Chapter 39 - Holy Light

Hundreds of inquisitors swarmed towards William like flies on a tasty corpse. Still, thankfully, due to the Flaxan invasion, he has accumulated a strong experience when dealing with a multitude of weaker opponents.

Abusing his superior strength and his natural flight ability to weave through their lines like a thread through the world's angriest needle.

BOOM!

William grabbed one of the Inquisitors who had gotten close by the face and slammed him headfirst into the ground, turning the unwitting man's head into a bloody pulp within the crater.

He wasted no time and leaped off the bloody crater with such force that the now very dead Inquisitor's body turned into a matching bloody pulp with distinct footprints in the center.

WHOOSH!

William passed straight through the abdomen of another, effectively cutting him in half with his body as the blade, before his halves fell to the ground with the sound of wet flesh.

As the slaughter intensified, the Knight was watching with a burning gaze, his attention, however, could not help but stray to the young woman still huddled in the fetal position.

SHHNK!

SHKK!

SLASH!

SHNNK!

SQELCH!

Glowing golden blades and crossbow bolts stuck out of William from multiple points as he was unable to dodge every single attack, and a waterfall of glowing blood spilled from his wounds to the ground below.

"TSK... What the hell is this shit made of? Even with how durable I am, they carve through me like a hot knife through butter. I had better get serious!" As he thought this, the glowing golden blades and arrow shafts began to give off a black smoke, and in a sight that shocked the watching Inquisitors, the weapons fell out of the demon's body.

An Inquisitor blinks, and suddenly Williams' demonic visage is standing in front of him with both arms grabbing his shoulders, holding him in place and preventing his escape.

William opened his flaming maw wide to the point that his mouth split at the edges, showing off more serrated flamelike teeth, and the Inquisitor could only watch in utter terror as demonic orange flames roared out and turned the man's upper body into a charcoal statue while leaving his lower body virtually untouched.

Sensing the approaching Inquisitors from behind, William grabs the now-dead Inquisitor and uses his body as a weapon to smash into the closest enemy.

SHATTER!

The upper body collapsed into dark chunks while organs and blood sprayed from the lower body onto the others, leaving them horrified.

William stood in the encirclement of Inquisitors who were too terrified to make the next move and squinted his eyes.

"Now, where did Mc Hammer go?" He asked himself as his eyes scanned the surroundings, but having a bad feeling, he turned sharply to where Marie was lying and saw the man approaching with a lecherous look in his eyes.

"YOU DARE!"

William roared, the flames on his head beginning to become unstable momentarily before something seemed to snap.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

A roar that was felt even outside the facility swept through the training room, and William's flames exploded outward, completely disintegrating the surrounding Inquisitors and leaving only those who were still at a distance alive to watch as their comrades ceased to exist.

"God save them!"

"Lord, have mercy!"

"DEMON YOU WILL PAY!"

Zealous and hypocritical roars were heard, but they could not even approach at the risk of being scorched by those hateful flames.

William's body was now entirely covered in bloody orange flames that shot forth towards the knight down below.

BOOM!

The sudden movement caused the air to explode behind him.

All the Inquisitors could see was a line of flames shooting towards the Knight commanding them.

Knight Perun looked up at the approaching demonic creature now wreathed entirely in flames and smiled.

"MAY LORD ON HIGH ASSIST ME IN SMITING THIS FOUL DEMON!" He roared a chant, and his body seemed to explode in holy light, forming an extra dense layer of holy armor around him as he prepared his hammer to strike.

Holy lightning crackled around his hammer, and behind the knight, six strange, illusory golden wings of a seraphim shot outward and bathed the man in holy light, giving him a heroic visage as if he were some chosen one to make the eyes of the nearby Inquisitors turn into stars.

Time seemed to slow as William's flaming fist and the hammer neared each other, the disparity between the bloody orange flames and the holy lightning giving off an image that would make for a masterpiece of a painting.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The resulting explosion sent Marie, who was still huddled down below, flying to the very edge of the training room and slamming her into the wall.

"HYAK!"

