Chapter 11 - Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Just then, Bai Yueguang seemed to remember something. She leaned in and whispered into my boyfriend's ear.

"Do you remember those thugs from our last life? The ones in the group chat who said they'd trade supplies?"

"Of course I remember," he replied instantly, frowning.

"They said they were open to bartering, but when we brought that bitch along to trade with them, they robbed us instead. Took everything, gave us nothing. If it hadn't been for them, we wouldn't have died so quickly back then. Why bring them up now?"

He looked confused, but I was already stunned.

So—both of them had been reborn.

No wonder they'd joined forces to set me up last time. If she wasn't reborn like him, how else would she have known what was coming?

I narrowed my eyes and kept listening.

"I've been thinking," Bai Yueguang continued. "It's the sixth day of the apocalypse. Those guys should've already gathered by now. If we contact them and tell them there's a stockpile here, they might be able to get us in."

"As long as they help us break the door open, we'll give them half the supplies."

My boyfriend hesitated. "Have you forgotten what happened last time? We brought supplies to trade, and they robbed us blind. What if they just take everything again?"

"Look," Bai Yueguang said, her voice low but urgent, "the lock's been changed. We can't get in no matter what. And it's not like we have anything left to lose. At least this way, we have a chance."

"There's so much stuff inside—do you think they'll really take all of it? Maybe we'll get lucky. Maybe they'll leave us a share."

Even she didn't sound convinced.

But clearly, they had no better options.

After a long pause, my boyfriend finally gave a reluctant nod. "Fine. Let's do it."

Then, as if it were a scene from a tacky romance drama, he pulled her into his arms.

I rolled my eyes.

Seriously, what were these two? Mascots for a production team?

Every day, all they did was hug and whisper sweet nothings like they were in some third-rate live-streaming couple channel.

It was the goddamn apocalypse, and they were out here doing a softcore soap opera in front of my cameras.

Disgusted, I shut off the feed.

I didn't need any more visual pollution.

But something she'd said lingered in my mind.

The thugs from their past life…

Were they the same ones I'd been planning to deal with myself?

If they were… well, this might save me a lot of trouble.

I dozed off with that thought in my head.

The next morning, I turned on the surveillance again.

The moment the camera feed loaded and I saw a familiar bald head, I couldn't help but laugh.

What a coincidence.

The gang of thugs my dear boyfriend went looking for? They were exactly the ones I'd had my eye on.

In the footage, the bald man—known as "Brother Long"—stood in front of the reinforced door, arms crossed, frowning at my boyfriend.

"You sure this place is stocked?"

"Brother Long, I swear on my life," my boyfriend said, nodding eagerly. "Everything in there—I hoarded it myself, bit by bit. But that damn woman changed the lock. I can't get in."

He lowered his voice, trying to sound sincere.

"If you can help me break in, I'll give you half of it. Enough food and supplies to last your crew a long time."

Then, as proof, he whipped out his phone and showed them pictures—photos he'd taken when we were stockpiling, back when I still let him stay here.

Smiling faintly, I leaned back and watched.

This was getting interesting.
