Superpowers. We all wanted at least one of those, it could be anything, like controlling fire or water, or having telekinesis, or even teleportation. And for decades, centuries even, these kinds of things have only existed as fiction, like in comics, tv shows, or ones own imagination. That is until one day everything changed.
We see a hospital at midnight where only one window is lit with a bright light. And in that room was a newborn baby that was LITERALLY glowing as a doctor is shown freaking out by the sight.
It all started when a baby that was just born in China started to LITERALLY glow, but it didn't stop there, reports of people beginning to demonstrate ACTUAL superhuman abilities begin going all over the globe.
The scene changes to the planet where a man was telepathically levitating a book, a girl with her right are covered in ice, and a man whos head morphed into a flaming wolf head.
At first nobody knew how or why this was happening, and that caused a lot of panic for society, it didn't help when some of these new "Meta-Humans" started misusing their new powers for selfish reasons, and some of them where criminals. But that started a new era, the ere of Heroes. Soon these "Meta Abilities" gained a new name: "Quirks", and now roughly 80% of the global population have these Quirks, with less then 20% of the population not having any powers, these people being called "Quirkless". Now everyday, life is like a comic book with these Heroes and villains, and there are special high schools all over the world where students can train to become Heroes. My name is Nick Kayama, and this is the story about how I became a Hero. An Autistic Hero!
Current day.
Doctor: "Sorry kid, it may not happen for a while."
A 4 year old Nick Lunarfang and his mother Lila Lunarfang, who is holding a 1 year old baby Gray Lunarfang, are seen sitting in a hospital room with a doctor.
Lila Lunarfang (formerly Kayama). Her Quirk: Flora Touch. An Emitter-Type Quirk. She is able to create and control plants. However, it is weak to fire Quirks, and she can only use her Quirk if there is natural soil and nature around her, also she can't use her Quirk from far-range and must be able to physically touch either the plant(s) or the ground. And it doesn't work on artificial plants and only natural ones.
Lila: "What do you mean Doctor?"
Doctor: "You see ma'am, your son does have a Quirk, but it seems like he might not be able to use it for sometime. Also, I thought you should know your son here is diagnosed to have autism."
Nick: (Confused, thought) '"Autism"?'
Lila: "Really? Nick has autism?"
Doctor: "Yes ma'am, he does. So I think it might not be a good idea for him to become a Hero."
Nick was shocked and saddened by the fact he might not becoming a Hero.
Lila: "What do you mean?"
Doctor: "You see, sense your son has autism, it might be too dangerous for him to become a Hero."
Lila: "And my son's Quirk? He hasn't shown any signs of having one for a year now."
Doctor: "Ah, yes, well, you see your son may not be able to use his Quirk for a while, he does have one, it's just not active right now. My guess is, that your son might be a "Late Bloomer", so his power might develop some later time in his life."
Lila: "Well, he may have is father's family's Quirk, every member of the Lunarfang bloodline has the same Quirk."
Doctor: "Do you mind explaining your husband's Quirk to me?"
Lila: "Well you see, the Lunarfang family has a Quirk called Werewolf, it has been in the family for generations sense members of the family bloodline can't inherit the Quirk of the other parent nor gain a fusion of both parents' Quirks. So maybe that's why Nick can't use his Quirk right now? Sense the Werewolf Quirk only works during the night of a full moon?"
Doctor: "Interesting, so the Quirk only works during a the night of a full moon. Yes that might be the reason why your son can't use his Quirk. Of course we will be giving your son some medication for his autism."
Lila: (Shacks the doctors hand)"Thank you Doctor."
Nick: (offers to shack hands with the doctor) "Thank you."
Doctor: (sees this and gives the 4 year old boy a warm smile and shacks his hand) "You are both welcome."
After shacking hands with the doctor Nick suddenly feels weird, with his brain telling him that his life span has doubled and he can now age at a slower rate, but he lost some physical mobility.
Nick: (Thought) 'why is my brain telling me this stuff?'
Time Skip
Sometime after seeing the doctor, Nick is playing with his best friends, Izuku Midoriya, or "Deku" (meaning "Defender Izuku") to his friends, Katsuki Bakugo, or "Kacchan" to his friends, and Shoto Todoroki, outside to celebrate, as today is Nick's 5th birthday, as Nick's brain is now telling him some other weird stuff now. meanwhile Lila is inside in the living room with her husband, Derek Lunarfang, who decided to actually show up for his kid's birthday and not be somewhere else, her older sister, Nemuri Kayama, who managed to make time to show up despite her busy work, and her best friends, Izuku's mother Inko Midoriya, Katsuki's mother Mitsuki Bakugo, and Shoto's mother Rei Todoroki, telling them about what happened at the hospital. Their house is a simple two floor house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room that is connected to the kitchen, and a big backyard, with a beautiful garden, and a shed.
