Chapter 10 - chapter 9:Awkward morning

Morning light filtered through the tree house, casting a gentle glow over the group as they began to stir from their sleep. The night had been long and tense, but exhaustion had eventually won out, granting them a few hours of rest.

As the first rays of sunlight touched their faces, the group slowly started to wake. Jason and Sarah stretched, their animal traits twitching as they came to. But as they opened their eyes, they were met with an unexpected sight.

Somehow, in his sleep, Jackson had tossed and turned his way over to Alex and Noah. Now, he lay with his arm slung over Alex, while Noah, still deep in sleep, had his arms wrapped tightly around Alex, hugging him to his chest. Alex, still blissfully unaware, was sandwiched between the two of them, his face pressed gently into Noah's chest.

Jason raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Well, this is interesting," he said, his voice low to avoid waking the others.

Sarah chuckled softly, her mouse ears twitching with amusement. "Looks like Jackson decided to join the cuddle pile."

Noah, who was slowly waking up, became aware of the extra weight on his chest. His eyes fluttered open, and he immediately tensed, his protective instincts kicking in. He looked down at Alex, who was still asleep, and then over at Jackson, whose arm was draped over Alex.

Noah's annoyance flared, and he gently but firmly pushed Jackson's arm off of Alex. He pulled Alex closer to his own chest, his grip protective and possessive. "What the hell, Jackson?" He growled, his voice low and filled with irritation.

The sound of Noah's annoyed tone was enough to rouse Alex from his sleep. He stirred, his eyes fluttering open in a sleepy daze. He looked around, confused and disoriented, not fully aware of what had just happened. "What's going on?" He asked, his voice thick with sleep.

Noah's expression softened slightly as he looked down at Alex, but his tone remained firm. "Jackson decided to join us in his sleep," he explained, his voice filled with a mix of annoyance and concern.

Alex blinked, still trying to process the situation. He looked over at Jackson, who was now sitting up and looking embarrassed. "Oh," Alex said, his confusion slowly giving way to understanding. "I didn't realize."

Jackson ran a hand through his hair, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry, I didn't mean to, I must have moved in my sleep," he said, his voice apologetic.

Alex nodded, feeling a mix of embarrassment and warmth. "It's okay. I guess we were all pretty tired."

Jason, who had been watching the interaction with amusement, decided to chime in. "Looks like you two were having a sleep over," he teased, his voice lighthearted.

Sarah laughed, her mouse ears twitching with delight. "I think Jackson wanted to be part of the cuddle party."

Jackson's cheeks flushed even deeper, and he looked down, avoiding their gazes. "I really didn't mean to. I must have rolled over in my sleep."

Noah's grip on Alex tightened slightly, his expression still wary. "Just make sure it doesn't happen again," he said, his voice firm but not unkind.

Jackson nodded, understanding the weight of Noah's words. "I will. I promise."

Alex, feeling the tension, decided to lighten the mood. "Well, as long as we're all awake, how about some breakfast?" He suggested, his voice cheerful.

Jason and Sarah nodded, grateful for the change of topic. "Sounds good," Jason said, standing up and stretching.

Sarah smiled, her expression warm. "I'll help you, Alex."

The group began to move around, the initial awkwardness slowly dissipated. They knew they had a long day ahead, with tasks to complete and plans to make. But for now, they were together, and that was what mattered.

As the morning the light filled the tree house, Alex and Sarah set about making breakfast. The aroma of cooking food began to fill the air, a comforting scent that promised a momentary respite from the challenges they faced. Alex cracked eggs into a pan, while Sarah prepared some bread they had managed to scavenge.

"You know," Alex said, his voice thoughtful, "once we run out of food resources, we might need to consider other options. Fishing could be a good idea. There a river not to far from here."

Sarah nodded, her expression thoughtful. "That's a great idea. We could also start a garden. We have some seeds, and the soil here is decent."

