Chapter 15 - Selfless Or Cruel

"Do you really think the baby is completely ordinary?"

Song Horo stared fiercely at Mo Seris, but the latter merely smiled.

There was no martial aura, just a fierce look.

Mo Seris knew that the Third Manager's current attitude was just a posture he was taking for the purposes of negotiation. The roles had been reversed. Song Horo was now the one attempting to sell the infant, while he continuously pushed the price down.

What a wonderful feeling it was to watch the Warrior's frustration mount.

The Third Manager was surely feeling intense regret. After all, Mo Seris had been pushing the deal, and Song Horo was the one who had insisted upon delaying the purchase. He had waited for Song Kiro to deliver the verdict, and now…

"It was your own Medicine Master who informed us, Third Manager," Mo Seris said. "I did not conduct the testing myself, I can only believe what he has said."

Mo Seris cast a subtle glance to the corner of the room.

Song Horo instinctively followed his line of sight.

Song Kiro, seeing the two gazes fall on him, shrunk further. Even when he was standing in an inconspicuous location, next to the Goldmoon officer, he was still being dragged into the conversation.

Did he need to speak up and reaffirm the test result?

Song Horo was complaining internally.

Song Kiro had entered the room late, making the Song Manor look bad. Now he was standing in the corner like a potted plant.

Song Horo briefly wondered what had delayed him, before turning his attention back to the negotiations.

"Immortal fate," he scoffed, "how can we judge such things with certainty? Your Mo Family has methods superior to the Song Family's. If the infant is sold cheaply, and a fate is uncovered, how can I live with the decision I have made as the manager?"

Mo Seris knew that the Third Manager was speaking the truth. The test was correct ninety-nine times out of a hundred, but, with the strangeness of the infant, who could say that he was not that one with the uncommon fate?

The methods of the Mo Family were also better than that of the Song Family, as Song Horo had said.

Could they uncover the hidden talents of the infant?

If so, it would be a huge merit for Mo Seris. The thought was tantalizing.

"Very well, I will add one stone of Black Sand Powder to the price, and you should thank me for it," Mo Seris said. "You and I both know how small the chance is that an uncommon or hidden fate will be found. Without it, I am paying a quarter above the usual agreement."

The price was already higher than normal, but he decided it was prudent to concede, just in case the Third Manager was planning on refusing out of spite.

Even if the infant was talentless, he could explain the deal to the steward as a reasonable gamble. It would not look good, but he also would not face any punishment. The benefits outweighed the risks.

After all, if the gamble succeeded…

Hearing the reluctance in Mo Seris's tone, the Third Manager paused and looked towards his wife, who had not yet risen from the bed. The tears had already dried in her eyes.

A few sentiments were passed between them in a moment's glance.

In all likelihood, their child was not talented. He sensed that the current offer was the bottom line of the Mo Family representative.

He just wanted to check with his wife once before making a firm commitment.

Looking into her eyes, even though there was pain, it was clear that she was telling him to go ahead with the decision. It was what he had expected, but the pain still hurt him.

By sacrificing his child for the good of the family, was he being selfless or cruel?

It was a question he asked himself often.

However, someone had to sacrifice their child, and it had already come to this.

"Agreed," Song Horo said decisively.
