Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Looking for Laziel

Zerra blinked in astonishment when she heard that, but Nyra's expression grew cold. She looked like she wanted to kick the man out of the car.

"I am Daniel, by the way. Have you seen it?" He continued to babble, unaware of the expressions of two women in the car. "Those zombies look weak, though, but they are scary in number. How about we wait for my dog first? I will call it. Surely, it will come…"

Cassias seemed aware of the sudden change of emotions in the car. With an icy face, he told him. "Get out if you don't want to join us."

Zerra watched Daniel with thoughtful eyes. She swept her gaze to Cassias and Nyra's expression and immediately corrected her previous guess. No, this man wasn't going to be in the protagonists' camp like she had thought.

Since he had offended the two protagonists, then his role must have been a cannon fodder like her, right? On top of that, they didn't immediately kick him out, which was weird. So, his presence must have served an important role in the incoming plot.

Tsk, they just picked up a troublemaker with a bad ending.

The brief pity in Zerra's eyes and aggressiveness in the air drove the man into stutters, "I-I just pity my dog, that poor thing."

He was covered in dust. Some dirt smeared his face, like he had been having a rough time before he found them. The Sylvaris sisters wouldn't have recognized him if not for him mentioning about his dog.

Nyra's expression hardened and she spat, "Then get out and go find your dog."

He shrunk further in his seat, subconsciously scooting away from Nyra. Her expression looked like she was about to swallow him whole. He was terribly scared.

Now that the man became quiet and pretended to look outside the window, Cassias started the car. Behind them, some zombies already appeared among the bushes and fallen trees, walking toward their car.

Zerra watched those zombies which were walking so slowly, dragging their feet, with a look of surprise. Her forehead wrinkled. Her mind was deep in thought.

From the way they walk, even Grandma was faster than them. More ferocious and deadly. Was it because Grandma still had her last consciousness? The more she resisted, the stronger she was? Zerra couldn't determine it for the time being.

At last… she glanced at the quiet Nyra and attributed it to the female lead's presence.

From the window, she saw a lot of scenes. Zombies munching on a living human on the streets. People trying to fight them off or running from them.

As soon as those zombies saw and heard the sound of their car, they immediately chased after them. Yet, they never managed to even touch the corner of the car before Cassias, with his excellent driving skills, outrun them.

"Where do you guys plan to go?" Cassias suddenly turned his head to Zerra and asked her.

She was bewildered and couldn't answer. Wasn't he supposed to be asking Nyra instead of her? Nyra had more power than her, the freeloader.

Then it also dawned on her that she was the one sitting in the passenger seat, not Nyra. Subconsciously, she turned to Nyra.

"We are going to find our brother, Laziel." Nyra instantly answered. Her face became taut with worry. Zerra nodded in agreement.

Since finding Laziel in this kind of situation was akin to searching for a needle in a haystack, Nyra had considered looking for the second male lead, Darren, to seek his help. His family had the most influence in this city, after all.

"He was on his way here." Nyra explained. Even though the chance was one in a million, her voice suddenly held a hope. "You haven't seen him, Mr. Virethorn?"

Cassias shook his head. "I am already here some days prior."

Zerra looked at him weirdly. This man rushed here as soon as he heard that Nyra visited her grandma? Well, that suited him.

"Did you happen to see us on your way somewhere, Mr. Virethorn?" Nyra asked again.

Cassias' tone was emotionless as he replied, "No, I thought of picking up Zerra."

Zerra's ears perked up. What a dog man. Using her as an excuse to find the female lead!

"Do you have a plan to go somewhere now? If not…"

"We can look for Laziel."

Nyra's face, which was faintly stained with tears, now had a grateful look on her face. "Then, I will thank you, Mr. Virethorn."

She continued, "How about finding Darren Valez? I know him. He might be able to help us find him."

As the two conversed, Zerra became as quiet as cannon fodder 2, who was shivering in the car when he saw the sight of zombies outside. Cassias and Nyra never talked about those things, as though they had silent acquiescence.

"Are you hungry?" Cassias suddenly asked Zerra.

She wanted to say no. However, as soon as she thought of delicious food, her stomach rumbled. Her cheeks heated up in embarrassment in an instant. Damn it!

"We already brought some supplies here." Nyra's hand reached for the backpack she had placed between herself and Daniel, but Cassias' words halted her movement.

"No, save those for later. It wouldn't be enough to last for a few days." His gaze trained on the building ahead. An abandoned supermarket.

His eyes flashed. "Since the situation of the world has become like this, we must adapt. There would never be enough supplies. We can take some from the supermarket ahead."

"Any objection?" He raised his question.

Zerra understood that neither of them was willing to reveal their secret stash at this moment, and they could only take the safest route.

The silent Daniel pursed his lips, but secretly agreed with Cassias' words amidst his fear. He realized that when he went out. He brought nothing. Because of those zombies, he also couldn't go back home.

Cassias parked his car, and they got out, heading toward the supermarket. The rain had just ended and people were still afraid of going out, so the surrounding was incredibly quiet.

It took a while with Cassias' strength before he could pry open the supermarket's door. Zerra was astonished by this man's strength. Luckily, the door wasn't an automatic one. Otherwise, once a zombie appeared, they could easily get inside.

He used some kind of rope to piece the door back together and they went inside.

"Pick anything you need and be quick about it."

Daniel instantly went to get his own backpack. Meanwhile, Zerra also wandered on her own. Occasionally, she would list things that weren't available in her inner space and went to look for them.

Like sanitary pads.

She thought about it for a moment and also decided to get her own backpack like others.

The supermarket has two floors. She knew that Cassias and Nyra were on the second floor, filling in their space.

She was currently on the first floor, looking for the area where they had stored their grains. It would make it more believable when she returned the grains to Cassias in the future if he found out that all the grains were missing… it would make a lot more sense for her explanation.

A shadow passed by her, snapping her out of her thoughts. She was so occupied that she hadn't noticed what was happening ahead.

"Move out of the way!"

As the warehouse slammed open, a hand pushed her inside. Toward the horde of zombies that now jumped toward the warehouse's exit door.

She recognized the voice and color of the clothes to be Daniel's.
