At the Command Center

Later that evening, Dr. Abraham Erskine and Colonel Chester Phillips reviewed the footage from the simulation. They were both impressed with the results—especially with the way Rayn had handled the operation. While Steve Rogers had stood out for his bravery and persistence, Rayn's strategic mind was what had caught Erskine's attention.

"He didn't show off," Erskine said, adjusting his glasses. "But he was far more efficient than the others. Not just physically—he's tactical, thoughtful. He thinks before he acts."

Colonel Phillips didn't seem entirely convinced. "You're telling me we should take a risk on someone who's barely made a mark physically? We've got Rogers, who's got a heart of steel and—"

"I don't need another heart of steel, Chester," Erskine interrupted. "I need someone who can think. Someone who isn't just a soldier—they're a strategist. A leader."

Phillips crossed his arms, staring at the monitor. "You're asking a lot, Doc. We've already made a huge bet on Rogers. Do we really want two wild cards?"

Erskine met Phillips' gaze with quiet determination. "Perhaps we'll need two wild cards if one fails."

Phillips frowned but said nothing. Instead, he turned to the monitor, where Rayn's face filled the screen—calm, focused, and almost unnervingly poised.
