Chapter 22 - Stench of Blood

Looking at the lady some couple of years younger than the six of them, the witch couldn't help but receive the announcement with wide eyes and her body shaking from mixture of intense emotions, mostly positive ones that just made her feel quite excited, unable to wait any further to hear the details of this news.

Disappearing from her previous seat, her body pops out of nowhere right beside the lady, a member of her Legia, holding both her shoulders as she speaks to her.

"Tell me everything…" the goddess-like witch demanded with such fervor in her eyes that the lady announcing the news couldn't help but wonder if there is something that happened between their leader and that person they have been observing for more than half a decade now a person that just appears to be a mystery to them as despite already clearing the main mission for the first floor—a fact confirmed by their leader— he just refuses to ascend as if he's completely tied to the first floor, like he doesn't want to let go of something in there.

And now, this man who seems to be way too obsessed with the first floor ascends all too suddenly that their people within the Ascension Platforms didn't even manage to immediately identify him, leading to the point now where their people doesn't even have any idea of where he is right now, only knowing that he's already exploring the map of the tower's second floor somehow.

Looking at her with curiosity burning in their eyes, the rest of the six approaches near the lady who announces the news as well, all of them way too focused on the subject, even more than they did when they are establishing the plans to break through the tenth floor of the tower.

"Hm… they're getting weaker… looks like I need to head deeper if I want to improve even more…" looking at the floating azure screen displaying his information, Azrael thought to himself before he looks at the horizon, his attention towards the rocky mountain range in the distance with the peak of its mountains piercing through the clouds, the majesty of such view making the ascenders wonder just what sort of powerful existence is it that is capable of creating such marvel just on this floor alone, not to mention the numerous other floors this tower has to offer to its ascenders.

As this young man's gaze returns towards his guide though, he couldn't help but smile as he feels like he is making a lot more progress than he initially expected, his growth rate within this floor seemingly exploding as if all those years in the first floor increases his rate of improvement, like a bamboo shoot staying too far underground and then suddenly exploding to a full-grown bamboo.

After looking at his basic stats that already improved by the tens within just a few hours of improving himself in the second floor, the young man couldn't help but feel satisfied as he never felt this constant improvement in so long, and him making progress now just made him all the more confident that he should be able to deal with even the monster guarding the greatest treasure of the second floor with relative ease compared to the Fortress Golem on the first floor, especially since he now has skills that allows him to bridge the gap between him and those extremely powerful monsters.

'I can just rush to complete the quest for the second floor's treasure, but that would be too troublesome, that place is too far away from the cities after all… I need to prepare a lot of things if I want to go ahead and try to venture there…' the young man thought to himself as he already starts planning for his next moves, one of the things in his mind is the desire to buy a residence in the second floor.

"Let us not, I can hardly feed myself right now after all…" the young man said as a wry smile appears on his face, the downcast air around him immediately changing as he notices the enemies approaching from the distance, these ones completely different from the monsters that he had already encountered previously.

'I should probably buy a proper weapon first…' he reminded himself as he raises his sword-wielding hand to look at the weapon in there, the chipped edges of the blade along with the worn-out handle making it obvious just how much and how tough of battles this thing had gone through, making its performance just barely acceptable, just better than not using anything.

While checking out his weapon, Azrael also notices that his leather armor and boots already appears quite old now as well, the only difference when being compared to his sword being the fact that this armor still holds itself pretty well, unlike the sword that looks like it will collapse at any moment.

While thinking about all these things concerning his expenses, the young man couldn't help but frown as he felt an unpleasant feeling along with a wave of a disgusting stench, the surrounding suddenly being filled by a strong iron-like smell, prompting him to turn his gaze towards whatever it is that might be emitting this horrible smell.

"Tsk tsk tsk, looks like the second floor is more brutal than the first floor huh…" looking at the feral, canine structure of a monster holding a human's neck with its mouth, Azrael couldn't help but smile as he gets into a battle stance, prepared to battle it out with this creature even at the cost of his like.