She fell forward and landed roughly on the ground, but just as this happened, the door opened and a young man she had come to trust immensely entered, followed closely by a group of shadowy men who looked like the Inquisitors, but they were all wreathed in shadows.

Cecil was the last to enter, and the first thing he saw was Conor turning one of his strange shadow soldiers into a cloak to cover Marie's body from onlookers.

Her wild hair and the messy makeup gave her a gothic appearance that momentarily stalled Conor's heart.

She shot forth and hugged Conor, pressing her forehead against his chest.

"Help him, he is hurting so much!" Marie's voice quivered with the thoughts of the literal rivers of blood she witnessed pour from William, and the light in her eyes suddenly went out, and she seemed to lose consciousness in his arms.

Conor's eyes became dark voids where no light could escape as he held her close to his chest and turned to Cecil, his dark glare sending chills up the old man's spine.

"Cecil, can you hold onto her? I got to go do a thing!"

Cecil did not protest and approached to grab Marie; he walked over to the door and leaned her against the wall before standing guard in front of her with his rifle at the ready.

WHOOSH!

Conor's cloak seemed to explode outward, and two dark angelic wings sprang outward, blotting out the light for Cecil, whose eyes went wide seeing this.

Those two massive, shadowy wings flapped mightily, and Conor shot towards the fight where demonic flames met holy lightning in a perpetual struggle for dominance.

BOOM!

An explosion rang out and nearly stopped Conor's momentum entirely, and he saw a being wreathed in bloody flames fighting a holy knight who had a pair of holy golden wings with a hammer crackling with equally golden lightning.

The Inquisitors noticed his sudden presence and began to surround Conor, who was now smiling sinisterly.

Before the Inquisitors could figure out why the man was smiling, swords made of pure shadows stabbed into them from behind, and Conor watched with glee as more and more fighters were added to his roster.

"However, I do not believe I can get too close to that!" He turned back to the fight, where things were heating up.

RUMBLE!

William had the Knight Perun with his back against the walls of a cliff, pressing him further and further inside.

As he was held there, a ball of condensed flames began forming in front of Williams' gaping maw, and the hair on Perun's neck stood on end.

"D... Demon filth!"

CRACKLE!

In an act of pure rage and fear, Knight Perun created a massive bolt of holy lightning that fell on both fighters, bathing them in the power of judgment.

William's flames were suddenly overwhelmed by the massive bolt of holy energy, and he was forced to release Knight Perun as he was blasted to the other end of the training facility and only stopped when he smashed into the wall with a massive, charred mark on his chest.

"HUFF, HUFF... Now stay down, you infernal bastard!"

Turning around to look for Marie, but was shocked to find her missing.

He was looking around for her when he felt an ominous premonition and spun back to where William was implanted into the wall.

The parts of the wall in direct contact with William's blazing form began turning red as the heat continued to mount.

"Want more, huh? Well, COME ON!" Knight Perun yells out in challenge to this demonic foe and raises his hand.

CRACKLE!

Dense and holy lightning began to form into the shape of a celestial javelin before landing directly into his hand.

Stepping onto the air as the ground was present, he performed a perfect Olympic throw, sending the javelin shooting toward William at the speed of lightning.

William suddenly shoots out of the wall, spraying red hot chunks in all directions, his body and the deadly javelin continue to approach one another, and the Knight begins to celebrate his inevitable victory.

Before the javelin can strike William, however, the flaming figure twists in the air and catches the javelin in his left hand and uses the force to redirect him into a tighter spin.

SIZZLE!

The javelin burned even though William was wreathed in flames, but through sheer grit and rage burning in his veins, he threw the javelin right back to the sender.

WHOOSH!

A golden shield immediately appeared in front of the knight as a seemingly hidden lifesaving artifact was used, and the holy javelin struck the golden shield and caused a blast of golden electricidal energy to shoot around and past him.

Although the blast was immensely powerful, the shield held out; the same could not be said for the surroundings, as the surrounding area was charred black by the blast.

Knight Perun's wings expanded outward as the shield finally collapsed, and now exuded a holy aura as he stared in a certain direction.

