Chapter 8 - Sign Of Talent

Naro had learned something important.

The men had been arguing for the entire time he had been aware of his surroundings. However, he had not received 'listening points' for the full period.

Earlier, he had drowned out their voices while he was focused on moving and breathing. It was only when he began focusing on their voices that he gained points. From this, he could conclude that there were no points awarded for passivity. He needed to actively participate in the 'action' to gain points.

Perhaps there were other conditions, but he had not learned them yet.

Of course, while he tried to understand the language being spoken by the men, Naro had not forgotten his other practices.

The notifications stacked continuously in Naro's field of vision. He felt a moment of dissatisfaction.

He did not plan on stopping his actions any time soon. Did this mean that the notifications would be permanent?

Just as the wish to hide the notifications appeared in Naro's mind, he suddenly felt something nudge his unconscious. If he interacted with that subtle feeling, he got the impression that the notifications would disappear.

Why not try?

He focused, and…just like that, his field of vision was cleared.

Nice.

Naro's arms and legs did not stop squirming. He continuously took deep breaths. His ears were focused on the conversation around him.

The notifications had vanished, yet Naro retained a sense of which actions were beneficial. It seemed as though the notifications had somehow submerged into his intuition.

He didn't question it, as the current state was much less distracting than when the notifications were continuously appearing in front of him.

As Naro was gathering points, the doctor in front of him abruptly approached, drawing his attention. Naro had noticed that the doctor had been bent over a few tools, tinkering with them for the last few minutes. Now, what was he up to?

Before Naro knew what had happened, his arm was in a small, cushioned clamp.

He did not offer any resistance. Even if he had wanted to, it would be futile in front of an adult. Instead, he continued to vigorously move his other three limbs.

The sooner he could attain those Laws of Nature, the better!

Mo Seris had not started another argument with Song Horo just for the sake of it. It was because he had fixated on the strange state of the baby.

The medicine man had already attested to its health, and yet it was in constant motion.

Such abnormal behavior, could this be a sign of an immortal fate?

If so, then there was an opportunity before him. If he could negotiate a price before the talent was assessed, even if the price was slightly higher, then he could walk out with a talented infant that he had purchased cheaply.

Perhaps he would even be noticed by one of the managers in the Mo Family!

Unfortunately, this opportunity was difficult to take advantage of, as the Third Manager was annoyingly stubborn.

"You say that your time is valuable, but I am not forcing you to stay," Song Horo said.

"It just seems wasteful. My Mo Family could conduct this test in a third of the time it's taking," Mo Seris said, scoffing.

"Again, what does the Mo Family have to do with a Song baby?"

Mo Seris felt it was time to lay his trap. Otherwise, he might not have another opportunity.

"Third Manager, the talent has not yet been tested. I can take the baby for a slightly higher price to compensate. Why don't you just give him to us now. No need to assess the talents and waste time."

"What is a slightly higher price?" Song Horo asked.

Mo Seris put on a slightly reluctant expression. "As it so happens, one of our hunting teams came across four Jade Snakes in the Ghost Whispering Forest earlier this week. I could eat a loss and trade those four skins for this baby, and save some trouble from our side in the process. A deal like this, I almost feel too uncomfortable to make it."

Song Horo frowned. Four Jade Snake skins were worth about 100,000 silver, making the offered deal twice that of the ordinary price. It was well outside of his expectations that the representative would raise the stakes so abruptly.

He also did not believe in coincidences. The price offered was the one that the representative intended to give.

If it was a bit high, it was only because he wanted Song Horo to accept it without thinking deeply.
