The alarm woke her up at exactly 6:45, Leila sat down on the bed, she did not realize she would get so used to being at home . Now to go to work had become stressful for her. She heard the distant sound of the Television, her mom had probably slept off while watching it. She had to remind herself that she loved her mom and she was not trying to be wicked but the relationship was better off as distant. Her life here in New York was way complicated than when she was still in Cali and her mom might not really understand the concept of the whole thing. Her head was throbbing, she needed to drink coffee to wake her up. She stood up and went directly to the kitchen, she peeped through the door and her mom was still fast asleep, she smiled. She had forgotten how her mom looked so peaceful when sleeping. Her alarm beeped again and she rushed back into the room.
Crap. She did not even know what to wear, she picked out a grey pencil skirt and a white shirt to go with it, with black heels. She dashed to the bathroom to take a shower. Her mind was racing, and her mind was taunting her with different questions like, how would she act around Gavin? Would she be tagged as a slutty secretary for sleeping with her boss? She shrugged the questions off as she dressed up. She put in some blush to give her skin color and applied lipgloss. She looked good. Damn! She knew she looked good. She had to be at work early to work on some files that have been left unattended to since the whole Gavin and the party saga, she carried her work bag and headed outside. The air was chilly and she hugged herself because of the cold.
She was about to order a taxi when Gavin's car stopped beside her. She looked genuinely shocked, "What are you doing here?"
Gavin chuckled, "I just knew you would decide to go into work early and I decided to pick you up and drop you off at work, I do not need to resume until later in the day. I am the boss, you know? He smiled, that lopsided smile that made her heart tug. "What are you waiting for? Come in. I should probably act the gentle man part but for fear of being recognized, let us keep it this way. There are probably cameras everywhere now, thanks to Adele"
Leila laughed heartily, There was really nothing that Adele would not do to stake her claim on her fiance. Well, she was entitled to do so but it was extreme at this point and something was telling her that he would leave her soon.
She opened the car and got inside, she kept on staring at her fingernails. She could feel Gavin's stare and it made her feel hot inside. This man was going to be the death of her. When he stretched out his hand and placed his free hand on hers, she melted like butter.
"Gavin, can I ask you something?" Leila blurted out all of a sudden. Dang! She did not know what came over her.
"Sure, anything" he replied.
Leila took in a deep breath before replying, "This might be weird but what are we? I mean, you have a fiancée and I am your secretary that is sleeping with you, does that not make me a slut?"
Gavin paused for a bit, his grip tightened on hers but his gaze was still focused on the road, "Leila, I am driving and I can not really give my full attention to you right now, how about I reply to this when we get to the company, okay?"
Leila nodded in reply, she did not even care if he saw her nod. She felt too embarrassed to even open her mouth. What was she even expecting on the first place? For him to declare his love for her? This was not high school and she was not a teenager that is love stricken, this was probably the end of whatever it is that they had going on. She just had to open her mouth and ruin everything.
The car stopped abruptly and Gavin turned off the ignition. "Back to what you asked, should I give you my answer now or later?"
Leila faked a smile, "Do not worry, it is not necessary you answer and besides I am pretty sure I am late for work already. I am not the boss". She made to open the car door but he pulled her back and dragged her closer to him before he kissed her. This was definitely not how she pictured her morning. The kiss was intense, molding her and shattering her all at the same time.
He broke the kiss and looked at her with those eyes of his, "I like this Leila, what we have is different and I do not want to ruin it by placing a label on it. But just know that you can trust me and I will make things right. I promise baby"
Leila smiled in response, she was too excited to say anything, as she stepped into the building, there were two voices fighting each other in her head. One was telling her to end things now because there were a lot of red flags while the other voice was telling her to stay. She listened to the latter.
