Still, there is a part of me that wonders if there are parts of her that she has managed to keep hidden away even from me. There is so much to this girl that it is hard to tell what is going through her mind at times.
"Well, now don't I feel special! Way to make a man feel small and insignificant. Talk about hurting someone's ego." Max stated sarcastically.
Bethany glared at him, not appreciating the sarcasm. She really was never good at handling someone showing her any form of disrespect. You could all but hear the venom in her voice when she spoke. "Well if your feelings are hurt, you can leave and I will call my next client. It doesn't matter to me either way. All I am concerned about is getting my payment. I will not cater to a grown ass man's ego, because I do not have the time. Or honestly, I just don't give a shit."
"You are a cold hearted little one, aren't you? I really do envy the man that will one day try to tame you, he will have his work cut out for him. You are about as wild as they come. If I wasn't a married man I would have a good go at you!" Max stated a little impressed.
Glancing over at Bethany I could see that she was seething. She did not like Max's assessment of her, nor did she care too much for his blatant advance towards her. Knowing her the way I do, I could tell she was seeing red and if I did not intervene now we may end up losing our very first customer. So before she was able to say anything I stepped in and dismissed her to go enjoy her evening.
"That's enough Bethany, you no longer need a sweetheart. You can go meet up with Darla now. Have a great evening, and be safe. All of you." I voiced out.
Bethany looked like she was going to put up a fight. Judging by her demeanor and body language, she was seconds from throwing a punch. Wanting to make sure that I understood I was serious about her leaving, I took a small step towards her, showing her that I was not willing to deal with her attitude right now and taking the chance of running Max off.
She understood my intent and I watched as Bethany stepped back and walked back up towards the house.
I know she does not like being dismissed that way, but I didn't need her to run off Max. Like she said he is our guinea pig after all. We needed him to test out all of the enchantments and make sure that they really are working the way that we intended them too. If everything works out with Max, then we can start pulling in larger customers with bigger pockets.
I listened to make sure that Bethany was gone. Once I was sure she was gone I turned my attention back towards the man in front of me.
I took in Max's appearance.
He was dressed casual, in black jeans and a button down shirt. He tried to stand there in front of me looking confidently, but I could smell the nervousness seeping out of his pores.
He was nervous.
I wasn't sure if he was nervous about being in front of me alone and having my full intimidating attention directly on him.
At the cigar club, he at least had a buffer with all of the other guys around and never had my full attention directed at him at once.
Or if his nervousness was about what was fixing to happen this evening.
His nervousness had a bitter almost acrid smell to it.
But even through that, I could still smell his excitement.
His excitement was overpowering. I could almost taste it. This man in front of me was about to explode with excitement over what was about to happen.
Getting straight to business. I never was really someone that wanted to skirt around a topic, I would much rather get to the point and get it over with.
I wanted to make sure that Max understood everything that was in the contract that he signed earlier in the week. "Max, I assume you thoroughly read and understand the terms of agreement that you signed." I asked him.
Max took a second, I'm hoping to think back on everything that he read. "I read and understand the agreement" he stated.
"Ok, good." I stated flatly.
Max turned towards the building, his anticipation stacking the longer that he was out here with me.
"What is with the contract anyways. There are so many rules that needed to be followed, I don't even think the other club had this many rules. Bethany is always so professional, isn't she? It was very well thought out and detailed."
"Well, from what I hear, you were not able to get into the other club, so you should not be too concerned with our rules. The contract is not only to protect our assets, but also to protect your identity as well. I can't have one or any of my girls hurt or killed because some jackass got a little too rough, or wasn't careful enough. And I am sure you would hate for that precious little wife of yours finding out about your extracurricular activities." I stated bluntly.
He thought about what I had to say for a little while.
As he was thinking he ventured a little closer to the building, taking in the place the best that he could. "I guess that makes sense. I don't disagree with all the rules, I just think that there are quite a few. So how is this going to work, what do you need from me besides the money?"
"The money, that's all that's left. I do, however, want to remind you of the rules. These are important and if you do not agree with all of them, then the deal is off. So, whether you want to hear them or not, I am going to tell you again, and I will need a verbal confirmation that you understand and agree with them."
