Synopsis
In Ceylan, a continent enslaved by the Church for a millennium, magic is a death sentence. Horne Memhelin, a humble library scribe, unleashes forbidden power after discovering an ancient magic array hidden on a parchment. Chained to the gallows for his heresy, Horne's awakened magic shatters his bonds, unleashing a storm that destroys the cathedral. Declaring "Gods are dead. Magic shall rise!", he embarks on a quest to reclaim lost spells, forge pacts with spirits, and build a new magic order. As his creations topple the Church's might, Horne, the prophesied "Fatebreaker", ignites the Age of Magic. But this is only the beginning of humanity's war against the divine as Duskfall approaches.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

Prologue

In the square in the center of Leen City, dozens of wooden stakes stood side by side. A person with numerous wounds and a numb look in their eyes was tied to each stake.

Countless civilians surrounded the square. In their gazes directed at the execution stand in the center of the square, there was not only excitement and disdain but also, more prominently, cruelty!

The sky was tinged with a bluish color, the color of the power of the North Wind God.

A figure in a white robe slowly descended in the center of the square along with the howling wind.

Horne was the youngest, so he was tied to the last wooden stake. His parents were standing on the periphery of the square, looking at him.

They looked at him as if he were a monster!

It was also them who reported the eight - year - old Horne to the North Wind God Cult as a wild witch!

In Horne's eyes, they were more like demons!

The man in the white robe had a hooked nose and upturned eyes, and he had a head of beautiful long hair. He showed a fake smile to the onlookers on the periphery of the square.

He shouted loudly,

and with the help of the wind - type divine magic, his voice spread throughout the square.

"What are they?" The man in the white robe pointed at the tied people and said.

"Wild witches!" The civilians shouted in unison.

"What are wild witches?" The man in the white robe shouted at the top of his voice!

"Minions of wizards!" The onlookers replied, their expressions slightly crazy.

"What should we do with the minions of wizards?" The upturned eyes of the man in the white robe were extremely terrifying in Horne's eyes.

"Burn them! Burn them!"

The shouts of the civilians were in perfect unison, and there was even a hint of excitement in their voices.

The man in the white robe smiled and gave the order to the black - robed deacons around the stake to start the execution!

"You minions of the wizards, I, on behalf of the will of the North Wind God, sentence you to be burned at the stake!"

At the behest of the man in the white robe, a black - robed deacon placed his hand on the chest of the first person, and a pale bluish flame spread from his palm.

The execution began!

Each wild witch being burned to death wailed and pleaded for a chance to live before dying.

But no one listened to their last wishes before death. Finally, the black - robed deacon walked in front of Horne.

At this moment, Horne's eyes were empty, nothing like the colorful eyes of a normal child.

Suddenly, the scene became chaotic. Countless flames and boulders rained down from the sky, and many clergy members scattered and fled.

This doomsday - like scene seemed like the arrival of hope to Horne.

Horne couldn't remember what happened later. All he could recall was that the man with the upturned eyes in the white robe had his head on fire, and a figure in a black robe holding a long staff...
