Chapter 10 - Dream

After cultivating for another two hours, Logan looked at the time and decided to wash up and get some rest.

'Tomorrow will be the starting point of something massive,' he thought. 'I have to make sure I'm at my best so everything works out exactly the way I want it to.'

Although he lacked experience in managing the businesses within the company, it was common sense for Logan to get rid of the leeches first.

'After that I can start looking into actual improvements and expansions that I want to fund. There's no use doing that now if the leeches suck the profits out.'

Lying down in his luxurious bed, exhaustion immediately washed over him. Falling asleep within seconds, Logan started dreaming.

In his dream, Logan stood on unfamiliar grass, surrounded by countless massive trees that looked full of life.

"Where am I?" Logan muttered, looking around in confusion.

Unsure of where to go, he began wandering through the massive forest.

'This place is incredible,' Logan thought as he pushed aside a thick branch.

Eventually, he found a break in the trees and looked up. The sky above was black, filled with countless stars.

What truly stopped him were the nine massive, sun-like stars in the distance.

Then, he suddenly heard an ear-piercing shriek.

"What..." Trying to block the sound with his hands, Logan looked at the sky again.

Above him, wings.

Massive, burning wings.

They tore through the sky, revealing a pure black void wherever they went.

Looking at its massive burning body, Logan was left with no words.

"Is that a phoenix?'' Logan mumbled, amazed.

Noticing some kind of sparks drifting to the ground, Logan feared the forest would be lit on fire. But instead, the forest started growing at insane speeds, trees shooting up higher than he'd ever seen them go on Earth.

Climbing on one of the ascending trees, Logan managed to get a better view of the massive phoenix in the sky.

That's when he saw the creature turn around, the glowing flame in its eyes disappeared and bright blue eyes appeared.

A chill went down Logan's spine, realizing the phoenix was looking straight at him.

Around it, the nine massive suns appeared.

Logan felt the heat all around him increase rapidly, making him panic.

'Is all this really a dream?' Logan thought, frozen in fear.

The suns started shining brightly, while Logan's body felt like it had been lit on fire.

Looking at his body, time slowed down.

He noticed his hairs burning away, until even his skin started melting, dripping on the tree branches below him.

Then, the pain kicked in.

However, before he could even scream, his face melted off.

Logan's eyes flew wide open, shooting up out of bed with sweat running down his body.

Looking around him, he realized he was safe.

"It was all just a dream..." Logan muttured, calming himself down.

"The pain felt so real."

Looking at his arms and legs, he couldn't help but shiver as he remembered the pain from his skin melting off.

Shaking his head, Logan stared out his window, still trying to calm down his rapidly beating heart.

Watching the sun slowly rise on the horizon, his heart slowly started beating at a normal pace again.

'I'm all sweaty now,' Logan thought, looking at his pajamas.

'I need to send Edric a message anyway,' he thought, realizing he didn't have any spare clothes in this room.

'I probably burned down the clothing they'd given me in the other room.'

Taking out the phone Edric had left him yesterday, Logan sent a message to Edric before putting his phone down.

'Let's take a shower now,' Logan thought. 'Today will be a long day.'

Entering his shower, he turned on the hot water. As the water hit his body, he was left with a quite pleasant surprise.

'It seems like I don't feel smaller differences in temperature anymore,' he thought, water running down his face.

"This must be the result of my higher body temperature," Logan assumed, thinking back about the medical scan.

Thinking more about his body temperature, Logan noticed something weird he'd previously not thought about.

'I really don't know what exactly happened to my body,' he thought. 'But with my body temperature being twice as high as normal humans, shouldn't I be feeling incredibly hot right now?'

When he was young, he'd read through quite a few interviews from strong hunters and learned that some of them with, for example, a strong ice affinity, had to build up resistance to the immense cold that came with it.

'I'll have to ask Edric about this later,' Logan thought, turning off the water.

Drying himself, he put on his bodysuit. Suprisingly, the suit had only lost some mana core fuel during the evolution of his affinity.

Stepping out of his bathroom, Logan found Edric waiting for him with a fresh set of clothes.

"Good morning, Edric," Logan said, smiling. "Thank you for bringing clothes so quickly."

"Good morning," Edric responded, sounding tired. "It's no problem."

The clothes he'd asked Edric to bring were of the formal kind since today was the day he'd have to give out his first commands.

Looking at himself wearing a suit in the mirror, Logan couldn't help but think back to a few days ago, when he'd just been a poor orphan.

'I really changed a lot, huh,' Logan thought, realizing how much he'd actually already adapted to his new surroundings.

"Alright," Logan said, turning to Edric. "Was any information found regarding the missing money?"

Edric looked at Logan weakly before shaking his head.

"It's fine," Logan said, smiling. "We'll find out who did it."

"None of it made any sense," Edric said. "There's been no sign of any external forced entries into our internal financial network."

Giving a nod, Logan thought for a moment despite already knowing how he wanted to respond.

"If there hasn't been a forced entry through external means," Logan started, "doesn't that mean someone has to have done it from the inside?"

Edric nodded. "That does seem to be the case."

Nodding, Logan showed a thoughtful expression.

"Alright," he said, snapping out of his thoughts. "I need you to call every available member from the board of directors."

Edric showed a questioning look, not understanding where Logan wanted to go.

"I think it's about time I gave my first real order," Logan said, showing a wide smile.
