Chapter 98 - The God That Shouldn’t Be

Location: Ruins of Myrrha — The Convergence Site

POV: Seris Valen | Caelis Thorne | Ashren Vale

The sky was no longer a sky.

It was a wound.

A vast, gaping tear through which light and shadow warred, spilling ancient truths like blood across the ruins of Myrrha. And in its center, the god that predated Thamaris—formless, for it had never been given one—descended like a question the world had never dared ask.

---

Seris — The Flame Fractured

Seris stood before it, her body trembling as flame tried to reject what her soul could not. The fire within her bent, screamed, flickered. For the first time, she understood what her power had come from—not divinity, but fragments of what had been locked away.

> "It isn't a god," she whispered to Ashren. "It's raw will. No shape. No rules. Only desire."

Ashren nodded. "It's the first hunger."

> "And how do you kill hunger?"

Ashren didn't answer.

Caelis did.

> "You feed it something it can't consume. Us."

---

Caelis — The Reckoning

Caelis stepped forward, eyes no longer only his. The Beast that once slumbered beneath the ice—the chained creature—was quiet now. Submissive. Not because it had been broken… but because it had chosen him.

Their souls were one.

And from his chest, a second heartbeat thudded in sync with the storm overhead.

> "I'm not just a vessel," Caelis said. "I'm the leash."

He raised his sword. It howled. Not metal. Not magic.

Judgment.

---

Ashren — The Crowned Shadow

Ashren moved without fear. The throne's power coursed through him, dark and endless. But even now, he resisted the temptation to rule.

He hadn't taken the crown to dominate.

He took it so he could choose how the world ended.

And who would live when it began again.

He looked to Seris. "Burn its memory."

To Caelis. "Cut its soul."

And to the thing above—

> "I am Ashren Vale, son of blood, king of the broken, heir to no god."

> "And you… are unwelcome in my world."

---

The Battle Begins

The sky answered in screams.

Tendrils of shadow lashed out, tearing the air like parchment. Magic cracked. Earth lifted in great slabs. And the three warriors—fire, blade, crown—ran toward it.

Together.

They weren't gods.

But they had something gods never understood.

Loss.

Love.

Limit.

And they would use all three to rewrite the ending.

---

Final Scene — The First Strike

Caelis's blade met the beast's shadow with a scream of metal and soul.

Seris ignited the heavens, fire forming wings at her back.

Ashren stepped into shadow and became something else.

The first blow was struck.

And for the first time in eons, the god that shouldn't be… felt fear.
