Chapter 3 - Small box

The warm rays of sunlight shined on Jake's face, the warm air hugged his skin and the smell of leaves reached his nose. His eyes fluttered open slowly. He looked around, seeing the vast field of grass that led down the hill he was sitting on, leaning against a tree that stood right at the edge of a forest.

"Urghh," he groaned and stretched like he had just woken up from a very good nap.

"So it wasn't a dream, I really died and got transported to a new world," he said, his tone filled with a sense of happiness and sadness within.

"The card, she gave me a card." He recalled the card and immediately started patting his body down. He found the card inside of his tracksuit pocket. He pulled it out and looked at the card.

"She said it was a legendary card, but how do I use it? Do I say a spell or something?" he wondered, but suddenly, the card flew from his hands and turned into a light, shooting into his forehead faster than he could react.

His gasp reached for his forehead immediately. He touched it all over, worried that the card stabbed his head, but there was no injury, and there was no card.

"Where did it go?"

[Synchronization with soul completed]

[Welcome Necromancer]

[You have received a special deposit of (1,000,000) soul shards]

A screen suddenly popped up in front of him, and he was shocked, surprised and scared—a mixture of different emotions flooded his mind as he saw this.

But he recalled what the goddess had told him; she said that it was like the isekais that he knew about from his world.

"Is this some sort of system?" he asked.

[Well duh, dumbass, I'm the system tied to the Necromancer card you took.]

A mocking voice rang in his head, and what it said showed on the screen as well. Jake was instantly scared again.

"How the hell are you talking to me, and who are you?" he asked, looking around for someone.

[Ughhh, are you dumb? I already regret being your system.]

[Look, this is simple. I'm inside you as the system tied to the card you picked and I'll assist you however I can.]

"I see," Jake replied. He tried to touch the screen slowly, but his finger went right through.

[The hell are you doing? Are you really dumb?]

"Hey, I was just trying to see if I can touch it," Jake said.

[And that was a stupid idea. It's something only you can see, and it's not physical.]

"Thank you for explaining. You can try to be less aggressive though," Jake said.

[Shut up. You can tell me that after you wait for eons to be assigned to a user and when they finally assign you, it's to some brat that doesn't know the power in his hands.]

"Hey, I'm not a brat, and also, can you tell me about your power?"

[Nope, I can't tell you.]

"Why not? Do I need to meet a certain requirement or something?"

[I don't know, that's the thing. It's like I've forgotten all that. All I know are some basic things.]

"Huh? What sort of dumb excuse is that?" Jake asked.

[Screw you. I said I don't know, so I don't know.]

'How the hell did I end up with this foul-mouthed system? Is this the legendary power? It can't be, right?'

[But on a more serious note, what I know is not much. I have no idea if I'll be able to know more going forward.

Also, speaking to you like this expends energy, and so I'll probably take a rest after this and the normal system setup will take control.]

"You need rest? Aren't you like technology?" Jake asked.

[Well that's a dumb and good question all in one. The answer is, I was made that way, and like many other things, I have no idea why.]

"Ughhh, your answers keep getting crappier, but that aside, what do I do now?" Jake asked.

[Use your soul shards. Summon your first undead. It's simple like that. Soul shards are needed to access the Abyss and pull an undead. There are many ways to get soul shards, but the best way is killing.]

Jake's eyes widened when he heard killing. He looked at the screen, "You mean taking a life?" he asked.

[Is there another meaning for killing? Sheesh, stop being a baby about it. The world she sent you is anything but peaceful. Monsters and beasts roam, and that's not only for creatures. Humans who act like monsters roam as well.]

"I understand. Still, I don't want to take a human life unless it's needed."

[Cry me a river. I'm going to sleep. If you want to summon your first undead, try heading into this forest for coverage and simply think about summoning and the right interface will show.]

"Oh, thank you," Jake replied, but there was no answer.

"I guess he has gone to sleep, and I'm now alone," Jake said with a forced smile. He got up and turned to look at the forest. It looked like a normal forest, but now that he knew about the beasts and monsters, he wasn't too sure about entering.

"Sigh, let's do this." He decided to push ahead and then walked into the forest. Though the trees were thick, the rays of the sun managed to get past some gaps and provide adequate illumination.

He walked for five minutes and found a clearing that he felt would be good.

"Okay, here works."

He thought about summoning when the system came on, with an interface showing him his soul shards as well and several undead that he could summon.

But there was also something he spotted at the corner of the screen, a small box with an X on it. Immediately, attention was pulled there.

[Wait, what are you doing?] The system that had been silently watching saw what he was looking at and immediately panicked.

He knew that that box was not supposed to be there. He knew that it was trouble. But he was too late—Jake opened the box, and immediately everything changed.
