Chapter 8 - "You Can Just Quit, I Will Take Care Of You."

"Lingyi, are you really fine?" Sun Miao, Jia Lingyi's friend, asked her as they walked back into her hospital room together.

Jia Lingyi sat on the bed as she continued to collect her thoughts.

Sun Miao was a good friend to Jia Lingyi, and in fact, she was the only one who had encouraged her when she felt like the entire world had abandoned her.

Jia Lingyi nodded her head, absentmindedly. There were a lot of things going on in her mind now that she had finally accepted that she was Jia Lingyi.

"Lingyi, it's fine if you don't want to be a celebrity anymore. I don't think you need to do this! And that Yin Roulan, always pretending to be a saint while picking on you! Also, those dumb fans. They are the ones in the wrong, not you! Have you thought about it? Maybe...you should leave the entertainment industry?"

Sun Miao looked at Jia Lingyi hopefully, Jia Lingyi could see the sinecare care in her eyes.

She was the only good friend the original Jia Lingyi had, and she could not help but feel sad.

This kid had no idea that her friend was long gone.

"Was Jia... was I really having a hard time?" Although she had a rough idea of what had happened, Jia Lingyi knew that she could never understand what the original Jia Lingyi had been through.

Being ostracized and cursed by the entire industry....

Sun Miao nodded her head, her eyes misty with unshed tears.

"Yes! But none of it was your fault! The company took advantage of you, and they let you be bullied by the fans! They sacrificed you for the group, and they forgot that without you, they wouldn't have debuted in the first place!" Sun Miao said.

Sun Miao was glad to have her friend back, and she was worried Lingyi would do something to hurt herself again.

"But ...why are you asking me these questions? You....you....don't tell me you forgot what happened?" Sun Miao's eyes were teary, and she looked really sad for Jia Lingyi.

Jia Lingyi smiled, feeling sorry for the kid. She raised her hand to pat her head, and after a few pats, she stopped.

She was no longer Xia Mengqi, and although she saw Sun Miao as a cute younger sister now, she could not treat her as such.

It would just draw suspicions.

Sun Miao felt a bit odd, but she didn't say anything.

Jia Lingyi had just recovered, and she didn't want her to be stimulated again.

"The doctor said my mind is a bit muddled after I tried to end my life. There might be some things I might not remember." Jia Lingyi coughed after she said this.

She didn't want Sun Miao to notice that something was wrong.

Sun Miao nodded her head enthusiastically.

"It's fine! It's good that you don't remember. If there's anything you want to know, you can just ask me about it! I'll tell you everything I know!" She offered happily.

Ji Lingyi's heart felt full, and for the first time since she woke up, she felt like there was someone that truely cared about her.

"Sun Miao... we...are still good friends, right?" She asked, uncertainty in her voice.

Since she had explained that she didn't remember a lot of things, Sun Miao did not feel odd when Jia Lingyi asked her this question.

Instead, she just nodded her head enthusiastically again.

Sun Miao was happy to have her friend back, and nothing else mattered to her.

"Yes! You are my best friend! Are you upset because I haven't come to see you all this time? I wanted to come, but my parents dragged me to visit my grandmother!" Sun Miao explained, afraid that Jia Lingyi would misunderstand her.

Jia Lingyi could see the worry and the sincerity on the other girl's face, and she hurried to comfort her.

"Don't worry about it. I only woke up today, anyway," she said warmly.

Sun Miao pulled Jia Lingyi into a hug again, and Jia Lingyi froze, unsure of what to do.

When was the last time someone hugged her like this?

At some point, Xu Shengyu had become convinced that someone was going to hurt her, so he had made sure that no one else could come close to her.

She smiled and threw her arms around Sun Miao, allowing herself to feel the warmth from her.

"Lingyi, please don't do something like this ever again, okay! No matter what, don't ever think of killing yourself! If ...if you really can't hold on, you can just quit, and I'll take care of you, okay!"

Jia Lingyi stifled a laugh. Sun Miao sounded really serious, but from her memory, Sun Miao was still a student who relied on her parents.

Jia Lingyi, on the other hand, had been earning money since she was a child. Both as Xia Mengqi and as Jia Lingyi.

She didn't think she had ever heard anyone offer to take care of her.

Xu Shengyu did "take care of her." However, it came at the sky high price of her freedom, and eventually her life!

Sun Miao noticed that Jia Lingyi was sad again, and she frowned.

"Lingyi...is...is something wrong? Is your company making things hard for you again?" Sun Miao asked her.

Jia Lingyi frowned. "They made things hard for me a lot in the past?"

Sun Miao nodded her head, her small face tightening up in anger.

"Of course! They made you work hard, writing songs for them day and night, and they didn't even defend you when all of the rumors were spreading about you online! They are really terrible people!"

Jia Lingyi frowned when she heard this. She thought of something just then.

She had no idea how long she had been dead, and the news of Xia Mengqi dying was definitely not something that could be kept a secret.

At least not for long.

She looked at Sun Miao skeptically.

So why had there not been any news about what was going on?

"Miaomiao, can I have your phone?" Jia Lingyi asked urgently.

"Sure, sure, do you want to call your mom? Aunt Zhao is really cold to you. Don't tell me she hasn't come to see you? She...."

Jia Lingyi snatched the phone away from Sun Miao as she was talking, and she searched for the headlines.

"How... how could this be?"