Izuku Midoriya. His Quirk: Flame Shake. An Emitter-Type Quirk. He can generate and control fire at will, as well as breath fire. It is a common and widespread fire-based Quirk.
In this story, Izuku has a Quirk, so he is not Quirkless. Also, his nickname "Deku" means "Defender Izuku", instead of "Defenseless Izuku".
Katsuki Bakugo. His Quirk: Explosion. An Emitter-Type Quirk. He can secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from the palms of his hands and ignite it on command, allowing him to create strong explosions, the more Katsuki sweats, the stronger his explosions become, however if Katsuki overuses this power, his forearms will start to ache.
Shoto Todoroki. His Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot. An Emitter-Type Quirk. He can generate and control ice from the right half of his body, and fire from the left half of his body, however, he must keep his body temperature regulated when using either side of his body to avoid either over-heating or getting frostbite. It's both a common fire-based Quirk and a common ice-based Quirk, 2-for-1 power.
Inko Midoriya. Her Quirk: Telekinesis. An Emitter-Type Quirk. She can move stuff with her mind.
Mitsuki Bakugo. Her Quirk: Glycerin. A Mutant-Type Quirk. Gives her the ability to secrete glycerin from her skin. Because of its moisturizing effect, she maintains great skin quality, despite her age.
Rei Todoroki (formerly Himura). Her Quirk: Frost. An Emitter-Type Quirk. She can generate and control ice from her body. However, overusing her Quirk too much or too long can cause her to get frostbite.
Nemuri Kayama AKA the R-Rated Hero: Midnight. a Pro Hero. Her Quirk: Somnambulist. An Emitter-Type Quirk. Allows her to put nearby people to sleep by exuding a sleep-inducing aroma from her body. Her Quirk works better on males than females.
Derek Lunarfang. His Quirk: Werewolf. A Transformation-Type Quirk. He can transform into a Werewolf and gain enhanced strength, speed, agility, durability, sight, smell, hearing, and night vision while he is transformed. However he can only transform during the night of a full moon, also he cannot transform back during this time, and he cannot use his Quirk at any other time, and while transformed, he can give other people the Werewolf Quirk which serves as a secondary Quirk for them via biting or scratching them.
Nemuri: (sitting on one of the couches petting the family's pet cat Sushi)"So Nick might be a "Late Bloomer", and has autism?"
Lila: "According to the doctor, yes."
Derek: "Well, hopefully we can find a cure for it."
Lila: (Slightly annoyed by what she just heard) "Derek, autism is a disability, NOT an illness."
Nemuri: (Equally Annoyed by her Brother-In-Law's words) "Yeah Derek, there is nothing wrong with being autistic, it just means that Nick is different."
Derek: "Well we should find a way to get rid of it or our son will be a failure in life. Plus, we also need to fix his ears."
Lila: (Starting to get more annoyed with her husband's attitude) "Just because our son has a disability doesn't mean he will be a failure in the future."
Nemuri: "Indeed, Nick might become a HUGE success in the future. Also, Nick's prominent ears are cute."
Oh yeah, Nick also has prominent ears, meaning that they stick out, literally, similar to a monkey's ears.
Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei: (Nod in agreement)
Derek: (Not Caring) "Either way, all that matters is that he has my family's Quirk."
Lila: "Except this month's full moon has already passed a while ago, so we will have to wait until next month to see if Nick can transform."
Nemuri: "And besides, Nick may NOT have YOUR Quirk, Derek. He might inherit Lila's Quirk instead."
Inko: "I agree with Lila and Nemuri."
Mitsuki: "Same goes for me."
Rei: "I as well."
Derek: "Don't be stupid, there has NEVER been a member of the Lunarfang family bloodline to NOT possess the Werewolf Quirk, so it's impossible for MY children to have different Quirks other then that."
Lila, Nemuri, Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei all look at Derek with annoyed looks.
LIla, Nemuri, Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei: (annoyed, thought) 'I can't stand this man's attitude!'
Nemuri: "Though to be honest, I am surprised that Nick has autism. But I refuse to believe that it will stop my beloved nephew from becoming an amazing hero in the future!"
Lila: (Smiles at her older sister) "Thanks, Nemu."
Nemuri: (Smiles back at Lila) "Of course, Lili. Plus, if little Nicky does decide to become a Hero, I hope he joins my agency."
Lila: "Yeah, no offense Sis, but I would rather if Nick does NOT join YOUR agency."
Nemuri: (slightly insulted) "And why not?! If he joins my agency, then I get to spend more time with him then I already do because of my work."
Yeah, Nemuri wants to be able to spend time with her family, but has a hard time doing so due to her job as a pro hero. Because of that, and because she wants to help support her sister and two nephews, she actually lives with them.
