"Yes, and no. I have a good plan that requires your participation," Fury replied, reaching for his long coat again, taking out a folder, and handing it over. The large S.H.I.E.L.D. logo was emblazoned there, alongside a striking 'A' logo.
However, Kurohane did not take the folder. Instead, his hand reached into his suit pocket, took out a handcuff key, and unlocked himself. After putting the handcuffs back into the pocket at his waist, he finally took the folder from Fury's hand.
Fury: (Eyebrows raised, slightly surprised)
Wearing these handcuffs was actually unnecessary! Fury thought.
"The Avengers Initiative. This plan was initiated by the Strategic Scientific Reserve, the predecessor of S.H.I.E.L.D. at the time, after the first superhero appeared in the world," Fury began his explanation. "However, in 1945, we lost our super soldier and the scientist who created him. So this plan was put on hold until the Skrulls and Captain Marvel appeared. I took the lead in restarting this plan."
"Carol Danvers, I see her name," Kurohane shook the folder in his hand. Besides Captain Marvel, there was only information about himself, Hulk, and Bruce Banner. Even top agents like Hawkeye and Black Widow were not yet included in Fury's plan. Looks like I can gain some leverage from this? Kurohane thought.
"To face the potential interstellar wars to come, we need a 'nuclear deterrent'. And this Avengers team is our new weapon!" Fury continued in a confident tone. "I scoured the world to find super-powered individuals with special abilities through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intelligence network. However, besides that big green guy, only your shooting skills impressed me." Fury looked at Kurohane, who had already folded the folder, a hint of appreciation in his eyes. "The most important thing is that you are serious. As long as you are on this team, you don't have to worry about them doing anything inappropriate, because you will immediately draw your gun. Among the people I know, only you are so impartial. Even Captain America back then might not have reached your level. But I don't think a pistol will be able to handle that big green creature."
Kurohane shook his head slowly, expressing his true thoughts. "If you want to form these Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. can take the lead. You can also provide various support for this special team from behind the scenes. But S.H.I.E.L.D. must be removed from there. If this organization is still controlled by the United States, I will not participate, and you won't even find a second person to participate. What you are forming is not a special team to protect Earth, but a sharp knife in the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D.."
Fury realized how deeply the Skrull incident had impacted Kurohane. Even though he had faced them directly, Kurohane clearly no longer trusted S.H.I.E.L.D.. "But this team needs a leader," Fury retorted.
"That's not you, Nick Fury," Kurohane replied expressionlessly, making Fury feel a little awkward. Seeing the somewhat tense atmosphere, Kurohane finally let out a long sigh. "What are the specific tasks of this team after it's formed?"
"Combat global terrorist activities or resolve Alien invasion incidents," Fury replied happily, seeing Kurohane finally show interest and quickly answering his question. However, Kurohane only uttered a few words, as if pouring a bucket of cold water on the newly ignited flame. "Who defines terrorists? The United States government? Or your S.H.I.E.L.D.? How is Alien invasion defined? Can I kill all Skrulls?"
Fury: (Eyes narrowed suspiciously)
I suspect this kid is deliberately looking for trouble! Isn't he just asking for benefits? Fury thought. "Just tell me your conditions directly, no need to beat around the bush."
"First, the Avengers do not accept orders from any individual or organization and have independent decision-making power," Kurohane stated firmly. "Second, if there are casualties or economic losses in a battle, you will be responsible for handling the aftermath. If you cannot handle it, I will not join your plan."
Based on his experience watching movies in his previous life, Kurohane knew that the Avengers would eventually become a violent organization under the United Nations. However, the United Nations was more likely to control and utilize the Avengers, regardless of alien threats or anything else. In the final battle of Avengers 4, he didn't see a single plane or artillery fire! It wasn't even as impressive as the Battle of New York, where at least a nuclear bomb was dropped! After the Avengers were formed, the government seemed to do nothing but cause trouble for the team! So, Kurohane believed that rather than letting the entire Avengers be commanded by others, held accountable by various countries, or morally brainwashed by citizens who lacked information, it would be better to operate as an underground organization, purely for the public good! In other words, follow the path of DC's Justice League and not deal with government agencies! This could also be considered in line with my system's name, right? Kurohane thought.
However, Fury immediately found a loophole in Kurohane's words. "But in that case, wouldn't the entire Avengers become a ruthless illegal organization?"
"So the problem isn't with me, but with your own plan. When you find a solution, come see me again. Anyway, you know where I live," Kurohane replied, still refusing Fury's invitation. He learned from the Japanese emperor's method of refusing three times. As long as he refused firmly, if Fury still wanted to form the Avengers, he would definitely consider his requests. Moreover, his true identity was a Hydra sleeper agent, and the most important thing for a sleeper agent was not to reveal his true thoughts. How could Fury imagine that the person who repeatedly tried to withdraw from S.H.I.E.L.D. and refused to cooperate with him as Director was actually an undercover agent?!
Kurohane's words made Fury think hard. Kurohane, who was initially his subordinate, saw everything more accurately and far-sightedly than he did. After the Avengers were formed, they would most likely become what Kurohane said, a deadly sharp knife. And the people holding that knife would be the politicians and capitalists Kurohane hated the most!
Losing everything, losing everything, losing everything~~~~ The classic phone ringtone sounded, and Fury took out his Nokia phone. Coulson's calm voice came from the other end of the line, as if he were in a car.
"Chief, Obadiah just stormed Tony's villa and stole Tony Stark's Arc Reactor. I'm on my way to Stark Industries with four people. We will make sure to apprehend him."
"Five agents won't be able to handle Obadiah!" Fury exclaimed in panic.
Kurohane, who had been looking for equipment in the room, suddenly realized that there wasn't a single bullet in this damned place! "What are you doing just standing there?! Quickly find me a weapon!" Kurohane ordered urgently.
