Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: What just happened?

Ava was accompanied to a waiting area where she saw other applicants like her. She noticed that there were no female workers on this floor and thought to herself, "Why is that?" She counted about 7 males, including the guy who had accompanied her, but no females. All of them wore serious facial expressions, creating an intimidating atmosphere. The air was thick with tension, and the silence was only broken by the occasional rustle of papers or the soft hum of the air conditioning.

Five minutes later, the man who had accompanied her came in and announced, "The boss himself will be doing this interview. When you hear your name, you follow me..." He called out the first name, "Juliette Peters."

A girl in her early 20s stood up and left, her eyes fixed on the floor as she walked out of the room. One after the other, the applicants were called, but none of them returned to the room for Ava to ask how the interview went. The waiting area grew quieter with each passing minute, the anticipation and anxiety palpable.

Finally, she heard her name being called. "Ava Martins," the man said, his voice firm but polite. "Sir," she responded, standing up and smoothing out her skirt. She followed the man and stopped at a lavishly looking door, adorned with intricate carvings and a shiny brass doorknob. He knocked twice and told Ava to go in.

Ava held her breath as she pushed the door open, her heart racing with anticipation. Her eyes widened in surprise as she saw the guy sitting across the table, She read the nameplate on his table, which said "CEO Alexander Reed" in bold, silver letters. She thought to herself, "Wow, I've met this big shot about two times, but I didn't know he was the CEO of this company."

She composed herself and walked towards the table, trying to make a good impression. "Good morning, Mr. Reed," she said, her voice steady and confident. Alex looked up and stared at her, expecting her to cower in fear or feel uncomfortable with his gaze. Instead, she raised her eyebrows at him, her expression calm and confident.

Alex was surprised but quickly regained his composure, his expression neutral once again. "Boss, this is her intel," Rowan interrupted, handing Alex a file with Ava's information. Alex scanned through the file, his eyes stopping at her language skills.

"So, you're fluent in 7 languages?" he asked, looking up at her, his eyes narrowing slightly as he awaited her response. "Yes, sir," Ava responded, her voice steady and assured. Alex nodded, seemingly satisfied.

"There's a client from Germany I'm meeting tomorrow at 2 pm. Rowan will show you to your office. You're resuming tomorrow," Alex said, his voice firm and decisive. Ava thought to herself, "Huh, just like that?" She was surprised by how quickly the interview had gone.

Rowan thought to himself, "What just happened?" He had never seen anyone get hired so quickly by Alex."Follow me," Rowan told Ava, leading her out of the office.

As they walked, Ava asked out of curiosity, "Is this how they conduct interviews here?" Rowan's expression was cold, his eyes seeming to bore into her soul. "It seems like my boss has taken a liking to you. Other applicants either stutter or pee on themselves when they face him. You'd better not disappoint him," he said, his voice low and menacing.

Ava thought to herself, "In other words, he's trying to say I got hired because of my confidence... so lame... I better behave myself since I need this job."
