"I can only tell that your fate has some dissonance. I didn't see anything else. You know, I'm not a true Seer," Azik said with a gentle smile, shaking his head. "But I'd suggest you stay cautious for a while. If another coincidence happens, it might mean something is interfering with your fate."
"I understand. Thank you for the warning, Mr. Azik," Klein said, nodding solemnly. Curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "Is this one of your abilities, Mr. Azik? Are you an Extraordinary of the Fate pathway?"
Klein's mind flashed to the Sequence "Monster" Old Neil had once mentioned.
"I'm probably not on the Fate pathway. Honestly, I'm not sure which pathway I'm on…" Azik shook his head, his gaze turning melancholic as he stared at the Tingen River's surface. In a slow, deliberate tone, he began sharing his story.
No past, no parents, no memory of who he once was—just occasional dreams of uncertain truth.
As for his Beyonder abilities, Azik had gradually discovered them during his university years. But he had little memory of them, unaware of their full extent, and could only use a fraction instinctively.
"That's why I wanted to talk to you, Klein. I'd like your help finding clues to my origins. You don't need to go out of your way—just keep an eye out if you come across anything," Azik said, finishing his story and looking at Klein with a earnest request.
Klein hadn't expected such a tale, but his own transmigrator experience gave him a sense of empathy for Azik's plight. He exhaled, then asked, puzzled, "Mr. Azik, why not enter the Beyonder's world yourself to search for your past? And…"
He glanced at Evah, who was eagerly watching the exchange, and added, "Why me?"
The unspoken question: You're close with Jack too—why not ask him?
At this, Azik gave a self-deprecating smile and explained why he avoided the Beyonder's world: fear of danger, fear of death, and attachment to his current life. He wasn't willing to take risks.
That didn't mean he wanted Klein to take risks in his place. If Klein weren't already in the Beyonder's world, Azik wouldn't have asked. Even now, he wasn't pushing Klein to take dangers—just to note anything relevant to his past if it came up.
"As for Jack…" Azik glanced at Luo Lin, choosing his words carefully. "His personality isn't quite suited for this."
Klein went quiet, looking at Evah. After a few seconds, he nodded thoughtfully. "Fair point."
Now it was Evah's turn to bristle. He glanced between Azik and Klein, exclaiming, "Hey, what's that supposed to mean? Am I stupid or something?" Of course, it was all an act.
"Ahem, that's not what we meant. It's just… your personality is a bit naive. We're worried you'd get taken advantage of," Klein said, coughing lightly to explain.
"Jack, I just think you might not be the best fit for this kind of task," Azik said gently.
"That's stereotyping!" Evah huffed, shooting them a mock glare. Then, as if struck by an idea, he put his hands on his hips. "And who says I can't help? Whether it's Klein's fate dissonance or Mr. Azik's past, I've got solutions."
"What solutions?" Klein asked, genuinely curious.
"I can write to my teacher," Evah said, flashing a smug grin. "My teacher's amazing. He'll definitely have answers."
Klein: …
Azik: …
What could they say? Classic Jack!
"You have a teacher?" Klein snapped out of his internal snarking, looking at Evah with surprise.
"Duh, of course I have a teacher. You think I taught myself?" Evah shot Klein a puzzled look, as if confused by his shock.
Right, why did I assume Jack didn't have a teacher? Klein fell silent for a few seconds before asking, "Who's your teacher?"
"Lucifer Zoroast…" Evah answered without a second thought, then, as if remembering something, clapped a hand over his mouth. "Wait, my teacher said not to use his full name publicly…" He looked at Klein and Azik tentatively. "Can you just pretend you didn't hear that?"
"Your teacher is lucky to have you," Klein said, at a loss for words and managing only this after a long pause.
Azik rubbed his brow, as if recalling something, and said, "Marauder?"
By now, Klein had connected the dots to the Transmigration Diary he'd read above the gray fog a few days ago. The strikingly familiar name "Lucifer" paired with the surname "Zoroast" sparked a suspicion in his mind.
Could Jack's teacher be that transmigrator who got targeted by Amon?
Unbeknownst to Klein, as he mulled this over, Evah was observing his expression. With his already sharp knack for reading people, enhanced by the "Mishchief-maker" potion's abilities, Evah quickly got the result he wanted: Klein hadn't divined that he wrote the Transmigration Diary.
So the Nyar's Fragment really can interfere with the Sefirah Castle?
Evah reached a conclusion inwardly but kept his persona intact on the surface. Seeing their reactions, he pouted, feigning indignation. "I only blurted it out because I trust you guys. I'm not like this with others."
Klein and Azik weren't sure if they bought it. They exchanged a glance, and Azik spoke first. "Thank you for the offer, Jack, but I'd prefer to keep this matter private for now."
Though Azik trusted Evah, he was naturally wary of Evah's teacher.
"I don't think I'm at the point of needing you to write to your teacher yet," Klein said, politely declining as well.
"Fine, fine, I get it—you don't trust my teacher. Whatever," Evah said, pursing his lips with a hint of disappointment. But he quickly perked up. "Even without writing to my teacher, I can still help you, Mr. Azik."
"How so?" Azik asked, this time not dismissing him outright but responding gently.
"My teacher once gave me a special gem. When used, it can summon projections of someone's past. Since you want to know your past, Mr. Azik, we could summon someone connected to you and ask them," Evah said casually, dropping a massive bombshell.
