Chapter 38 - They Live...!?

As Xue Ren faced over 10 Golden Core Realm Experts by himself in Star Bearer City, a married couple could be seen soaring through the skies on a Flying Sword.

"That weasel-like Coalition Leader better not have been lying," Lan Yue harrumphed. "He told us that a person around Little Xue's height traveled through this area wearing a cloak. Xue had this hobby, so it must be him!"

"But Dear, didn't that man say the cloaked figure was extremely proficient in the Fire Element…? Also, multiple Foundation Establishment Realm Experts were killed by this person, so how could—"

"It must be him!" Lan Yue exclaimed. "There's no way it could be anyone else."

"...Okay…"

Fang Ren was helpless before his wife.

Normally, it wasn't like this, but when it came to the safety of one of their children, nothing could unwind her. She was like a perpetual motion machine of pure-willed motherhood.

"Hmm?"

While flying, something attracted Fang Ren's attention.

"Honey, don't those look like burnt structures?" he asked, pointing at an area of slight discoloration in the distance. "I'm not sure the one we're following is Little Xue, but we could be on his trail."

Lan Yue cupped her hands over her eyes, almost instantly yanking her husband. "We must go forth, Hubby! Our baby boy could very well be trapped under the debris!"

'...I doubt he'd be trapped if he was the mysterious pyromancer who incinerated the place to begin with…'

Seeing how eager his wife was, Fang Ren sighed as he beckoned the Flying Sword to bolt off in that direction. Upon reaching the ashy location he pointed out, they descended and leapt off into the mushy sutt.

After a period of searching, Lan Yue called out, saying, "Lookie here, Hubby!" She showed him a skull with a peculiar indent. "Little Xue always used to hit his training dummies in this exact spot! This proves without a shred of doubt that it's him we're following! Yippee~!"

Lan Yue jumped over to her husband, wringing herself around him.

In her excitement, she forgot to make sure that her robes were tightened, so Fang Ren got a succulent view. He gulped, his eyes tracing everywhere that they weren't supposed to be looking.

"Dear, it's been a long while since last we did IT; why don't we have a little fun out here—"

"Come on, Hubby!" Lan Yue got off him and pointed to the North. "The lingering energies are leading that way; we should continue our journey and find Xue as quickly as possible!"

"Y-Yes, of course…" Fang Ren was dejected, also pent-up.

But at the same time, finding his son and clearing up the misunderstanding was very important to him as well. Therefore, he gave no objections to her forthright directives.

In the days that followed, the unique married couple would go from one area to the next, traveling all over the Star Bearer Province.

Meanwhile, the one whom they were searching for had kicked up a great big storm in the Capital City.

Half a month after his hard-fought victory against the 10+ Early Golden Core Bloodring Assassins, Xue Ren was unfortunately surrounded by Officers of the Law. And seeing as how the only Bloodring Assassins left were out of town—and taking into consideration his reluctance to senselessly take innocent human life—he allowed himself to be taken into custody.

*Bang!*

A fist was slammed against a table, with the owner spitting all over the place as he yelled at a very handsome young man in cuffs.

"Are you still not willing to talk, you miscreant!?" The Officer hit his fist against the table several more times, doing his best to get the point across to the expressionless criminal. "This is the last time I'm going to ask you: where is your accomplice or Master!? The one who slaughtered 3 of the Bloodring Assassins' Guild Bases in this City!"

"...."

"Still playing the silent game!?" The Officer's forehead was now covered in bulging veins, his bulky muscles following the trend. "Fine! Just know that you're the one who asked for this—"

"That's enough, Yang Bi." A leaner and more intelligent man walked through a door leading into this isolated metal room. "I'll be taking over things from here. You're dismissed."

The bulky Officer was unwilling, but he knew this man was not someone he should be back-talking to.

"Yes, Vice Head, sir…"

The bulky Officer left the room, and the leaner one took a seat opposite Xue Ren. He adjusted his glasses, a small gleam shining through one side.

"You see, my Boss only wishes to warn and protect your Master," said the Vice Enforcement Head. "The enemies of your Master are no minor figures, after all."

Silence…
