but Saif is faster.

---

🗡️ Final Moment:

Zayyan falls to his knees.

Blood pools beneath him.

Zayyan (last breath):

> "She was… supposed to be mine…"

Saif (coldly):

> "She was never yours.

She was never mine either.

But now she's free."

One final stab — swift and merciful.

Zayyan slumps, lifeless.

Saif disappears into the shadows…

Like he was never there at all.

---

🎬 Final Shot:

The rain begins to fall.

Zayyan's body lies alone beneath the trees.

Unmarked.

Forgotten.

> Because even monsters meet monsters.

And Saif was the final shadow in Zayyan's story.

Setting: Hospital Rooftop – Evening after Zayyan's death

Characters: Mahi & Ahaan

---

The sky was painted in shades of lavender and gold.

Mahi stood at the edge of the rooftop, arms folded, the wind playing with her hair.

Below, the city was alive — but here, it was calm.

A place between chaos and peace.

Just like her.

Ahaan stepped out behind her, silently.

He held two cups of coffee. Again.

Just like he used to.

Ahaan (softly):

> "Careful, doc. You might get used to the sunsets without bullets."

Mahi turned, a small smile breaking on her lips.

Mahi:

> "And you might get used to showing up with coffee and not guns."

They laughed — for real this time.

He walked beside her, handing her the cup.

They stood quietly for a few seconds, watching the colors change in the sky.

Then… her voice broke the silence.

Mahi (gently):

> "Why didn't you ever tell me who you really were?"

Ahaan sighed, looking down.

Ahaan:

> "Because for once in my life… I wanted to be someone you smiled at.

Not saluted. Not feared."

She looked at him — really looked at him.

Mahi:

> "I would've smiled anyway. You idiot."

He chuckled.

Then she took a step closer.

Mahi (voice shaking):

> "When I was locked in that mansion…

I didn't pray for rescue.

I prayed for you."

Ahaan (softly, eyes misty):

> "And I swore I'd find you…

Even if it killed me."

Their hands brushed. Neither pulled away.

Mahi (whispers):

> "Say it, Ahaan. Please… just say it once."

He turned to her, their faces inches apart.

Ahaan (tenderly):

> "I love you, Mahi Shaikh.

I have — from the first moment you stitched me up and called me annoying."

A tear slid down her cheek — but she was smiling.

Mahi (playfully):

> "Took you long enough…"

She stepped closer, hand on his chest.

Mahi (soft):

> "I love you too, Ahaan Shaikh.

And this time… I'm not going anywhere."

Ahaan's hand hovered near her cheek — unsure.

He had stared death in the face a hundred times…

but this moment — with her —

was the most terrifying thing he had ever dared to want.

Mahi's eyes shimmered, reflecting the last light of the setting sun.

Tears clung to her lashes, but she wasn't crying anymore.

She was feeling. Breathing. Hoping.

And that hope was him.

She stepped closer until their chests were almost touching.

Her hand found his — trembling, warm, real.

Mahi (softly):

> "Ahaan… I don't want strength.

I don't want safety.

I just want you."

His breath hitched.

And then — he leaned in.

Slowly. Tenderly. Desperately.

Their foreheads touched first.

Then their noses brushed.

And just as the breeze kissed her hair —

he kissed her lips.

It wasn't rushed.

It wasn't desperate.

It was everything they never got to say in words.

It was the way he held her like she'd vanish if he let go.

It was the way she sighed into his mouth like she finally found air.

It was the way their broken pieces fit in that one breathless moment.

Her fingers curled into his shirt.

His hand slipped behind her neck, thumb brushing her cheek like he was memorizing her face.

They didn't care about the past.

Or the scars.

Or the people watching from far below.

Because in that rooftop world — it was just them.

Two survivors.

Two souls.

One kiss that said:

> "You're my home now."

---

💗 Final Whisper:

When they finally pulled apart — foreheads still pressed, breath mingling —

Mahi smiled through her tears.

Mahi:

> "Do you know what that kiss tasted like?"

Ahaan (smirking, breathless):

> "Victory?"

Mahi:

> "No.

It tasted like forever."

They stood together beneath the fading sky.

Mahi smiled — the kind of smile she'd forgotten how to wear.

Ahaan whispered something that made her laugh, soft and golden.

They leaned into each other.

A kiss lingered between breaths.

The world below didn't exist.

But above them — across the street — on the crumbling rooftop of an abandoned wing…

He watched.

A silhouette in black.

Face covered by the rim of a hood.

Hands clenched at his sides.

Eyes locked on them.

Unblinking.

Unforgiving.

---

💢 His Thoughts (in silence):

> "He got to hold her.

He got to save her.

But he also made her cry."

"And yet… she forgives him?"

"She chooses him?"

His jaw tightened.

The wind whipped his coat like a warning.

His breath came slow… measured… furious.

He stepped forward into the moonlight just enough to watch Ahaan's lips touch Mahi's forehead.

That was the moment he almost moved.

His hand flinched near his waist — a glint of steel flashed briefly.

But he stopped.

No.

Not yet.

---

🩸 Final Whisper (from the shadow, unheard):

> "Enjoy this peace, Ahaan Shaikh.

But remember…

I've loved her longer than you ever will.

And I'm not done yet."

He turned.

And like a wraith — he vanished into the night, leaving behind nothing but rage… and the promise of a storm.

---

> Love watched from the shadows tonight.

But next time…

It might strike.