Lila: (Gives her older sister a "Really?" look) "Does the fact that you are called the "R-Rated Hero" mean anything to you? Plus, you do live here with us."
Nemuri: (Annoyed and pouts at Lila) "But I'm normally at work all-day every day, and you make it sound like I'm going to turn Nick into a pervert or something!"
Lila: "Did you forget about your original hero costume from when we were both students at U.A. High?"
Nemuri: "My old costume wasn't THAT bad!"
Lila: (Gives her older sister the "Really?" look again while slightly annoyed) "It was LITERALLY NOTHING but a pair of protective plates covering your b*****s, a dog collar, your undergarments, a belt, AND an unbuttoned trench coat, with sunglasses."
I am NOT making this stuff up, that was LITERALLY Midnight's original hero costume when she was in high school. Thankfully because of that, there is now an institution of hero costume regulations that limit how revealing a person's hero costume can be.
Nemuri: (Annoyed by her younger sister reminding her about high school) "Still, it's not like I'm going to teach Nick anything bad if he decides to intern at my agency."
Lila: (unconvinced) "Still not going to take any chances, Sis. And I would honestly prefer it if Nick Interns at Ryuko, or Shota's agencies, over yours."
Nemuri then continues to pout at her sister's comment.
Nemuri: (thought) 'We'll see about that, little sister.'
Oh yeah. Both Nemuri and Lila graduated from U.A. High School. But while Nemuri was in the Department of Heroes, Lila was in the Department of General Education, so she is not a Pro Hero. Also, Lila is one year younger then Nemuri. Also, Lila inherited their father's Quirk, while Nemuri inherited their mother's. But their mother's version of Somnambulist was equally affective on both males AND females, unlike Nemuri's version, which is stronger on males then on females.
Nemuri: (still pouting) "Yeah? Well, we'll see if Nick decides he DOES want to intern at my agency or not. Either way, I'm definitely going to recommend Nick as a student for U.A. High."
Lila: "I'm sure Nick will be happy to know you will recommend him to U.A., sis."
Nemuri: (proud smug look) "Of course, only the best for my little sister and my precious nephews."
Lila: "And aren't Ryuko, Rumi, and Shota also recommending Nick? Speaking of which, where are they?"
Nemuri: "Oh, you know, those three are busy with Hero work, I was the only one who managed to get a day off today."
Lila, Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei all look at Nemuri with warm smiles for planning to recommend her first-born nephew to Japan's number one Hero school, as well as three other Pro Heroes who are friends of the family, except Derek, who is just annoyed by his sister-in-law.
Derek: (annoyed, thought) 'Like that brat will even be allowed to attend U.A., he'd obviously get expelled on the first day. Not like he'd even get excepted in the first place if it's the "R-Rated Hero", "Dragoon Hero", "Rabbit Hero", and "Erasure Hero", recommending him, AND the fact he has autism.'
Mitsuki: (looks outside to see Nick, Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto playing on a large sunflower outside) "Hey Lila, when did you make that huge flower for the boys to play on?"
Lila, Nemuri, Inko, and Derek look outside and see the large plant.
Lila: "I didn't. My Quirk only works if I'm able to touch plants, and I can't use it from far-range or if I'm not close to soil, or actual plants."
The adults all then rush outside to find out what was going on.
Katsuki: (playing on the large sunflower) "Mom! Check out what Nick did!"
Mitsuki: "What do you mean Katsuki?"
Izuku: "Nick made this HUGE plant all of a sudden!"
This caught the adults by surprise.
Inko: "Really? Nick did this?"
Shoto: "Indeed. He just touched the ground and this large plant grew out of the ground."
Lila: (surprised) "Son, did you really make this large sunflower?"
Nick: "Yeah, Mom. And I can do other stuff too."
Nick then raises both his hands up and creates fire from his left hand and covers his right hand with ice, while being lifted by the sunflower. This surprised both the other 4 year old boys and the adults.
Lila: (surprised) "How are you doing this Son?"
Nick: (gets off the large plant and make the fire and ice disappear) "I'm not sure Mom. All I did was high five Deku, Kachan, and Shoto, and then my brain was telling me that I could create and control fire and ice at will like Shoto, as well as control plants like you Mom."
Izuku: "It's amazing. It's like Nick can use our Quirks."
Nick then closes his eyes, going into deep thought, and opens them.
Nick: "Maybe I can use your Quirks."
Everyone then looks at Nick in confusion.
Lila: "What do you mean Nick?"
Nick: "I think my Quirk lets me copy the Quirks of others by touching the person whose Quirk I want to copy, and I know everything about the Quirks I copy."
This made everyone amazed about Nick's new found Quirk and what it lets him do, with the only exception being Derek, who was furious about this turn of events.
