Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Chapter 39

"Okay." General Manager Gu, who wasn't fond of sweets, bit his aching teeth.

After eating her mother's lovingly made dumplings and walking upstairs under her parents' caring gazes, Gu Xi stood in front of the familiar white door, feeling a bit timid.

Ten years had passed. She wished time could rewind — that her father never had his accident, her mother never fell ill, and that she was still the carefree little princess. But every time she woke up in the middle of the night, she silently counted the scars in her heart, telling herself to hold on, to persist, and to endure again. She would never allow herself to die before her parents' revenge was fulfilled.

She had endured for ten years, her little hopes slowly turning numb. But just when she was desperate, time turned back, and she returned to her parents and her beloved home.

With trembling hands, she pushed the door open. Everything was just as before — as if those ten years of hardship were nothing but a nightmare.

Now, she had finally awakened from that dream.

"Xixi, why are you standing at the door?" Wei Xiangqin worriedly followed her upstairs.

"Nothing," Gu Xi smiled sweetly. "Mom, why did you come up here?"

"I was afraid you'd cry again!" Wei Xiangqin pulled her daughter inside. The two sat on the bed, chatting intimately. "Xixi, are you hiding something from Mom?"

"No." Gu Xi leaned on her mother's shoulder and whispered, "I'm just a little worried about Dad's company."

"Is that all?" Wei Xiangqin hesitated, then asked, "Are you sure it's nothing else? Like feelings… or something?"

"Mom, what are you talking about? I'm still young and don't think about those things."

"You're a grown-up girl now. Feelings are nothing to be ashamed of." Wei Xiangqin considered herself an open-minded mother. It would be strange if her beautiful daughter didn't have boys pursuing her. "But you have to know your limits. It's fine to talk about feelings, and holding hands is harmless, but you can't just throw yourself at someone and give away everything."

"Mom!" Gu Xi blushed. Her mother had never talked to her like this before. Besides, after enduring the unbearable past in her previous life, she didn't want any contact with boys, let alone fall in love.

"Oh, Mom won't say any more," Wei Xiangqin tactfully changed the subject when she saw her daughter's flustered look. "Just remember to protect yourself, okay?"

Gu Xi pretended to be embarrassed and pushed her mother out of the room. After her mother's interruption, most of her sadness had faded away. She turned around and threw herself onto the big bed, rolling around with a smile.

Finally back. It felt so good.
