Chapter 36
I stopped as soon as I heard Kayyan's voice behind me. I turned slowly when I felt them arrive and said quietly, trying to hide my nervousness:
"I was just out getting some air. It's stuffy in here."
I saw Kayyan and his friends' eyes scanning me as if looking for something, but then he calmed down and said angrily, "
The little boy's head is gone!"
I was angry for a moment when he called me a little boy. Man, I'm 16 years old, what little boy are you talking about? I wanted to punch him in the face with my new big fist, but I backed down and said suspiciously as I scanned them:
"Did one of you take him?"
The pervert shouted angrily:
"What do you mean by that?"
I stepped forward until I was in front of his face and looked down at him because he was shorter than me now:
"I mean what I said, you pervert!"
Kayyan quickly intervened to calm the situation:
"Drax, Thayron. There's no need to argue, the head isn't here, we'll look for it together."
The man named Drax fell silent after hearing Kayyan's words, but he looked angry at me, his eyes burning with rage.
I said, carefully studying their expressions, trying to gauge their mood:
"He's dead anyway, there's no need for all this fuss. What's going to happen now that the head is gone?"
Kayyan looked at me suspiciously, his eyes narrowing:
"No need for fuss? Don't you know that our organization has been searching for these people for a long time to examine their bodies, and we disobeyed orders and started the autopsy on our own and didn't hand over the young man?"
I was shocked by what Kayyan said. I knew then that I had made a mistake in speaking and that I had revealed my ignorance of something important. I remained silent and did not answer his question, for words would have led me into a grave error.
The fourth man, who had remained silent until now, spoke in a calm voice that betrayed the gravity of the situation:
"In any case, he's coming. We've done what we've done. The only solution now is to give him parts of the young man's body and hope that nothing bad happens."
The situation was becoming more complicated than I had expected. This wasn't just a group of perverts who had cut up my body, they were led by a mysterious agent who was looking for people like me, people with special abilities.
Parts of the young man's body? I thought about his words. That meant they believed I was completely dead and couldn't possibly still be alive. How stupid!
I swallowed hard. This was not the time to reveal my true identity. I had to play along and find out who this agent was and what he wanted. This might be the only way to learn more about what had been happening to my body since birth and why I couldn't die.
