Chapter 2 - Legendary Necromancer

Jake paused after hearing that, his eyes widened as the realization of what she said unraveled in his mind. All the pain he had been through flashed before his eyes, the memories flooded his brain. He recalled everything that had happened all through his life and how they all made him curse life itself.

Only to now realize that all that was a mistake? That every pain he had gone through was someone's error, and that person was standing right in front of him.

A tear dripped down the side of his eye. He closed his eyes, tilted his head and took a deep breath. The goddess watched this in confusion. She had believed that his first reaction would be anger and rage, but he wasn't doing any of that right now.

"It's funny," he said, and then looked down at her. Seeing her confused look, he explained.

"I would have been filled with rage if I found out this when I was alive, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to matter to me now.

I'm hearing it and I hate it, but I can't seem to get angry, just sad. Sad that I lived my life seeing myself as a curse that also cursed others, only to find out too late that I wasn't really a curse," he said. He watched her expression and saw her countenance drop more as he spoke.

"Don't be sad, it wasn't your fault, it was an error I guess. And I'm sure there was no way to reverse it after you did it.

And even if it was your fault, what's the point of crying over spilled milk? After all, you are a goddess, I'm a dead soul, what am I going to do, punch you?" he said with a soft chuckle.

"So where do I go after here? Hell? Heaven? Or are those actually not real and just a human concept?" he asked.

"Oh, Hell and Heaven is real for every world. Each world has theirs, some have many due to diversified religions.

But that's beside the point, you are going to none of that," she said.

"Huh? So am I going to limbo or something?" he asked.

"No, not that. I made a mistake in the occasion of your life, and so I want to fix it because I am Fate and Balance.

I can't stand to watch an innocent soul have no peace or happiness their entire life because of my mistake, and so, I'll grant you a second chance.

But not in your home world—a different world, where you can be a new person and see new things. I believe in your home world, there is something known as transmigration where people go to new fantasy worlds.

Well, that will be the case for you. I'll be sending you to a new world, Terra, where you will get to live that sort of life," she said with a soft smile on her face.

"Wait, seriously? You can do that?" His eyes suddenly lit up as she finished saying that. She saw the excitement in his eyes and her smile widened.

"Well yeah, of course I can. So if you are happy with that, I'll take you to that world right away, and you can keep all your memories as well," she said.

"Then there's nothing to think about. What you are saying is that there is a magical world where you want to send me to, and this time I get to choose my fate and not be cursed in it.

I don't care if the world is extremely dangerous, as long as I can be master of my own fate, then I'm happy to go there," Jake said.

"I see, then that settles it. But before you go, I want to give you the first opportunity to be the master of your fate," she said and took a step back. She snapped her fingers and a row of five golden cards appeared before her, floating in front of her.

"Normally, for something like this, I wouldn't allow you to know the contents and also have you pick randomly, but I think you deserve to make your own choice.

Each one of these cards holds legendary abilities that will help you through your journey. Make your pick and you will gain that specific ability."

She flipped the cards around for him to see. He looked up and read the contents of the cards.

[Legendary Sword Master]

[Legendary Blacksmith]

[Legendary Arcane Master]

[Legendary Necromancer]

[Legendary Alchemist]

The options were lined up for him, but for some reason, only the Necromancer called out to him, and without wasting a single moment, he grabbed the card.

The goddess had a flash of shock on her face before she wiped it away and returned to her emotionless face.

"Is that the one you want?" she asked. He nodded in response. She took a deep breath as if she was trying to stop herself from saying something.

"You have made your choice, and now you'll begin your journey in a new world. I hope that this one is much better than the last one, and you'll have Fate's support, which is my support, as best as possible," she said and then tapped his forehead.

Everything immediately went dark.
