đ Chapter 24: The Woman Beside Him
The ballroom shimmered under crystal chandeliers, every guest draped in elegance and quiet ambition.
But all eyes turned when Arielle stepped inâwearing a fitted crimson dress that hugged her silhouette perfectly, her hair swept up, a single diamond teardrop earring catching the light.
Leonard paused mid-conversation with a board member. His gaze found her instantly, and for a full five seconds, he forgot how to breathe.
She was stunning.
But more than thatâshe was his.
Arielle walked toward him with careful grace, the click of her heels like a countdown in his chest. He extended his hand without thinking.
"You clean up well," she said with a soft smirk.
"YouâŠ" He cleared his throat. "You look⊠distracting."
She arched a brow. "That good, huh?"
He didn't answer. But his eyes never left her face
The peace didn't last long.
Just as Leonard was leading her toward his mother, a familiar voice interrupted.
"Arielle?"
She turned.
A tall man with easy charm and sharp brown eyes approached, holding a glass of champagne and a smile that was far too familiar.
"Evan," Arielle murmured, clearly surprised.
Leonard's hand subtly tightened around hers.
Evan laughed. "I almost didn't recognize you. You look⊠breathtaking."
Leonard's jaw ticked.
"We were just heading over to greet someone," he said coolly.
"Oh, come on," Evan grinned. "Let me borrow her for one dance. For old time's sake."
Before Arielle could speak, Leonard stepped in.
"She's not available. Tonight or ever."
The possessiveness in his voice was clearâso clear it made Arielle's cheeks flush.yr
Evan raised his brows. "Interesting. Didn't expect Mr. Contract CEO to fall for his own terms."
Leonard's eyes darkened. "Watch yourself."
But Arielle was frozen.'
Did Evan know?
Before she could ask, Leonard gently but firmly pulled her away, toward the center of the ballroom.
"You're mine tonight," he whispered.
"And if I say I want to leave?" she challenged'
"Then I'll chase you."
