Suddenly, Meng Hongchen turned and hugged Huo Yuhao.
Feeling the warmth of her body, the curves beneath her thin nightgown, and her warm breath brushing against his ear, Huo Yuhao felt like he was frozen—and melting at the same time.
"Thank you, Yuhao. A hundred-thousand-year soul bone... something that rare, and you gave it to me. You don't even have a right leg bone yourself."
Hearing her whisper so softly beside him, Huo Yuhao froze for a moment, then smiled and wrapped his arms around her in return.
"It's nothing. We're family. Forget a hundred-thousand-year soul bone—if you want a million-year one, I'll find it for you."
Meng Hongchen let out a laugh.
"Haha... a million-year soul bone? Yuhao, you really know how to talk big. Even if one existed, you'd better be the one to absorb it. I'm not lucky enough for that."
Despite teasing him, she couldn't help the warmth blooming in her chest. Throughout Douluo Continent's history, countless soul masters—friends, lovers, even family—had turned against each other for soul bones. There were even records of a powerful married couple of Title Douluos killing one another over the ownership of a single hundred-thousand-year soul bone.
That was why she knew just how meaningful it was that Huo Yuhao had given her such a precious soul bone—one that would've been a great fit for him, too.
What about that talk of a million-year soul bone? It sounded crazy, but Huo Yuhao wasn't joking. The Deep Sea Demon Whale King still existed deep beneath the ocean—a soul beast that had survived for a million years. She was the wife of the Deep Sea Demon Whale King whom Tang San had slain ten thousand years ago. Now, in her corrupted form, she had become the Empress of the Holy Spirit Sect.
Since Huo Yuhao already knew of her existence, he wasn't about to let that opportunity slip away. Whether it meant killing her, or turning her into his soul spirit and using her hatred for Tang San to unite her with his own goals, it was a worthwhile plan—assuming he could survive long enough to find her.
There was also a place where countless soul bones were buried—Dragon Valley.
Dragon Valley existed on another continent outside Douluo. Within it was a small world filled with the souls and bones of dragons who had fallen during the God Realm's ancient purge of the dragon race. It was a treasure trove beyond imagination.
And yet, ten thousand years later, the supposed child of destiny, Tang Wulin, entered Dragon Valley and didn't take a single bone. He just buried dragon bones for three straight years.
'What a paragon of virtue. Pity I have nothing to do with the dragon clan,' Huo Yuhao sneered inwardly.
Still, one day, he planned to rob that valley clean. The value of those dragon bones went without saying, and the dragon souls had many uses. There was even a remnant of the Dragon God's soul inside. He'd have to wait until his strength grew further before making that trip.
But Dragon Valley had a frustrating limitation—anyone stronger than a Soul King would cause the dimension to collapse. If he could further grasp the power of Creation, however, he might have a way around that.
Putting aside those far-off plans, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen continued to hold each other tightly, quietly enjoying each other's presence and warmth. After a while, they reluctantly let go.
"By the way, Yuhao, did you need something from me?"
Huo Yuhao smiled mysteriously.
"I've got something interesting to show you. But first, put on some proper clothes."
Meng Hongchen tilted her head curiously, then glanced down at her own revealing state. Blushing, she shot Huo Yuhao a glare as he laughed. But instead of kicking him out, she climbed onto the bed behind him and began changing right there.
"No peeking."
Her voice came from behind, and Huo Yuhao, hearing the rustling, suddenly felt like he'd just been counterattacked.
A few minutes later, Meng Hongchen finished changing. She was a little disappointed to find that Huo Yuhao hadn't moved at all—not even to sneak a peek.
'Did he secretly use his spiritual detection? Hehe…'
She giggled to herself, feeling a strange mix of excitement and shyness.
But did Huo Yuhao peek? No.
Why?
Because our dear Yuhao had an excellent memory. During one of their earlier sessions when he was purging the cold poison from her body, he had already memorized what she looked like under those clothes. That was his little secret. And every time he saw her, he couldn't help but recall it.