Alex smiled, feeling a sense of hope. "Yeah, that could work. We just need to make sure we have enough water and protection from the elements."

As they talked, the boys, Noah, Jason, and Jackson moved to the open platform outside the tree house. The air was cool, and the view from the platform was breathtaking, a reminder of the world they were fighting to survive in.

Noah, still not trusting Jackson, kept a close eye on him. He leaned against the railing, his arms crossed, his expression wary. "So what's your plan, Jackson?" He asked, his voice filled with suspicion.

Jason, sensing the tension, decided to play mediator. "Come on, Noah. Let's hear him out."

Jackson took a deep breath, his expression sincere. "I know I messed up before, but I'm trying to make things right. I want to help. I can gather supplies, stand guard, whatever you need."

Noah's eyes narrowed, his protective instincts still in full force. "And what about Alex? I saw the way you looked at him."

Jackson's cheeks flushed, and he looked away, unable to meet Noah's gaze. "I... I don't know what you're talking about," he said, his voice filled with denial.

Noah stepped closer, his voice low and threatening. "Don't play dumb. I know you have a crush on him. But Alex is mine, and I won't let you mess with him."

Jason, feeling the tension rise, decided to intervene. "Noah, calm down. We're all on the same team here."

Noah's grip on the railing tightened, his expression fierce. "I won't let him hurt Alex. I can't."

Jackson, realizing he had to be honest, took a deep breath. "Okay, fine. I do have feelings for Alex. But I would never do anything to hurt him. I respect what you two have."

Noah's expression softened slightly, but his protective stance remained. "You better. Because if you do anything to hurt him, you'll have me to deal with."

Jason nodded, grateful for the temporary truce. "Let's just focus on surviving, okay? We can figure out the rest later."

As the morning sun climbed higher in the sky, the group gathered on the platform, their conversation turning to more practical matters. They discussed their plans for the day, the tasks they needed to complete, and the challenge they faced.

Alex and Sarah joined them, bringing with them the food they had prepared. As they ate, the group talked about fishing and gardening, their minds focused on the future.

"We should start with the garden," Sarah suggested. "It's more sustainable in the long run."

Alex nodded, his expression determined. "And we can go fishing in the afternoons. That way, we can conserve our energy."

The group agreed, their plans taking shape. They knew they had a long road ahead, but they were ready to face it together.

Noah, still feeling a mix of protectiveness and suspicion, kept a close eye on Jackson. But he also knew that they needed all the help they could get, and he was willing to give Jackson a chance.

Alex, ever the practical thinker, suggested a plan. "How about this: Noah, Jackson, and Jason, you guys can start working on the roof. Sarah and I can start making a garden near the tree house on the ground. That way, we can maximize our efforts."

Noah immediately growled out a firm. "No." His protective instincts flared at the thought of Alex being on the ground, vulnerable to any potential threats. He remembered the phantoms he had trapped inside the earth wall, not knowing if they were still a danger or if they had escaped. The thought of Alex anywhere near them sent a surge of protectiveness through him.

"No way," Noah said, his voice firm and dominant. "You're not going anywhere near the ground, Alex. It's not safe."

Alex crossed his arms, his frustration evident. "Noah, we can't just avoid the ground forever. We need to start the garden if we want to have a sustainable food source."

Noah stepped closer, his eyes filled with determination. "I won't risk you getting hurt. The phantoms I trapped could still be around, and I won't let you be in harm's way."

Alex rolled his eyes, his voice rising. "Noah, you're being overprotective. We need to be smart about this."

Noah's grip on Alex's waist tightened, pulling him closer to his chest. His voice was low and commanding. "I am being smart. You're too important to me, and I won't let anything happen to you."

Alex's cheeks flushed, his heart racing at Noah's possessive touch. He tried to maintain his composure, but Noah's dominance was overwhelming. "Noah, stop it. You're being ridiculous."