Derek: (furious, thought) 'My son, a Lunarfang, has a Quirk that ISN'T the Werewolf Quirk??!! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!'
Lila: "That's AMAZING Son!"
Mitsuki: (confused by this news) "But how is this possible? Neither Lila, nor Derek have a Quirk that lets them do that."
Inko: "That's true. Lila's Quirk lets her create and control plants, but Derek's Quirk turns him into a werewolf during the night of a full moon."
Nemuri: "Maybe, Nick has a Variant Quirk instead?"
This made everyone look at the R-Rated Hero.
Rei: (confused) "A Variant Quirk?"
Nemuri: "It's an EXTREMLY rare type of Quirk that is completely different from anything in the users genetic lineage, akin to a mutation. So that would explain why Nick's Quirk lets him copy other Quirks, despite Lila's Quirk being plant summoning and manipulation, and Derek's being transforming into a Werewolf during a full moon."
Izuku: (amazed) "That's so cool Nick! I'm so jealous about your Quirk, mine is only a common and widespread one."
Shoto: "Indeed. About Nick's Quirk being impressive, I mean."
Katsuki: "Yeah! Hey, did you copy my Quirk?"
Nick: "I think so, Kacchan."
Nick then raises his hands, away from everyone else, and creates an explosion from his hands. This amazed everyone, except Derek who is now even more furious about his first born son being the first member of the Lunarfang bloodline to possess a Quirk that isn't the Werewolf Quirk.
Derek: (furious, thought) 'This is not right! This child is a disgrace to the Lunarfang name!'
Everyone else then gather around Nick admiring his new Quirk. Nemuri then says that Nick will make an amazing hero with his Quirk, much Nick's happiness. Nick then copies Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei's Quirks and shows his skill in using his new powers. however this only made Derek even more furious, with him then leaving the house in anger. Later it turned night and after dinner, which was a BBQ of burgers and hot dogs, birthday cake, and Nick opening his presents, Izuku, Katsuki, Shoto, Inko, Mitsuki, and Rei all left for home, Nick and baby Gray then went to bed. Later Derek came back to see not so happy Lila and Nemuri waiting for him in the living room.
Lila: (upset with her husband) "And where did you go off to?"
Derek: (annoyed) "Like I need to explain anything to you."
Nemuri: (upset with her brother-in-law) "It does if it's you leaving on your own son's birthday."
Derek: "That child is NOT my son."
Lila: "Why would you say such a thing?!"
Nemuri: "Yeah Derek. Nick is 100% your child!"
Derek: (angry) "You stay out of this, you stupid s***!"
Lila: (angry) "Don't you dare call my sister a s***!"
Derek: "Oh please. Earlier today you were talking about how l*** her old costume was! You can't deny that all your sister thinks about and wants is for guys to try and get piece of her a**! I mean, she LITTERALY has FOUR MALE sidekicks working at her agency!"
Nemuri: (insulted) "How dare you!"
Lila: "That is not an excuse to insult my sister!"
Nemuri: "And besides my current suit isn't revealing like my old one was due to the Institution of Hero Costume Regulations!"
Derek: "Aren't you the one responsible for those regulations being made in the first place?!"
Nemuri: "Well at least I'm not a rude jerk who is never there for their family!"
Derek: "I've had it with you, you f***ing b****!"
Lila: "What is wrong with you Derek?!"
Derek: "What's wrong with me?! More like what's wrong your child?!"
Lila: "You leave Nick out of this!"
Derek: "Why?! He's nothing but a disgrace to the Lunarfang name! He doesn't have the Werewolf Quirk, and he's some autistic retard! He's nothing but a broken child!"
Lila: "How dare you! Nick is NOT a retard, and he's NOT "broken"! And why do you care about your family name?! you don't care about your family! All you do is barely be home, you barely work, and are always out with your friends drinking at bars!"
Derek: (points at Nemuri) "Well, neither is she!"
Nemuri: "I am a Pro Hero, I'll have you know, and that is a job that keeps me busy, but at least I try to be home to spend time with my loving family!"
Derek: "You know what?! I'm done! I have had it with the both of you! I'm leaving!"
Lila: "Yeah?! Well good riddance!"
Derek: "Fine!!"
Derek then stomps to the door at slams it shut hard, making a loud bang that woke Gray up, with the one-year old baby now crying loudly, Nick then came into the living room.
Nick: "Mom? Aunt Nemuri?"
The two sisters then notice Nick and give him sad smiles, knowing that he must have heard everything.
Nick: "Is Dad really gone for good?"
Lila: (hugs her first born son) "Yes dear, that horrible man is gone for good."
Lila then stands up and leaves to check on a still crying Gray, with Nick following behind her.