"Okay, you can turn around now."
Huo Yuhao turned back and saw Meng Hongchen wearing a JK school uniform—the very outfit he'd had custom-made and gifted to her.
"You look amazing."
The words slipped out on their own. Meng Hongchen smiled smugly.
"Weren't you going to show this young lady something? Let's go already~"
"Hehe. You're going to be stunned."
Naturally, Huo Yuhao took her hand and led her downstairs.
Meng Hongchen held his hand as she followed. When they reached the living room, she noticed a figure with dark grey hair sitting on the couch, his back to them.
'Who's that?'
Even the little dog-rabbit hybrid named "Strange Name"—which they were raising at home—was quietly growling at the mysterious figure.
"Quiet, Little Dog Rabbit."
At his command, the little creature stopped baring its teeth and ran over to rub against Huo Yuhao's leg before leaping into Meng Hongchen's arms.
She gently petted the fuzzy creature while staring suspiciously at the figure on the couch.
Suddenly, the figure stood and turned around. He wore a gloomy smile and said in a raspy voice,
"Hello, Meng Hongchen."
His eerie, sinister appearance startled her.
"Hey, who are you?"
"Hehe. Senior Meng, I'm your dearest Huo Yuhao."
That chilling grin deepened, and Meng Hongchen felt goosebumps rise all over her skin. She tightened her grip on Huo Yuhao's hand and whispered,
"Yuhao… what is this?"
Huo Yuhao noticed her trembling slightly. Tang Si's body still held the terrifying aura of the Death Sovereign—a high-tier undead being. That oppressive presence was something ordinary people instinctively feared.
Since it was scaring her, he decided not to keep the joke going.
"Meng Hongchen, let me explain."
He told her everything about Tang Si, from his origin to the purpose of this second body. Meng Hongchen stared blankly, glancing between Tang Si and Huo Yuhao.
"These two bodies… you control both of them?"
Huo Yuhao nodded with a smile. Tang Si nodded too, echoing the motion.
Covering her mouth in disbelief, she muttered,
"This is incredible."
She walked up and poked Tang Si's face. Then, wrinkling her nose, she stepped back beside Huo Yuhao.
"Ugh, he's all bones. Looks way too much like an evil soul master. I still like the real you better."
Then she playfully pinched his cheek and grinned.
"Who would've guessed someone as upright as you had evil soul master powers too?"
Huo Yuhao looked at her in surprise.
"Aren't you afraid I might really be an evil soul master?"
Meng Hongchen shook her head, gently cupping his face with both hands.
"If it were anyone else, I might wonder if they were secretly hiding their true nature. But I will always trust you, Yuhao. You're not like that."
Her gaze was unwavering, and it moved Huo Yuhao deeply.
Then her eyes grew misty.
"Yuhao… are you really going to infiltrate the Holy Spirit Sect? That den of evil soul masters?"
Huo Yuhao sighed.
He had thought long and hard before choosing to share this with Meng Hongchen. He didn't want to be the type of person who kept everything important to himself, thinking it would spare others worry.
'That kind of person just doesn't trust the people around them. What if something happened to me, and no one even knew what I was doing?'
"Don't worry, Meng Hongchen. Only my second body, Tang Si, is going. I have to do this. The Holy Spirit Sect's base is in the Demonic Forest of the Sun Moon Empire, and their influence is spread throughout the empire already. If I don't keep a close watch on them, I'm afraid people like you, Brother Xiao, and our teacher could get hurt."
"But… you said that if your second body dies, your soul will be harmed too."
Huo Yuhao patted her head and pulled her into his arms.
"It'll be fine. I'm confident nothing will go wrong. And even if something does, the damage can be healed over time."
Meng Hongchen didn't argue. Nestling into his embrace, she nodded firmly.
"Yuhao, I believe in you."
Then, without warning, she slipped out of his arms, leaned in, and planted a firm kiss on his cheek.
With a bright smile, she said,
"Having you by my side… is the best feeling in the world."
