'Not Shirou, nor a background character, but the bastard with the most punchable face in the franchise, other characters had their fan base, but Shinji had the most controversial fan base.
The reason being, even though the other characters from this game had alternate versions with more powers and stronger, he only had the job of being a villain, a pathetic one at that, and even his servant self is a villain in the eyes of one of the game's heroines.

Sakura was quiet but felt she knew what was going to happen
'He's still the same... He will violate me...' Sakura felt her body growing hot, the thoughts appearing in her head.¹

Sakura lost a bit of balance, and then the Rider's hands held her.
"D-Did you see?" Said Sakura, her voice shaking as if what she had just seen was a lie.
"Un," Said Rider while nodding.
The half control of Rider that Sakura gave to Shinji quickly returned to her.¹
"Can I kill him?" Said Rider. Her face was full of killing intent.¹
Rider wished to free the poor girl being bullied by her own brother.¹
Sakura then said. "No need, Nii-san just fell to this level with my help, poor Nii-san tried his best, didn't he?"¹
If Rider killed Shinji, Zouken wouldn't care much, as long as he had someone with great magical abilities like Sakura, Shinji would be just a small or even nonexistent inconvenience.
Rider knew what Sakura meant; killing him wouldn't change much.¹
