Dorm Seven was a rather unique place among the seven academy dorms—it also had the worst conditions. It was reserved specifically for work-study students.
After all, the academy wasn't a charity. Although work-study students had their tuition reduced, their treatment wasn't nearly as good as that of regular students.
It was also the only dorm with a mixed-age population. Regardless of grade level, all work-study students lived there.
As Xiao Yan approached Dorm Seven, he could already hear the commotion inside.
"Kids really are full of energy,"Xiao Yan shook his head and walked up to the door, reaching out to push it open.
It was a spacious room, roughly 300 to 400 square meters. Fifty beds were arranged inside, but only eleven had bedding.
The moment Xiao Yan stepped in, the children inside noticed him and turned to look.
Despite his simple black robe, Xiao Yan had long, glowing blue hair and sharply defined features like they were carved with a blade. He carried an air of elegance and nobility—even noble students of the academy didn't always compare.
One of the older boys glanced at Xiao Yan and walked over.
This boy was about the same height as Xiao Yan, but more muscular. He stood in front of him and looked down.
"You the new work-study kid?"
His strength didn't seem that great, but he sure acted cocky. Xiao Yan didn't particularly like this kid and gave a small nod in response.
"I'm Wang Sheng. My martial soul is the Battle Tiger. I'll be a Battle Soul Master in the future. I'm the boss around here. What's your name? What's your martial soul?"
Boss? What is this, some gangster flick? Xiao Yan felt a headache coming on. Never mind the academy's martial soul training; their character development clearly failed.
When Xiao Yan didn't respond, Wang Sheng grew angry, raising his voice.
"I asked you a question! What are you, deaf and mute?"
"Xiao Yan. Martial soul is Blue Silver Grass."
Wang Sheng made an exaggerated shocked face, and the other kids burst into laughter, staring at Xiao Yan like he was an idiot.
"You can cultivate with a trash martial soul like Blue Silver Grass?"
Xiao Yan didn't bother arguing with children. He turned to look around at the beds, choosing one carefully.
After all, this was where he'd be sleeping for a long while.
"What are you looking at, kid? I'm the boss here. You do what I say, got it?"
"Is this campus bullying?"Xiao Yan shook his head helplessly and placed his academy uniform on an empty bed.
"You little punk, you dare ignore me?!"Wang Sheng flew into a rage. He spun around and lunged at Xiao Yan like a tiger pouncing from the mountains.
Xiao Yan calmly raised his hand. With a thought, he released his martial soul—Blue Silver Emperor. He plucked a leaf, instantly compressed it into a pellet the size of a longan fruit, and flicked it with his fingers.
Wang Sheng saw a flash of blue light before feeling a sharp pain in his stomach. His body flew backward, totally out of control.
In an instant, Wang Sheng landed flat on his back like a flipped turtle.
"That was… a ball made from Blue Silver Grass?" He touched his aching belly, looked at his hand, and saw what hit him. His eyes filled with disbelief.
Could Blue Silver Grass really do something like that?
The other kids' mouths hung open in shock. The strongest person in the dorm had been taken down so easily.
So this Xiao Yan guy wasn't just some pretty face with delicate features.
And his martial soul, Blue Silver Grass, wasn't just some useless trash like the rumors claimed.
Wang Sheng rubbed his stomach and slowly stood up.
"Xiao Yan, huh? You've got some skill. But just now, I wasn't serious—I didn't dodge. Next time, I'll use my full power!"
A low growl came from Wang Sheng's throat—far too beastly a sound to come from a child.
A faint yellow glow rose from his body, and his aura completely changed from earlier.
Xiao Yan's eyes narrowed. Wang Sheng was using spirit power?
In a flash, Wang Sheng launched himself off the ground and charged at Xiao Yan, forming tiger claws with both hands, going for a move like "Black Tiger Steals the Heart."
Xiao Yan stood motionless, raising a single fist to meet the incoming attack.
Wang Sheng hadn't intended to seriously injure Xiao Yan—he just wanted to show him who's boss.
But the move came too fast to stop or change, so he gritted his teeth and shouted:
"You're asking for it, Xiao Yan!"
Fist met claw—and Wang Sheng's expression instantly changed.
Pain—ten times worse than before.
The next second, Wang Sheng flew back over ten meters, crashing into a group of kids.
They barely caught him, but even so, five or six of them were pushed back several meters before they managed to stop.
The kids all crowded around Wang Sheng, then looked at Xiao Yan in awe.
The new work-study kid was crazy strong.
Wang Sheng rubbed his hands and arms, finally convinced of Xiao Yan's strength.
"Xiao Yan, how are you so strong?"
"My family runs a blacksmith shop. Maybe I was just born with it."Xiao Yan said flatly.
"A blacksmith shop?"Wang Sheng looked him up and down. With his slim build, he didn't exactly scream brute strength. Must be something in his bones.
Xiao Yan glanced at the wooden bed, which only had a bare mattress.
"Don't we get pillows or blankets?"
Wang Sheng's face darkened.
"We're just work-study students. Our tuition's already waived—where would we get bedding? What we've got, we brought from home. But… you can share with me for now if you want."
Xiao Yan waved him off.
"Thanks, but I'll figure something out."
He still had a decent amount of savings. Getting some bedding wouldn't be an issue.
Wang Sheng now looked embarrassed.
"Sorry about earlier. Every new work-study student gets tested like this. We're always looked down on by the regular students, so we have to stick together. I just wanted to make sure you'd be one of us…"
Xiao Yan, being new, didn't say much—he just gave a slight nod.
Wang Sheng added:
"Xiao Yan, since you beat me, you're the boss of Dorm Seven now."
