Trapped beneath the ruins of a collapsed mountain fortress, Karon—once a loyal ghoul soldier in the service of the vampire lord Azakar—awakens amid the corpses of his fallen comrades. Betrayed and left to die after sacrificing everything in battle, Karon survives the cave-in by feeding on the dead around him. In doing so, he begins to change—not just physically, but spiritually, shedding his loyalty and embracing a new, monstrous purpose.
Once desperate to earn the Blood Embrace and ascend into vampirism, Karon now sees his past devotion as foolish servitude. With each bite of decaying flesh, he grows stronger, absorbing memories and strength from the fallen. In the darkness of the cavern, he casts off the identity of a servant and declares himself a predator, reborn through betrayal and hunger.
No longer content to grovel at the feet of his vampire masters, Karon vows to rise—not as a pawn, but as a king of carrion. With vengeance in his heart and the hunger of the grave in his gut, he begins his climb out of the ruins, ready to forge a throne from bone and blood. The age of obedience is over. The age of the Carrion King begins.
