Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Transfer Student, Ishida Uryu

Karakura First High School – Classroom

Rukia Kuchiki sat at her desk, staring blankly ahead, muttering to herself:

"Monster, monster… How is this even possible? It's just too much. Why, God, do you favor that brat Nanaya so much? How can you give all your talents to just one person…?"

Even though a whole night had passed, Rukia still couldn't forget what she saw last night—Nanaya using Kidō.

No incantations. Instant casting.

He cast Hadō spells from No. 1 all the way to No. 36, and the entire park was left in ruins. The ground looked like it had been flipped over several times.

Just when Rukia thought he was finished, Nanaya started using Bakudō spells—on her.

Also from No. 1 to No. 36. She ended up completely tied up like a dumpling, helpless as he tickled her for ages.

Then he even used Kaidō healing techniques.

Thinking about how long it took her to learn Kidō made Rukia feel like crying.

"This is too much…"

Even with the support of the noble Kuchiki family, it still took her seven or eight years to learn Kidō spells up to No. 36.

"…"

"You okay? I only tickled you for half an hour yesterday. You haven't recovered yet?"

Nanaya looked at her with an innocent expression.

Rukia was furious inside. Did he really think she was upset because of the tickling?

She took a deep breath, calming herself down. Then, with a bit of curiosity, she turned to Nanaya and asked, "Nanaya, Kurosaki Ichigo took the day off today. Do you know why?"

"Hmm…"

Nanaya turned to look out the window.

He'd been living at Kurosaki Clinic for three years now. Of course, he knew what today meant.

It was the anniversary of Ichigo's mother's death. Every year, the Kurosaki family went to visit her grave. But this year felt… different.

A Few Hours Later

Rukia approached Nanaya, holding a flashing soul pager in her hand.

"Nanaya, let's go! There's a Hollow in Karakura Town."

"In that direction?" Nanaya asked, pointing.

"How do you know!?" Rukia looked at him in shock.

Nanaya just smiled. How did he know? Because that was the location of Ichigo's mother's grave.

Ignoring Rukia's questioning look, Nanaya headed to the rooftop.

Once he confirmed the direction, he lightly tapped the ground and disappeared in a flash—gone before Rukia could react.

She stared in amazement and covered her mouth.

"Shunpo!?"

A Few Moments Later

Nanaya stopped a short distance away from the Kurosaki family grave.

He watched Ichigo, who was in his Shinigami form, fighting a Hollow with a large sword.

Nanaya shook his head. He didn't plan to interfere—this was Ichigo's fight. That Hollow had killed Ichigo's mother, and he needed to face it himself.

Still, Nanaya didn't intend to just stand by and do nothing—Ichigo was clearly struggling.

"Mangekyō Sharingan."

His scarlet eyes spun, casting a silent illusion that hypnotized the Menos Grande fighting Ichigo.

After that, Nanaya flashed away and returned to school.

Ichigo could handle the rest on his own.

Back at school, Rukia immediately questioned him.

"Hey, Nanaya, what were you just doing? That Hollow's Reiatsu is still there!"

"Well, men need their privacy. Please don't invade my freedom…"

"You little brat…"

"…"

And just like that, the incident was over.

Everything returned to normal. The students continued going to school and heading home like always.

But unlike Rukia and Ichigo, Nanaya would visit the Urahara Shop every day, just to tease Yoruichi in her black cat form.

He always brought catnip with him to mess with her.

Two Weeks Later

One morning, the homeroom teacher made an announcement:

"Starting today, Ishida Uryu will be transferring to our class. Please give him a warm welcome."

The class responded with applause.

Nanaya looked up slightly and saw a slim boy in a white uniform standing at the front of the room.

"So that's Ishida Uryu, the Quincy?"

With his Mangekyō Sharingan, Nanaya could sense the strong spiritual pressure coming from him—even though he was still in human form.

"Ah, it's that guy," Ichigo said, pointing at Ishida in surprise.

"What is it?" Nanaya asked, raising an eyebrow. He hadn't expected them to have met already.

"It was after school yesterday," Ichigo explained. "You had gone to see Urahara, so you weren't there."

"We ran into him while tracking a Hollow. He used some strange ability to take it down."

"He also said some weird things, like he had a big grudge against Shinigami."

"Rukia said he's a Quincy who can destroy Menos Grande completely. But apparently, doing that throws off the balance between the human world, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo…"

"…"

"Is that so?" Nanaya narrowed his eyes. Even with his Sharingan, he couldn't fully destroy a Menos Grande.

If Ishida could do that, it might make Soul Society see him as a threat.

But Nanaya quickly dismissed the thought.

After all, in the original story, Ishida wasn't hunted by Soul Society later on, so it seemed like some kind of balance had eventually been reached.

And so, school life went on.

Ishida Uryu walked straight over to Kurosaki Ichigo's desk. He adjusted his glasses and said calmly,"Kurosaki Ichigo, Rukia Kuchiki—you're both Shinigami. Come outside. I want to talk."

"Huh!? Why should I listen to you!?" Ichigo shot back, clearly annoyed.

"Yeah," Rukia added, frowning as she stepped forward. "You're a Quincy. What reason do you have to come looking for us?"

Ishida didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked around at the nearby students and said flatly,"I don't like talking in front of a crowd. I just transferred here and don't want to draw attention. And I'm guessing you two don't want anyone to find out you're Shinigami, either."

"You jerk…" Ichigo muttered through gritted teeth, glaring at him. But Ishida didn't seem to care.

"Fine," Rukia said at last. "We'll go with you." She was curious what this Quincy really wanted.

"Wow, seriously?" Nanaya cut in, looking at the group with a helpless expression. "Am I invisible or something?"

He was standing right there, but none of them had acknowledged him.

Ishida glanced at Nanaya, focusing for a moment on his eyes, then said coldly,"I'm only here to speak with Shinigami. People with some minor ability don't count."

"Huh?" Nanaya's eyebrow twitched. He activated his Mangekyō Sharingan, the red patterns spinning in his eyes."You sure about that?"

Nanaya wasn't just some minor ability user—he was stronger than Ichigo.

But clearly, Ishida had no idea. He summoned his spiritual power, which started to glow in his hands and form into a spirit bow and arrow.

"I'm sure. You're not a Shinigami. So no matter how strong you are, this doesn't concern you."

He noticed Ichigo and Rukia staring at him oddly.

"What? Why are you both looking at me like that?"

The way they were staring at him—like he was an idiot—made Ishida feel confused and uncomfortable.

Shinigami… still as arrogant as ever.

"Nothing," Ichigo replied, shaking his head with a sigh. He looked at Ishida with pity.

You really don't get it, he thought. Looking down on Nanaya? If you try anything funny, he'll destroy you.

Rukia was thinking the same thing.

The three of them left the classroom together to talk somewhere more private.

"Let them go," Nanaya said to himself with a smirk. "They're under control anyway."

He held up a small packet of high-grade catnip he'd just bought, smiling to himself as he happily strolled out of the classroom.

Outside Urahara's Shop

As soon as she saw Nanaya approaching, the black cat Yoruichi arched her back and glared at him.

"Meow… If you try to hit me with Kidō again, I swear I'll fight back. I don't care if you've got restrictions or not—I'll beat you down…"

"Meow…"

But halfway through her warning, Yoruichi paused, sniffed the air, and let out a dreamy, contented meow.

"That smell… so good…"

Nanaya grinned, holding out the fresh catnip.

"Come on. Try it. This one's brand new."
