Chapter 13: I know I am a crazy woman
"But big sis, why was she so strong? Even when her awakening had gone a bit out of control, regardless of the rank of her talent she awakened, she shouldn't have been this strong right then."
Aurora heard his question and knew he didn't know much about awakening and hunters, so she decided to enlighten him and explain why this was so troubling.
Her frosty blue eyes looked into his silver eyes as she answered him.
"Kael, listen carefully. You might not know much about awakening, as men rarely awaken, and even when they awaken, it would be a small phenomenon that would go out in a minute or so."
"But in the case of women who awaken talent of higher rank than just F, it's quite a different case. You might be aware of the fact, or perhaps experienced it yourself, that once someone awakens, it triggers a reaction in which world mana helps them in the creation of the mana cores inside them, which was the foundation of their strength and also talent."
Kael nodded to her words, as he was more or less aware of this fact, but his big sis made it much clearer.
"Even so, big sis, how was she so strong? She must have had to pay some price for that strength."
"Kael is so smart."
Aurora, hearing his words along with the praise, raised her hand to pat his head, like she used to do when he was young.
But her hand stopped midway before reaching his head. He might be taller than her now, but she could still reach his head to pat him. That wasn't the problem—she couldn't be so clumsy and lose herself in the moment. This was also the reason she had made the decision to try to stay away from him.
Her feelings would begin to act up if they acted so intimately together with him, and she feared over time she would reach a point where nothing would be able to stop her, no matter the guilt or shame.
But she didn't want to go down that pathway, knowing Kael considered her his big sister. Her love could be a bit scary, and she didn't want to scare him away and break their relation, which was already on a thin line for her.
She felt bad knowing how much she had been controlling his life all this time. If he knew about all the things she had done without his knowledge, he would think she was a crazy woman.
The fact that he never had a girlfriend despite how attractive he was wasn't because he wasn't interested in any girl, but because she made it so that none of his little crushes' confessions ever reached his ears. She didn't feel the least bit guilty about the fact she had used her power and influence in such a way.
Which was enough for even her to realize she was a bit crazy, but only for her sweet little brother.
But one slip-up happened... however, the result of that was something unexpected, out of her calculations, that made Kaitlyn and Kael become apart. What a horrible sister she was to even think of that as a victory. She didn't sabotage it, but she did feel good after it happened. Knowing how Kaitlyn felt, she had acknowledged she needed to make things right in one conversation, but she never did.
If she wasn't crazy, then who might be.
Kael grabbed her hand, which had stopped before touching his head, and pushed it onto his head. Her fingers rested on his white hair as he looked at her and said with a small smile on his face.
"Big sis, why do you have to be so distant just because I have grown up now? I don't mind if you act like how you used to be. If I'm being honest, I would appreciate it if you acted the same way. I really really love that version of you."
Kael was able to tell her this finally and get it off his chest. He had wanted to say this to her all this while but had never been able to because she never gave him any chance to talk. Most of the time she would be outside for her work, and once home, he would only be able to see her inside the dining hall for a little time, and she would disappear afterward. He had no idea where she would go, which didn't make even Aunt Sel question her.
But he had realized she might be coming here to train, and Aunt might be aware of that fact too.
After saying what he wanted, he couldn't look her in the eyes because it did make him feel a bit embarrassed. He knew it wasn't going to be easy because sometimes it was much harder to communicate with those who were closest to you.
It was making him anxious about what she might say to him now. Would she think he was childish? Would it cause her to be irritated? Questions were spiraling in his head.
He just hoped she might not like to act like she used to before, but at least hoped she would talk to him more and at least spend some time together with him from time to time.
He was about to say that she didn't have to answer him, as her hand on his head hadn't even moved yet.
Before it could happen, her hand ruffled his hair gently. He looked up to meet her eyes. Others might not be able to tell, but Kael noticed the ever-so-slight, tiniest bit of curve on the corner of her lips. He knew she was happy right then.
No answer from her was needed for him to know what she had decided. His heart was filled with overwhelming joy right then. His excitement made him go forward and hug her body tightly. They rarely hugged each other even before, as she wasn't that touchy with anyone and only little with him from time to time, but this was really a big moment for him, he really needed to have a nice long hug.
The fact that he was able to hug her made him realize she was back. As a woman, which meant a hunter, she could have avoided it if she wanted.
