Chapter 7 - No choice.

Cassandra Ricci - POV

"I am still not happy with you going to that pack, Cassie. But all I can say right now is, be careful and stay away from the wolves, all right?" she asked me when I nodded my head. I have never interacted with a werewolf before, except for Chris, but I only found out about his true identity a few weeks ago.

I have heard that werewolves are aggressive creatures. They tend to get angry very fast, and they are territorial as well. But when it comes to their mate, they are extremely possessive and protective as well, which may seem romantic, but not for me. After Chris, I don't think I could ever mentally prepare myself to stay in the same room with another werewolf. I can still feel the Phantom pain of his kicks, punches, and stabs, which made a shiver run down my spine.

"Cassandra?"

"Huh?" I was broken out of my trance when I felt Abigail's warm hand on top of my cold one.

"Are you okay? You look a little pale."

"I am fine. Anyway, are you going to the Cupid's ball tonight?" I asked her when she nodded her head.

"I came here to speak to you about that as well. I think you should come. You can meet more of our kind and mingle with them." she suggested when I nodded my head. The very reason I didn't want to attend this party was that everyone knows who I really am.

Even though my mother was a witch, my father was a mere human, which makes me a hybrid. It is not unheard of to have a human soulmate, but it is not recommended to mingle with other species since the elders believe that it would make us weak.

Even when I was at school, people tended to avoid me except for Abigail. She stuck by my side even after knowing who I truly am. But no one truly knows how powerful I am. "You are right. I will come." I said, and for a moment, Abigail looked starstruck as she looked at me with a bewildered look on her face.

"Really?" she asked me when I nodded my head. I am not going to this party because Arlo asked me to come, but I am going there for myself. There is no point in running anymore. I think running away had only created more problems, and for once, I want to feel a sense of belonging, and that can only be achieved in this event. "Do you have anything to wear for the event?" she asked me when I shook my head.

"I need to purchase something today," I told her when her eyes twinkled with mirth. "Why do you look like you have won the lottery?" I asked her.

"You know I have been trying to establish my clothing brand?" Abby asked me when I nodded my head. Abby had this dream of one day becoming a topline designer, and she did a few courses for that as well before she launched her small boutique two years ago. Mom and I came for that opening ceremony as well.

"What are you trying to suggest, Abby?" I asked her.

"Why don't you wear something from my collection? You know it might be free advertising for me as well, and you also get a dress for the event. It's a win-win for both of us." she asked me, but I was still a little hesitant. It's not that she is a bad designer, but her designs are not something that I would wear. "I promise, I will get you the most decent one."

"Fine, I think this is the least I could do," I told her when she clapped her hands in glee before getting up from the table without even finishing her food. "Where are you going?"

"Well, to get your dress. Let me get your measurements first, so I can do the alterations and get it here as well," she said when I nodded my head. We made our way to my living room, and Abigail came back there with a measuring tape. After taking my measurements, she left my house while I went back to the kitchen.

There was some cleaning to be done, so I went to work on that, but before I started, I placed an order with the grocery store for my weekly groceries. I was busy cleaning the front lawn when I saw a car park in my driveway and a teenage boy got out with my groceries. "Miss. Ricci?" he asked me.

"It's me," I told him when he gave me the groceries and offered a paper to sign. "Thank you," I told him when he nodded his head and left.

It took me four hours to get everything cleaned, and once I was done, I made my way to my room to take a shower. After a nice long shower, I wore my robe and when I was about to call Abigail, I heard my doorbell ring.

I walked downstairs, and went and opened the door when I saw her standing there with two suitcases. "Are you planning to go somewhere?" I asked her as I stepped aside to let her in.

"No silly, I have our clothes in one bag, and the other contains all the accessories and makeup products," she answered as she walked upstairs When I grabbed one bag and took it up with me.

"Don't overdo anything, Abby. I don't want to be the center of attention tonight."

"Don't worry, I have just the outfit, makeup, and accessories planned out for you. You would not stand out, I promise," she said as we walked into my room. Even though she reassured me that she would keep it simple, I highly doubted that.

Abby placed the larger suitcase on my bed and opened it to reveal two gowns, one was a wine red dress while the other was a purple ombre dress. She took the purple one and gave it to me as I unfolded it and stared at it in horror.

This definitely doesn't scream simple to me.
