Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Selene'sPOV

"Where are they Nanna?" I asked as I waited by the window for my parents to pull up the driveway, they always choose work over me it seemed.

It's my Birthday!

"They're probably stuck in traffic, you know your dad drives like your grandpa." My Nanna scratches the back of her head nervously.

Once she noticed I was staring she rushed over and pinched my cheeks something she always does to make me smile.

"I know he does." I pause my voice wavering "but, it's my birthday couldn't they like not go to work?" I asked my eyebrows pulled together in confusion.

"Your father is a very powerful alpha and your mother is a very assertive Luna, their work is very important and dangerous, one day you'll understand." She smiles and before my nine-now ten year old brain can process her subliminal meaning something better is brought up.

Presents.

"How about you open one of my present to pass time." My Nanna smiled and I returned a toothy grin shaking my head furiously.

She handed me a present and I shook it to get a hint of what it was, sometimes I guessed the present before I even opened it. I was good at that.

"Ah ah ah no cheating." She smiled pinching my cheeks which earned her a light giggle.

I was peeling the wrapping paper off just then the door bell rang.

"Maybe it's your mama and papa." My Nanna smiled and I perked up shoving the Present off my lap and running to the door, I opened it with the biggest smile on my face which quickly fell.

I looked down to see my parents there but not as one would expect, my mama and papas heads were severed off and thrown on the door step.

Blood oozed out of their severed veins at a steady pace racing towards where my feet lie, rooted into the ground motionless.

Everything looked like it had just happened; there was nothing left of my parents, not even a body.

All that was left were pale skin, no movement, dull and vein-filled eyes, and opened mouths.

Time seemed to stop, every amazing moment that I had with my parents seemed to dance behind my eyes filling me with happiness, euphoria, and lastly with realization that my parent were gone, heartbreak.

I remember the faint questioning of my grandma and her worried tone "who is it?" rang in my ears but I couldn't respond nor look away.

My tiny figure shook vigorously as I coped with the fact that I would never hear my dads laugh, never hear my moms melodic and heart tugging voice that she sang me to sleep with even in the endless hours of the night, I would never feel the warmth and love I felt when I had a nightmare and snuggled up in their bed.

I would never see my moms nurturing and warm brown eyes, her stern stare when she knew I was in the wrong, her light laugh that filled my heart with joy.

I would never be able to sit and admire her as the unstoppable force I once pictured her being as she brushed her long red hair and applied her makeup.

And my dad.

I would never hold a flashlight in the freezing cold as he pretended he knew what he was doing to fix the car, I would never wake up to the smell of peppermint tea and pancakes, I would never watch him nervously get ready for a date with mom.

I would never be kissed on the forehead and tucked into bed, I would never be able to spend hours upon hours shooting archery with him.

I would never run as a wolf with my parents.

Only then did I let out a piercing scream-

I woke up from my sleep, my breath rugged, my heart beating furious against my ribs, and my hair molded to my neck due to the temperature in the room and the sweat clinging to my face, I wiped the beats of sweat from my forehead annoyed.

Sitting up in my bed sluggishly, I let my legs dangle over the edge before getting up and making an effort to walk into the restroom. I tugged off the clothes that reeked of sweat and disappointment and turned the water to the cold setting.

My breaths were still rugged by the time I grew enough balls to step under the shower head but after a while my temperature slowly dropped, washing and rising myself along my hair with gusto I stepped out the shower wrapping myself in a towel and walking out to my closet.

"You've gotta stop having those dreams." My wolf

Amara muttered in my subconscious.

"You think I want to be having those flashbacks?!" I shot back furious.

Sensing my no bull shit mood she quickly cut communication with me and I was delighted.

I threw my hair into a tight pony tail, then threw on my clothes which consisted of black and grey Dri-fit leggings, a white tank top, a zip-up, and the some nike runs, I pulled on the watch my grandma gifted me on the depressing day of my tenth birthday and checked the time.

5:49 AM my clock read, I took out my little black book and jotted the time down under all the other times I've been woken up by the same scarring and tormenting dream or nightmare I should say.

4:18 AM

5:12 AM

6:38 AM

2:21 AM

And so on....

I grabbed my bow along with my quiver that was filled with arrows and jogged downstairs to see my grandma there making breakfast.

"Grandma." I greeted giving her a side hug and kissing her on the cheek.

"My beautiful granddaughter." She smiled as she scanned me over but quickly her smile turned into a frown when she saw the bow in my hand.

"Out training so early." She looked at me concerned.

"Here making breakfast so early." I shot back innocently.

"Seriously sweetheart." She pleased and I sigh

"Grandma don't-" she cut me off.

"Are you still having nightmares." Her eyes searched for mine but I looked everywhere but hers.

"Don't." I spoke more harshly some would be dead if they spoke to the Luna like that but perks of being the alpha's granddaughter.

"Selene." She spoke my name so soft and cautious like I would break if her voice wasn't lower then

monotone.

"Holding this hate in your heart won't do anything but make you go to a place so dark and evil that nothing can heal your black heart." She held my cheeks in between her smooth hands and I almost choked as her eyes mirrored my dads.

The light and dark blue contrasting letting you clearly see them swirling with worry, concern, hurt, and many more emotions I couldn't place.

"The damage has been already done." I looked down at the ground pushing back tears that were forcefully trying to make an appearance.

"Don't go to that place your grandpa almost did, you saw what happened." Just on cue my grandpa came out of his office his brown hair slowly loosing a battle with his grey hairs.

After the incident my grandpa had went on a rampage of slaughtering rogues and any other packs that refused to help with any information on my parents.

The thought that his son and daughter in law just vanished, unseen, the most powerful Alpha and Luna in the Northern and Western Hemisphere of Oregon just gone with no witnesses.

He snapped, became depressed, angry at the world, and nearly circled the drain to insanity, my grandma ran the pack for a year or two before she had enough and demanded he get his shit together or step down as alpha.

"Selene, amica mea." My grandpa greeted my grandma and I as always, I found it cute that he always gave her pet names in Latin amica mea (my love) was always his favorite though.

Unlike my grandma, my grandpa didn't question the bow and arrows, he didn't even give them a second glance, he kissed my forehead lips longing there for a second before he pulled me in for a hug and whispered into my ear.

"Don't miss." He smiled and I laughed.

"I will leave your breakfast in the microwave for when you return." My grandma spoke and I nodded.

"Thank you Nanna." The room became tense and the She haunted her movement the same as I did, how the hell could I let the fucking slip, I heard her gasp and something that mimicked a sob rumbled from her throat due to the nickname that slipped off my tongue.

"You haven't called me that since-" before she could finish I rushed out of the back door and jogged into the forest where I usually did my shooting practice.

Finally I could exhale.
