Chapter 13 - 13 Chasing the Murderer on the Island (III)

After a few days of fatigue and a good night's sleep, Roger felt relaxed all over. He slept soundly and woke up at noon. Lucy helped him wash and dress, and took him to the reception hall for dinner after everything was done.

He happened to run into Elfa who was yawning and coming out of the room. He was also walking out under the guidance of a maid. When he saw Roger, he quickly raised his hand and greeted him.

Seeing his livid face, dark circles under his eyes, and a tired expression, and then looking at the maid's unnatural gait, Roger laughed in his heart. This big fool who had just started having sex seemed even hungrier than him.

When we arrived at the hall, Randy and Matar had already finished their lunch and were chatting idly.

Randy glanced at the maids beside Roger and Elfa, and a hint of resentment appeared in his eyes.

The old earl also arranged a maid for him last night, but unfortunately he had just recovered from his injury and did not dare to move much. Amid the girl's surprised look, he managed to sleep soundly all night while holding the girl in his arms. That's why he got up early in the morning with full energy to have breakfast.

As more people came, the atmosphere became lively. Several people chatted while eating, and occasionally made dirty jokes. Although Matar was a girl, she was generous and didn't mind their jokes.

But sometimes she would chase and beat them when she got angry. The strength of this female hunter of the leopard tribe was not to be underestimated. Roger and Randy, two bad-mouthed guys, were beaten to a pulp in a short while.

As they were talking, the old butler, Orton, walked in slowly and handed over a few pieces of parchment to the people respectfully. Roger took them and looked at them. On them were a series of names and the specific time when they moved into Klin. He saw that several names were circled in red ink. The old butler explained that the Earl had specially asked them to circle them. They were Nords who had moved in in recent years.

Roger glanced at the names and suddenly felt that one of them looked familiar.

"Hmm? Isn't this Yeager the farmer who raises cattle? I heard that their cow gave birth to a monster recently?"

"Oh? My brave lord, you also know about this? Yes, the cow of the Yeager family recently gave birth to a calf with only three legs, and everyone thought it was a monster. The rumor was so strong that the Earl even sent guards to teach those who spread the rumor a lesson." The old butler twirled his gray beard.

Roger lowered his head and thought carefully, and suddenly an idea came to his mind. Isn't the image of the Yellow Springs monster in the classics the three-legged demon bull? This rumor seems to be more than just a rumor. These few members of the Gathering Religion may have been deliberately led here by someone with ulterior motives. The cattle farmer Yeager is probably not a simple person.

Roger thought of this and turned to look at Randy. Seeing a strange look in his eyes, the two nodded in tacit understanding. Roger didn't even bother to finish his lunch. He just ate a few mouthfuls and rushed to the home of the cattle farmer Yeager. He asked several times along the way and finally found Yeager's farm after many twists and turns.

The farmer with brown hair, red face and a big red nose was washing potatoes that he had just dug out of the field.

Seeing several adventurers coming to his house in a hurry, he couldn't help but frown.

"Are you Yeager?" Roger asked.

"It's me, who are you?" Yeager was very disgusted with the arrival of the strangers. His face was gloomy, and he was ready to drive them out with a dung fork if they didn't agree. However, these people were all adventurers.

He didn't dare to really fight with them. He just dared to drive them away with that ugly face.

"We are adventurers hired by Count Martin to investigate the case of missing persons."

"Oh, it's the Earl who asked you to come! Please take a seat."

Count Martin was extremely popular in Klin, and Yeager dared not neglect the people sent by the old count. He quickly pulled out a tree stump from behind the cowshed and used it as a chair for them to sit on.

Roger glanced at the cowshed and whispered, "I heard from the islanders that your cow gave birth to a three-legged calf?"

Yeager would have looked nervous and uneasy when he heard this, but surprisingly, he was so angry that his face turned red. He smashed the potato in his hand to the ground and said with gritted teeth, "What a bullshit rumor! The calf born by my cow is obviously fine! I don't know which son of a bitch secretly sawed off its leg. I was unlucky enough to lose a calf, but someone actually spread such rumors!"

Seeing how angry he was, it didn't seem like he was pretending, and everyone couldn't determine for a moment whether he was related to this matter.

Randy asked, "You mean, someone attacked your calf? Do you know who it was? Or who has your calf come into contact with since it was born?"

"How would I know that! If I knew who touched my calf, I would chop off his fucking hand!"

"Let me ask you another question. Before or after the birth of your calf, did anyone know that your cow had given birth?" Randy waved his hand, signaling him not to be so angry.

Yeager's anger gradually subsided. He pinched his chin and thought for a while. He said, "Every time a livestock on the island gave birth, the priest in the temple would be invited to pray for it. The night before our cow gave birth, I asked Pastor Lundit to come to our house. No one else knew about it except him."