It was only now that he had noticed that his men were being slaughtered by strange, shadow men, and the sight of one of his subordinates being swallowed by the shadows and being reborn as one of the attackers sent chills up his spine.

TWICK!

Before the man could manage to form a coherent thought about a potential escape, he felt a sharp pain in his chest and saw an arrow made of pure shadow energy sticking out of his abdomen.

Conor floated in the distance with shadowy wings seemingly to mock the Knight's gaudy display, and in his hands was a bow that he had made using the soul of one of the Inquisitors as the base material with an aura of pure shadow.

A chilly smile was on Conor's face, and seeing the hateful glare of the Knight, he waved before pointing in his direction.

Little did Knight Perun know that Conor was not pointing at him but was pointing at the approaching mass of flames behind him.

As Knight Perun was about to yell out in hatred of this new foe but suddenly felt a blazing hot hand wrap around the back of his neck.

A terrible premonition appeared in Knight Perun's mind.

RIIIPPP!

William, wreathed in crimson and orange flames, used his off-hand to tear off one of the holy wings, causing a jet of blood to spray out onto William, who paid it no mind as it evaporated quickly upon nearing him.

"By all that is holy, release me demon!" He commanded as the glow around him intensified.

He was attempting to cause an explosion of holy energy around him but before he could complete the necessary preparation.

TWICK!

TWICK!

TWICK!

Three more shadow arrows shot forth from Conor's bow and struck the knight in his shoulder, his leg, and in the spot where there was already an arrow splitting the shaft of the previous shadow arrow.

RIPPPP!

"AAAAAHHHHHH!"

Another wing was ripped off, and Knight Perun had a look of sheer terror on his face as he looked around for an exit.

However, there were no means of escape; his men were slaughtered and turned into shadow beings, now surrounding him from all sides, staring at him with blank expressions on their faces.

Knight Perun thought that he was going to be tortured to death by this demon when he suddenly felt immense pressure pushing him downward, and because of his lost wings, he was unable to resist and was smashed into the ground.

William wasted no time and grabbed the man by his head and began dragging him towards a certain direction, the flames somewhat dying down to the point he was no longer burning to the touch.

Marie, having regained consciousness, watched as William approached from a distance, dragging the man who had tried to assault her by his head as blood leaked from his wounds.

The hammer the Knight had used was in William's other hand still crackled in defiance, but William held onto it despite this, and when the two reached Marie, he threw him to the ground before her.

CRACK!

The hammer smashed to the ground next to her feet, causing spiderweb cracks to form around the hammer head.

The flames around William had retreated to his eyes, revealing his unharmed but exhausted human form, and he looked at Marie with a stern glare as if taciturnly saying, "DO IT!"

The Knight groveled before Marie as the situation was becoming obvious, but the mounting fury in her eyes left him no reservations about how his end would be.

"Y... YOU!" She suddenly rushed up and grabbed the man by the collar of his warped and torn armor.

"This man tried raping me, he deserves a worse death than merely being beaten!" A smile formed on her face that sent chills down both Knight Perun and Cecil's spine, even Conor watching from above as he reabsorbed his shadow minions felt himself shiver in response to the yandere style smile.

She reached over and grabbed the hammer.

CRACKLE!

Golden lightning struck her in defiance, but she ignored the sensation through sheer rage as she raised it above the Knight and spun it around to where the handle was facing downward.

"No... NOOOOOOO...!"

Knight Perun yells out in terror, his mouth agape as he spat blood and mucus in his desperation, but before he could finish the yell, the handle of the hammer was shoved down his throat.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

Using her hand as a hammer, she slams the flat of her hand against the hammerhead that crackled with lightning, sending the shaft of the hammer down the man's throat forcibly.

Blood flowed like a fountain as she slammed the hammer deeper into his throat until the head blocked off his mouth entirely, and everyone nearby watched the man die choking on his blood.

Outside the base, Immortal and War Woman, along with her assistant, arrive with other members of their team as well as a group of Teen Team recruits, but all they see are corpses.

"What in the hell's happened?"