Noah's hand moved to Alex's chin, gently but firmly tilting his face up to meet his gaze. "Im not being ridiculous. I'm being protective. And you're going to listen to me."

Alex's breath caught in his throat, his body reacting to Noah's touch and dominance. He felt a mix of frustration and warmth, his heart pounding in his chest. "Noah, please," he said, his voice softer now, a plea for reason.

Noah's expression softened slightly, but his grip remained firm. "I promise I'll keep you safe. But you have to trust me."

Alex sighed, feeling a sense of resignation. He knew Noah meant well, and he couldn't deny the warmth he felt at Noah's protectiveness. "Fine. But we need to start the garden soon."

Noah nodded, his expression filled with determination. "We will, but for now, let's focus on securing the area."

The group spent the next few hours reinforcing the earth wall and checking for any signs of the phantoms. Noah used his ability to strengthen the wall, ensuring it was sturdy enough to keep any potential threats out.

As they worked, Alex and Sarah discussed their plans for the garden, making a list of seeds they had and the tools they would need. They knew they had to be patient, but they were determined to make it work.

Once the area was secured, the group took a break, sitting together on the platform. The sun was high in the sky, and the view was breathtaking, a reminder of the beauty that still existed in the world.

"We'll start the garden tomorrow," Noah said, his voice filled with determination. "But for now, let's focus on finishing the roof."

Alex nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Thanks, Noah. I appreciate you looking out for me."

Noah smiled, his expression warm. "Always."

As the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden hue over the tree house, the group finished the last touches on the roof. The structure was now complete, and they all felt a sense of accomplishment. The day had been long and filled with tension, but they had managed to work through it together.

Noah, however, had something else in mind. He couldn't shake the memory of Alex's earlier defiance, and a mischievous idea began to form. He wanted to tease Alex, to remind him the importance of safety, and perhaps indulge in a bit of playful punishment for his earlier attitude. His panther ears twitched with anticipation as he thought about how he could tease Alex, knowing full well how sensitive his fox ears and tail were.

As they climbed down from the roof, Noah caught Alex's eye and gave him a sly smile. Alex raised an eyebrow, sensing that something was up. "What are you planning?" He asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and suspicion.

Noah chuckled, his panther ears twitching with amusement. "Oh, nothing much. Just thinking we should celebrate finishing the roof. Maybe a little... private celebration."

Alex's cheeks flushed, and he looked away, trying to hide his reaction. His fox ears twitched nervously, giving away his growing apprehension. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, his voice a bit unsteady.

Noah laughed, his grip on Alex's hand tightening slightly as they walked. "Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough."

Once they were back inside the tree house, Noah pulled Alex aside, his expression filled with playful mischief. "You know, for someone who was so stubborn about safety earlier, you should probably be punished a little," he teased, his voice low and playful.

Alex's eyes widened, and he tried to step back, but Noah's grip on his wrist was firm. His fox ears flattened slightly, a sign of his nervousness. "Noah, come on. I was just trying to be practical," he said, his voice a mix of amusement and nervousness.

Noah leaned closer, his lips brushing against Alex's ear. "Practical, huh? Well, I think you need a little reminder of why it's important to listen to me."

Alex's heart raced, his body reacting to Noah's closeness. His fox tail twitched involuntarily, a clear sign of his growing awareness and embarrassment. He felt a mix of excitement and embarrassment, his cheeks turning a deep shade of red. "Noah, please," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Noah chuckled, his panther tail swaying with delight. He loved seeing Alex flustered, and he couldn't resist teasing him a little more. He reached out, his fingers gently brushing the edge of one of Alex's fox ears.

Alex jolted, his eyes widening in surprise. A soft gasp escaped his lips, and his cheeks flushed an even deeper shade of red. His fox ears twitched at the contact, and his tail swayed nervously.

Noah laughed softly, his hand moving to stroke Alex's tail. "You're so cute when you're flustered," he said, his voice filled with affection.

