Chapter 4 - chapter 4

New day, new dawn, new chapter of my life.

I began my day by waking up(obviously), change clothes, and go to school.

A simple life fitting for a mob like me.

I opened the sliding door to our classroom and saw a bunch of extra and a few named characters.

I also saw my mob friend waving to me as if saying hello, so of course I waved back.

After that, I sat down and waited for the teacher.

Still, I have kind of expected her to be talkative since she's the one explaining the attacks and all but... I never knew she was this talkative.

"-And that's why demons hate humans with extreme passion. By the way, where's your current foundation at?" My mob friend asked me.

Wait, I was zoning out, what was the demon thing about again? Haah... Missed out on a good info dump.

"+1 star foundation," I said monotonely.

She nodded then added some info.

"Ahh, so you're below average then? Still, it's impressive that someone at that level can manage to get to the top 50. What's your secret? I'm at 2 star foundation for reference, slightly above average," she blabbered.

Hey, that's a stray bullet. Are you insulting or praising me? Not cool mob friend, not cool.

But, since she brought out this topic, it would be better if she continues. Not only will she explain the magic system, but it will also save me from explaining it myself.

If so, I need to be strategic.

I need to steer the conversation to that topic as if it's natural. I need to look like I'm interested so that she could explain it briefly.

That's not all, I also need to think about what specific words I need to use, it must be short and precise since I don't want to talk too much.

Thinking deeply, as if the world is slowing down, I thought of all possibilities inside my head and calculated her reactions.

All of that lead me to one possible outcome.

"Dem, jit ya rock, t-tell me more about magic systems," I said monotonely. This is the moment I realised, I have no social skills.

ARGH I WANT TO DIE FROM EMBARRASSMENT WHAT WAS THAT REPLY?!! DID I ALSO JUST BIT MY TONGUE AND STUTTER TOO?!

she looked at me, confused, but she decided to ignore my eccentric behaviour.

You're really a good friend mob-san... Sorry for doubting you earlier.

"Ahem," she coughed. "A constitution, or foundation in a sense, is the measurement of power that is commonly used at our current time.

It goes from -1 star foundation up to +9 star foundation. An average male person can be measured as 1 star foundation and the current strongest person in this planet is currently -9 star foundation.

For every 1 star, there will be 3 tiers, the low(-), middle, and high(+) star. This represents your level of mastery within your current league.

To get from +1 star to -2 star foundation, the individual must perform a breakthrough ritual. There are other ways too such as near death experience but the most consistent is the former," she finished, naturally info dumping all information skillfully.

Not only you're a good friend, but also a reliable word count machine.

"What about the other ways?" I asked, naturally if I am interested in a topic, I need to ask some questions as if really curious.

"Well, that would be-" before she could continue, the sliding door opened and our teacher barged in.

Great, this is the infamous "conversation cutter technique" used to skillfully cut a conversation whenever the author realises he can't think of a way to end a conversation. Truly a magnificent creation.

My mob friend sat besides me and the lecture began.

Of course, there's the attendance thing but be glad that I will be skipping that.

Anyways, right now our teacher is yapping about magic control or what not so it isn't that interesting.

But I think he will give out some important information soon.

"And that's why hexagon is the bestagon. Next week we will do a simulation about a monster outbreak in the school. This will be done with a group of 3 people, you cadets decide who you will choose to be your group mate. Class dismissed," he said before sighing, and quietly leaving the class.

Oi oi, what was that about the hexagon teach? I didn't hear it because I was phasing out so don't leave me with a cliffhanger!!

Welp, that's unfortunate.

Anyways, what did teach say again? Oh right, group work, great.

Not like I wasn't expecting it though, I've already played the game so this much is predictable, I'm sure I'll make it out just fine.

So, who will be my group mate?

They should be mobs just like me, not gathering enough attention too. So the main cast is out.

Their strength should be around my level, but if they're stronger than me that is also fine, I'll just become the burden and laze around while they do the hard work.

Now, lastly, I need to have a good relationship with them. Preferably a friend or something.

Wait a moment... Friend...

I turned my head, slowly, towards my explaining mob friend.

In return, she also turned her head slowly towards me, as if coming up with the same conclusion with mine.

"Do you have an extra friend?" I asked.

"None," she replied.

We're done for.

"What we will we do?" She asked back, hoping to find an answer.

"There's nothing we can do," I replied, whilst a specific theme song emerges in my mind.

Both of us turned quiet.

When you think about it, having 2 people on a group isn't that baffling considering that there are 50 people here, which means not divisible by 3. So, if there's one group with only 2 people, it would still make sense.

But that isn't what I want.

Being the only group that has 2 people in it would surely attract attention. It might even deviate a certain plot point in the future, which is why I'm avoiding this with any means necessary.

"Should we just find someone who still isn't in a group?" My mob friend murmured.

Of course I nodded.

It's the only way to not to deviate from the original game, we need to socialise.

Therefore, with it being the only possible solution, we will scout for someone.

"Do you see anyone suitable?" I asked her, of course, I'm not intending be a slouch either.

"Well," here it comes, "There are a lot of options, but since we're both vanguards, we need someone who could work in long distances. Someone like Eris-"

"Don't consider her," I said, cutting her off. Looking dead serious in the eye.

She looked at me, tilting her head a bit, before nodding.

"Then, we need a bowman or a mage. A support could also be considered, but we don't have a lot of those in this class. Bowmans are also scarce so that leaves only one option..."

She concluded, her hand point at someone, someone so unexpected I would even say that i don't know him.

No, like, I really don't know who she's pointing at.

"Very good," I replied, a sense of proudness lingering beneath my voice as I look down on who she's pointing at to look even more awesome.

It's totally not because the elevation of that random is lower than mine, not at all.
