Chapter 16 - Meta City Hospital

Eve stood in front of her closet, deliberating over what to wear for her first day at the new job. She finally settled on a professional outfit and began getting ready.

Roman watched her, his expression thoughtful. "You look great, Desire .You're going to make a fantastic impression."

Eve didn't respond, but Roman's words seemed to boost her confidence. She took a deep breath, feeling more prepared for the day ahead.

As she finished getting ready, Eve gave herself a once-over in the mirror. "Time to start this new chapter," she said, smiling to herself.

Roman nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with encouragement.

With a final check of her bag, Eve headed out the door, ready to take on her new role.

Roman's face fell as Eve headed out the door. "Hey, wait! Can I follow you to the hospital? Make sure you're okay on your first day?"

Eve chuckled and playfully shook her head. "No way, Roman. I don't need a spirit tag-along today."

Roman's expression turned sheepish. "I'm just trying to help."

Eve teased, "I appreciate that, but I don't want more spirits lurking in the hospital to see me and decide to follow me around. One annoying spirit is enough."

Roman's face lit up with amusement, and he grinned. "Hey, I'm not annoying!"

Eve laughed and headed out the door. "See you later, Roman."

As Eve stepped into Meta City Hospital, she couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The magnificent building towered above her, its sleek design and modern architecture a testament to the hospital's commitment to excellence.

She walked through the lobby, taking in the clean and well-maintained environment. The floors gleamed, and the air was fresh and sterile. Eve felt a sense of pride knowing she'd be working here.

As she made her way to the staff area, she was greeted by friendly faces and professional staff who seemed dedicated to their work. Eve's excitement grew; she knew she was in good hands.

"Wow," she breathed, "this hospital truly lives up to its name."

Dr. Smith, the department head, smiled warmly as he introduced Eve to her team. "Everyone, this is Dr. Eve, our new surgeon. I'm sure you'll all make her feel welcome."

The team members nodded and murmured greetings, their faces friendly and curious.

After the introduction, Dr. Smith led Eve to her cubicle. "Welcome to your new workspace, Dr. Eve. I'll get you settled in."

He handed her a stack of medical files. "These are some patient cases we're currently working on. I'd like you to review them, get acquainted with our procedures and protocols."

Eve nodded, taking the files. "Thank you, Dr. Smith. I'll get started right away."

As she began flipping through the files, Eve felt a sense of excitement and focus. She was ready to dive into her new role and make a positive impact.

Eve smiled warmly as Ruby, her first patient, settled into the examination room chair. "So, Ruby, tell me more about your trouble sleeping. When did it start, and what have you tried so far?"

Ruby explained her symptoms, and Eve listened attentively, taking notes. After a thorough assessment, Eve proposed a solution.

"Ruby, it seems like you're experiencing insomnia likely triggered by stress and anxiety. I'd recommend a combination of relaxation techniques and lifestyle changes. Let's start with establishing a consistent sleep schedule and creating a bedtime routine to signal your body that it's time to sleep."

Eve explained the benefits of deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness meditation to help calm Ruby's mind and body before sleep.

"Additionally, I'd like you to limit your screen time before bed, avoid caffeine and heavy meals close to bedtime, and create a sleep-conducive environment. We can also discuss potential underlying issues contributing to your insomnia and work on addressing those."

Ruby nodded, looking hopeful. "That sounds like a great plan, Dr. Eve. Thank you."

Eve walked into the locker room, changing out of her scrubs. Tom, a colleague, approached her with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Eve! Dr. Smith just told me he's got a big case coming up, and you're going to be assisting him."

Eve's eyes lit up with interest. "Really? When is it scheduled?"

Tom nodded. "Later today, actually. You're going to love working with him. He's one of the best."

Eve's face set in determination. "I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for letting me know, Tom."

Just then, Dr. Smith called out to her. "Dr. Eve, let's get ready for the procedure."

Eve nodded to Tom and headed out to meet Dr. Smith.

Eve followed Dr. Smith to the operating room, her eyes scanning the sterile environment as she donned her surgical gown and gloves. Dr. Smith, an experienced surgeon, nodded to her as they prepared for the procedure.

"Today, we're performing a laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove the patient's gallbladder," Dr. Smith explained, his voice calm and focused. "You'll assist me throughout the procedure, so pay close attention."

Eve nodded, her eyes fixed on the monitors displaying the patient's vital signs. As the anesthesiologist administered the anesthesia, Dr. Smith began the procedure, making a small incision in the patient's abdomen.

With precise movements, Dr. Smith inserted the laparoscope, and Eve watched as the camera displayed the internal organs on the monitor. She assisted Dr. Smith by retracting tissues and suctioning fluids, her hands moving in sync with his.

Throughout the procedure, Dr. Smith provided guidance, pointing out anatomical landmarks and explaining his techniques. Eve listened intently, soaking up knowledge and experience.

As they worked, Eve felt a sense of exhilaration and focus, her hands moving with precision. The surgery was a success, and the patient's vital signs remained stable.

After the procedure, Dr. Smith patted Eve on the back. "Great job, Dr. Eve. You're a natural."

Eve walked out of the operating room, feeling a sense of accomplishment after assisting Dr. Smith. Tom approached her with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Eve! Just assisted Dr. Smith on that laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Nice work!"

Eve smiled, feeling a sense of pride. "Thanks, Tom. It was a great learning experience."

Tom nodded. "You're really getting into the swing of things here. Speaking of which, Dr. Smith mentioned you're up for a surgery next week. You're going to be working with him again!"

Eve's eyes widened slightly. "Really? What's the procedure?"

Tom leaned in. "It's a complex case – a tumor resection. Dr. Smith thinks you're ready for the challenge."

Eve's expression turned focused. "I'm ready to learn and take on new challenges."
