The fire illuminated the room, It had been 3 hours since I had been given the Title of Head of the Mercer Clan.
It had been a cold and windy day, and yet kids still played outside even in the dark, lightless night, but I guess that's what we strived for, a world where our Children didn't fear the night.
I heard 3 light taps on my door, my room was quite bare, I didn't stay at the Mansion much due to me going on missions constantly, all I kept was a velvet chair next to the fire, a trunk at the end of my bed, and a weapon rack.
I opened the door, it was my Twin brother Quil, he looked just like me, white hair and green eyes, and yet he didn't have the same type of presence as me, he didn't earn respect, he demanded it.
"Congratulations, Brother" he held a bottle of wine "Let's celebrate." I shrugged "I don't know, I've already had a little too much." he waved his hand in dismissal "Whats one more glass" I relented and let him in, where he opened the bottle.
"Your room is quite underdecorated," I chuckled and then spoke, "Well, you know I don't spend much time here." he smiled and nodded.d "Well, do you perchance have any drinking glasses in here?" I opened the trunk and rummaged through until I found 2 metal cups, "Not the prettiest, but they work."
He poured our drinks, he raised his cup in a toast: "To your success." I nodded "To my success" our metal cups clanged together, it was odd for him to be here at the same time as me, he very much like me was bored of normal life so we adventured.
as I drank the wine it tasted slightly odd. "Where did you get this?" I asked and he nodded "some dungeon me and my party cleared" the way he said it was as if he wasn't also in the presence of someone who could fight on par with anyone of the 4 Lords.
Everything about the wine felt wrong, but he wouldn't, no one would actually try to poison me, the Man who cleared Heaven Gate alone, no, I must be a little paranoid.
The presence of sunlight was completely gone, and the auto light had turned on outside. A yawn escaped me. "Sorry to cut this party short but I need some sleep.", he had a creepy smile creeping onto his face. "Talk tomorrow before I set out again." I nodded.
He closed the door, and I got into bed without changing clothes.
I slowly drifted off into a calm sleep, until I felt my chest tighten, my eyes slammed open and I was ready to fight but when I scanned the room there was no one with me.
The fire had gone out long ago, when I was about to stand up my legs gave out right under me, I could feel my life fading and quick.
He really had poisoned me, my own Damn brother, if I was going out I would make damn sure he came with me.
Using the last of my energy, I forced all my Spirits to implode on themselves, this would kill me as all the spirits energy would be released but it should kill that Damned Traitor.
As my body burned from the inside out, I felt something going on just beneath my skin, it had begun to glow and eventually burn.
The last thing I saw before I fully blacked out was my legs exploding outward.
I was surrounded by a field where semi-see-through people walked. "Hello, Little one," a massive Skeleton said, its eyes were purple, and it wore a black robe."Where am I?" I asked it, it looked around "I see, this is what your afterlife looks like."
If I was dead that means i should be seeing Him here soon, and almost as if it read my mind "No little one, you failed, the betrayer still lives. but fret not yet for i have a deal for you" it spoke as if it had to remember what language it spoke, so to say plainly it spoke in a broken way.
I looked around again and saw a nearby river." What is this Deal?" the creature shrunk down to my size or I should say around my size since it still stood above me by a bit. "You give us the Betrayer's soul and we give you a freedom from this place,"I looked at is suspiciously.
"And why would you do that for me?" it didn't speak for a while "he broke a deal and we want our end of the deal from him" I sighed and nodded "no strings just kill this Betrayer and I get freedom from death" It nodded.
"Deal," it set its bony hand on my shoulder, and I felt a burning sensation on my left shoulder blade. "If you break your deal, you will die." I nodded, and I suddenly found myself in the arms of a very familiar and yet unfamiliar person.