Alex felt a warmth spread through him, a mix of embarrassment and something else he couldn't quite name. He tried to focus on the task at hand, but Noah's touch was too distracted. "Noah, stop it," he said, his voice playful but with a hint of pleading.

Noah grinned, his grip on Alex's tail tightened slightly, just enough to make Alex's breath hitch. "Only if you promise to be more careful," he said, his voice low and teasing.

Alex nodded, his fox ears twitching with a mix of emotions. He felt his body heat up, a sense of happiness and contentment. "I promise," he said, his voice soft.

Noah smiled, his expression filled with warmth. But he wasn't done yet. He moved his hand to the back of Alex's neck, his touch gentle but firm. "Good boy. But I think you need a little more convincing," he said, his voice filled with dominant energy.

He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against Alex's ear once more. "You're mine, Alex. And I won't let you forget it."

Alex's breath caught in his throat, his body reacting to Noah's touch and words. He felt a shiver run down his spine, and his knees felt weak. His breathing became a little heavier, and he leaned into Noah, seeking more of his touch.

Noah chuckled, his grip on Alex's neck tightening slightly, just enough to make Alex's heart race. "Do you understand?" He asked, his voice low and commanding.

Alex nodded, his eyes wide with a mix of excitement and nervousness. "Yes," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

The sound of footsteps caught Noah's attention, and he looked up to see Jackson standing in the doorway, a smirk on his face. Unlike Noah and Alex, Jackson didn't have any animal traits, but he seemed to enjoy the dynamic between the two of them.

Noah's panther ears twitched with amusement, and his tail swayed lazily behind him. He tightened his grip on Alex's waist, pulling him closer as he leaned into to whisper in his ear. "You know, you're not getting out of this that easily," he teased, his voice low and playful.

Alex's fox ears flattened slightly, and his tail twitched nervously. He squirmed against Noah's grasp, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Noah, come on," he said, his voice a mix of frustration and amusement.

Noah chuckled, his panther ears swiveling to catch every sound. "Oh, but I think you like it when I tease you," he said, his voice filled with a mix of affection and dominance.

Jackson laughed, shaking his head at the scene. "You two are something else," he said, his voice filled with amusement. He leaned against the doorframe, watching the interaction with a grin.

Alex's fox ears twitched, and he tried to shoot Jackson a pleading look. "Aren't you going to help me out here?" He asked, his voice filled with mock betrayal.

Jackson only laughed harder, holding up his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Oh, no. I think you're on you're own with this one," he said, his voice filled with mirth.

Alex rolled his eyes, but then he turned his attention back to Jackson, his expression shifting into a playfully betrayed look. "You're a traitor, Jackson," he said, his voice filled with mock hurt.

Jackson chuckled, clearly enjoying the banter. "Guilty as charged," he said, his voice filled with amusement.

Noah grinned, his panther tail wrapping around Alex's leg in a playful gesture. "See? Even Jackson knows you're mine," he said, his voice filled with possessive affection.

Alex sighed, but he couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. "You're impossible," he said, his voice filled with affection.

Noah chuckled, his hand moving to gently stroke Alex's fox ears. "And you're adorable when you're flustered," he said, his voice warm and playful. "But I think you already know that."

Alex's ears twitched at his touch, and he felt a warmth spread through him. He tried to maintain his composure, but Noah's teasing was getting to him. "You're really enjoying this, aren't you?" He asked, his voice playful but with a hint of exasperation.

Noah laughed, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Of course I am. You're fun to tease," he said, his voice filled with mischievous affection.

Alex sighed, but he couldn't deny the thrill he felt at Noah's attention. He leaned into Noah's touch, his fox tail swaying gently. "Fine, you win," he said, his voice filled with resignation and amusement.

Noah grinned, his panther ears twitching with delight. "I always do," he said, his voice filled with playful confidence.

Jackson chuckled, shaking his head at the two of them. "You two are perfect for each other," he said, his voice filled with warmth.
