Chapter 25 - Let her go

The door burst open, and Calhoun walked in only for the scene of that crafty girl at gun point to fall in his sight_ his eye twitched. He had ordered his men to do so in case she tried anything funny on him and indeed she didn't disappoint. It was only human nature.

Kelly entered minutes later but Calhoun's frame had hidden Amyra from her view.

'Brother what is_' Kelly's eyes widened to the size of saucers at the scene.

'Kelly?'

'Amyra!' they said in a chorus.

'Kelly, do you know him_ oh right, how could I forget you just mentioned that he is your "brother". I really didn't see that coming. Plus, whom are these people?' Ayra spat angrily.

'Amyra please listen to my explanation first. You're totally blowing things out of proportion.' Kelly walked towards Amyra, but Calhoun held her hand effectively stopping her from doing so. Amyra looked at Calhoun with disbelief. He had done this kind of thing several times before; keeping hostages but she simply hadn't cared because they didn't matter to her. But Amyra, her newfound friend was now also a victim. She didn't need a saint to tell her that she was treated badly or even threatened_ that was just second nature to her brother.

'Blowing things out of proportion? Huh? I can't believe that people like you actually exist. I knew he was looking for you and suspected that he was up to no good, so I covered for you to the extent of having my innocent mom into this mess.' Amyra was genuinely disappointed.

'What are you still doing keeping her on gunpoint? Lower your guns this instant.' Kelly spat at the guards. However, they all remained stoic and just looked at their boss _Calhoun nodded in approval and only then did they oblige.

'BTW, I've been meaning to ask: is this some sort of mafia or something?' Her voice sounded amused but the look in her eyes was cold.

'Amyra please hear me out. You are a truly nice person and I feel regretful for letting you down. Do forgive me okay!' Kelly, finally free of Calhoun's grip embraced Amyra as she cried out all her grievances; she nearly died back then from the shock of having guns pointed at her.

Calhoun at the sidelines just felt like it was all too dramatic.

Amyra knew better than to associate with people involved in the mafia. There are a lot of things that could be at risk. She pulled away.

'Kelly, it was really nice knowing you; you are very nice and sweet, but I don't want to get involved in your world. I forgive you but if you really want me to be happy, let's pretend like we never met, it would be easier that way.' Amyra knew there are paths we take in life that have no return route.

'But_' Kelly didn't get why Amyra was being like that.

'Hope you understand. this is really so complicated.' Amyra sighed before turning her gaze to Calhoun saying,

'You got Kelly back so can I have my mom and freedom back?'

Kelly looked at Calhoun as if daring him to refuse.

'Calhoun you know I'm an adult. You didn't have to do all that. she is my good friend.' Although she hadn't known Amyra for long, she liked her company especially for someone she had just met.

'You promised, you can't go back on your words.' Amyra pressed on.

'BTW where is Treu?' she hoped he wasn't implicated as well. It would be really difficult to deal with considering his current situation.

'He's fine.' Kelly replied nonchalantly.

'Who is that "he"?' Calhoun asked putting emphasis at the pronoun.

'He's my friend. You wouldn't understand anyway I mean what do you know about friendship. Of course, how could I forget; you are a businessman, you only care for profits.' Kelly's words were acidic.

Amyra was surprised at the way Calhoun behaved with Kelly, turns out he could let her tease him.

'You must let me go!'

'I accepted to let you go of course, like I said; I'm a man of my words. But I have an offer for you.' Calhoun uttered in his characteristic lazy drawl. Kelly knew from experience that whatever he meant was no good.

'In case someone wants to get to Amyra, they should go through me first. Brother, have you ever asked me what I want? No! You just simply lay out my life the way you want it. Now I'm asking you for something: Let Amyra go! Please, that's my wish.'

Calhoun felt a headache coming real soon. He pinched his nose bridge.

'Fine! Let her move out before I change my mind.' Actually, he wanted to give her a job because she looked the part.

'Forget you ever met her and do not try anything funny behind my back.'

'Hmmm...' Calhoun responded.

With that Amyra walked out of the foyer, Kelly trailing closely behind her. If inside was heavily guarded, it was an understatement for the outside. There were several guards all armed to the teeth. she mentally chided herself for thinking that she would be able to escape from this place by herself

Just then, a fully grown Samoyed materialized, running towards her menacingly with razor sharp canines exposed and mouth drooling. Shit! It was just too scary. She swallowed and her forehead was immediately covered in beads of perspiration_ she knew she didn't have to run, and she was trying not to but right now she was at her wits end. She took a single step back, but the Samoyed instead advanced several meters towards her. it looked like it had all the intention to tear her apart_ she wouldn't just stand there and let it happen of course. She sprinted back as fast as her legs could carry her as the constant barks reminded her to go even faster.

'A wolf!' Her voice came in a shriek

'Amyra don't run. If you don't run the_' Kelly started

'Yes! It won't come after me_ I Know but_ I-ju-st ca-n't wait to see how it deals with me.'
