"How... how could this be?" Jia Lingyi muttered, her face pale.
She was clearly dead, so why was this report saying that she had only suffered severe burns and was currently in the hospital?
And why did it say Yan Hua rushed into the house to save her, but got seriously injured and had passed away in the hospital?!
That bitch colluded with Xu Shengyu to end her life!
What was going on?
Sun Miao was worried when she saw the frightening look on Jia Lingyi's face, and she sighed when she saw the news she was looking at.
"Ah, this? It's really unfortunate that this happened to Xia Mengqi. I really liked her dramas. But, thankfully, her best friend saved her. I have never liked Yan Hua. She was always leeching off Xia Mengqi's popularity, but she was the one who saved her in the end! If my best friend died while saving me..." Sun Miao paused and looked at Jia Lingyi's pale face.
She shivered. "I don't think I could ever recover from it!"
Jia Lingyi started shaking as she read the different headlines.
"Xia Mengqi's million dollar house burned down."
"Actress Yan Hua passes away after saving the life of her best friend Xia Mengqi! The story of the silent hero!"
"Xia Mengqi is involved in a fire. Is she disfigured forever?"
"Xia Mengqi's accident, is this a result of the hidden fights in the entertainment industry?"
The headlines and comments were filled with people speculating what had really happened to her. But none of them came close to the truth.
Jia Lingyi finally found an article where Xu Shengyu had given a statement about the incident. He had told everyone that the fire was an accident and that Xia Mengqi was currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
He spoke passionately about Yan Hua saving Xia Mengqi's life and how he would forever be grateful.
The phone fell from her hand as she read this, and her eyes went cold.
What was going on?
Xu Shengyu, Yan Hua...what were they planning?
Sun Miao picked up her phone and frowned.
"Ah, this can't break! My mom is going to be so mad. She just got it for me!" Sun Miao complained.
"I'll get you a new one." Jia Lingyi said absently, her voice cold.
"Lingyi...what are you saying?"
Jia Lingyi snapped out of her thoughts, and her heart sank to her chest when she saw the sad look on Sun Miao's face.
For a second, she had forgotten that she was Jia Lingyi, and her personality as Xia Mengqi had slipped out.
No one would have complained even if she broke a hundred phones back then.
Jia Lingyi cleared her throat, "I'm....I'm sorry .. I'm just tired ...from everything that has happened," Jia Lingyi struggled to look for an excuse.
Sun Miao's face lit up in a smile, and she shook her head.
"No, it's no big deal. I understand that you can't be the same after everything you've suffered through. Have you... have you thought about what I said, though?" Sun Miao's expression turned solemn when she asked this.
"Miaomiao...." Jia Lingyi called out tiredly.
"These people...are too mean to you! Why do you need to keep working for them, all they do is take advantage of you?! You should leave the company, just leave the entertainment circle! I can talk to your mom, and then maybe she will be willing to let you go back to school." Sun Miao asked hopefully.
Her eyes were shining with youthful innocence, and Jia Lingyi was reminded of how she had been at that age.
When she had been stupidly in love, and although she saw the signs in Xu Shengyu back then, she believed their love was strong enough to hold up the skies. But as she grew older, she started to see things more clearly.
Jia Lingyi smiled and shook her head.
"Miaomiao, I don't want to leave. I want to become an actor, a singer!" She said firmly.
She didn't just want to be an idol like the original owner, she wanted to be an actor with substance, taking on roles that reflected her passion.
Sun Miao was taken aback when she heard this.
She had never seen Jia Lingyi this passionate before.
Being an idol was something that her mother pushed her into, and though she was talented Jia Lingyi had just been going through the motions because she didn't have a choice.
"Lingyi... are you sure? You don't have to do it because of your mother. You...."
Jia Lingyi shook her head firmly.
"No, this is what I want to do. Miaomiao, you'll support me, right?" She asked.
She had to stay in the entertainment industry and rise to the top. It's only then she would have the power to find out what Xu Shengyu and Yan Hua were up to.
Once she did, she would put an end to this once and for all! She would get her revenge on them!
Sun Miao nodded her head passionately.
"You know I'll support you no matter what!" She assured her.
…..
In a dark room that was only lit by a candle on a table, two girls sat huddled against each other as they stared at the long haired man.
His hair was pure white, and a long string of prayer beads dangled from his hand.
His eyes were raised to the roof, and he seemed to be taking inspiration from... the heavens?
"Hey, I just want to know if my boyfriend and I are a good match. Does he need to do so much?" The first girl whispered to her friend.
Her friend pinched her, indicating for her to be quiet.
"He's the great fortune teller, Jia. Watch your words!"
The first girl was unconvinced, but she sat through it.
Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to get the opinion of a fortune teller, right?
Finally, the man looked down again, and his lazy gaze fell on the first girl.
Something about this man made her uneasy, but she stared right back.
"Separated by heaven and earth, the mountains and rivers, two wandering souls, destined to never cross paths. Chaos awaits if the will of the heavens is broken!"
The two girls looked at each other and blinked, confused by the words of the fortune teller.
"Wait ...what does that mean?"
Fortune teller Jia smiled, a twinkling look in his eyes.
"You and your boyfriend aren't supposed to have met. By some twist of fate, your paths crossed. However, it's better to break this link before it's too late. Break up with him now, or else you both will suffer in the future!"
"What? Are you even a real fortune teller?! Even if your so called fate is against our relationship, I won't break up with him."
Lili!" Her friend pinched her arm again while glancing at the fortune teller quickly.
