Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Heartbeat Of Big Kidō Tessai Tsukabishi

"Well, this is awkward…"

Nanaya laughed nervously.

It's really hard to explain when you've secretly copied your teacher's technique and got caught red-handed.

But Urahara Kisuke, never one to let chaos go to waste, cupped his hands around his mouth and cheerfully added fuel to the fire:

"Miss Yoruichi, it's not just that. He actually lied to you. His eyes—those eyes—can perfectly copy other people's abilities."

"In other words, all that sad puppy-face and helpless expression he gave you earlier? Completely faked. He's been playing you this whole time."

Urahara's voice took on a teasing tone. "Oh, and if I'm not wrong, he probably learned that Kidō spell you just cast too."

Nanaya's face darkened.Damn it, would it kill you to shut up just once? He was planning to sponge more high-level Kidō off this gullible woman!

"Miss Yoruichi, I can explain—"

But before he could finish, Yoruichi's gaze turned deadly. Her eyes narrowed with a flash of killing intent.

"Qiye," she said, voice low and sharp, "is what he said true?"

"Uhhh…"

SWOOSH!

She didn't wait for an answer.

"Wait a minute! You weren't that fast just now!" Nanaya yelled, pointing at her in shock.

"Shut up!" Yoruichi barked, now truly furious.

She wasn't called the Flash Goddess for nothing—her Shunpo was unmatched. What Nanaya saw earlier was her restrained version. Now, she was moving at full speed.

With no other choice, Nanaya activated his own version of Shunpo.

The two clashed across the battlefield, figures flickering like twin meteors streaking through the air. But it quickly became obvious:

Yoruichi was faster.

"Damn… my body's too heavy. Even if I copied her technique, I can't match her at full speed," Nanaya thought, gritting his teeth.

Then he made a split-second decision—he stopped running.

Mangekyō Sharingan spun in his left eye."Amaterasu."

Black flames roared to life, engulfing the area between them.

But Yoruichi didn't hesitate. She wrapped herself in Reiatsu and charged through the sea of black fire.

Seeing the flaming figure charging straight at him, Nanaya instinctively raised his hand.

"Bakudō #30 – Shitotsu Sansen!"

Three golden shards of light shaped like fanged arrows materialized and pinned Yoruichi to the nearby wall.

"SHUA!"

She was stuck, restrained by the triple-point Kidō spell.

She glanced at the glowing shards on her body, then glared at Nanaya.

"You... actually copied the Kidō I just used."

Her voice trembled with anger.

"I'm going to kill you!"

She shattered the binding spell with a burst of spiritual pressure.

Nanaya didn't hesitate. His right hand flicked forward again.

"Bakudō #21 – Sekienton!"

A thick cloud of red smoke exploded out, masking everything in a crimson haze.

Taking advantage of the smokescreen, Nanaya bolted toward the exit, using Shunpo to slip away.

But—

"Leaving already, Mr. Nanaya?" came a cheerful voice.

Urahara Kisuke stepped out from the smoke to block the exit, folding fan in hand. "I think Miss Yoruichi might want to have a nice, long talk with you."

Nanaya glanced behind him.

Yoruichi was charging again, her Reiatsu flaring with rage.

He grimaced.

"A talk? Are you sure about that!?"

Twenty minutes later…

Nanaya sat on the floor, rubbing his bruised cheek.

"…That was too much," he muttered. "She used fists and kicks. And she still owes me a Kidō lesson, damn it…"

Yoruichi stood nearby, smugly cracking her knuckles.

"You wanna say that again, huh?"

Nanaya quickly waved her off. "No, no. Forget it."

He sighed and let it go.

In the end, he'd learned a lot from her—Kidō, Shunpo, maybe even more in the future. No need to get hung up on a little beating.

As he made his way toward the exit of the basement, Tessai Tsukabishi stepped forward, his voice calm but curious:

"Mr. Nanaya… can your eyes really copy any Kidō spell just by watching it?"

Nanaya thought for a moment and nodded."So far… yeah. I haven't run into one I couldn't copy."

Tessai's eyes gleamed with interest.

After Nanaya and Yoruichi left, Urahara turned to Tessai with a knowing smile.

"What is it? Feeling inspired?"

Tessai nodded solemnly.

"Yes, Manager. His eyes… they're perfect for mastering Kidō. I've never seen talent like that."

"You know as well as I do—in Soul Society, hardly anyone devotes themselves to the study of Kidō. And those who do rarely take it to the highest level…"

"That's why, after I defected, there's been no second Grand Kidō Chief in over a hundred years…"

Urahara Kisuke nodded silently.

In Seireitei, there was a long-standing rule—only Shinigami who had mastered Bankai could become Captains. While the title of Grand Kidō Chief stood equal in status to a Captain, it lacked the same prestige in the eyes of most Shinigami.

Everyone wanted the blade and glory. Few walked the lonely path of Kidō.

But now—Nanaya had appeared. A prodigy whose eyes allowed him to instantly comprehend even the most advanced spells just by watching them once.

It was only natural that someone like Tessai, the former Grand Kidō Chief, would feel moved. Too moved.

Dangerously so.

Urahara tapped his fan against his chin in thought, then shook his head."Let's wait. We still don't know enough about Nanaya. His nature, his heart... his intentions. It's too early to draw conclusions."

"I understand."

Tessai took a deep breath and nodded. The spark in his eyes dimmed, and the calm steadiness of the seasoned master returned.

"I just got carried away. It's been so long since I saw a soul so... perfectly suited for Kidō."

He paused, then smiled faintly.

"We've got time. Shinigami live long lives, after all."

Outside Urahara's shop...

Yoruichi, now in her black cat form, strolled ahead gracefully, her tail flicking as she walked.

"Hmph. Remember, kid, I'm very strong. Don't take advantage of me in this form again, or I'll beat you senseless—again."

Behind her, Nanaya raised his hand without a word.

"Bakudō #4 – Hainawa."

A flash of light. An invisible rope shot out and wrapped tightly around the smug little cat.

"Meow!?" Yoruichi blinked in stunned disbelief.

Nanaya crouched down with a smile and pulled a green catnip ball from his sleeve.

"Miss Yoruichi, look what I've got~"

"MEOW!!!"

A moment later—

Nanaya dusted his hands and stood up with a relaxed stretch.

"Ahh... that was satisfying."

He looked down at the slightly dazed black cat who was now tied up, twitching faintly from the catnip assault.

"Cool."

With a playful wave, he disappeared using Shunpo, leaving behind only the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Moments later—

"URAHARA KISUKE! TESSAI TSUKABISHI!"Yoruichi's furious, muffled voice echoed from inside the shop."Catch that damn brat!! I'm going to claw his smug face off! Meow meow meow—!!"

Kurosaki Clinic, later that day.

Nanaya stepped through the sliding door, looking perfectly refreshed. As he entered, he noticed a yellow ragdoll waddling around the living room.

He raised an eyebrow, then turned toward Rukia and Ichigo, who were mid-argument.

"Yo, Rukia, Ichigo. Looks like something... interesting happened here while I was gone. Who's the plushie?"

With the insight of his Mangekyō Sharingan, he instantly saw the truth—a Gikon, a modified soul.

The ragdoll threw up a salute and declared proudly:

"Nice to meet you, Nanaya! The name's Kon! I'll be the one to defeat you and steal away Sister Rukia's he—"

BANG!

Rukia's face was red with embarrassment as she stomped Kon flat under her foot.

"Shut up!! I will literally kill you!"

"OKAY OKAY I GET IT—!!" Kon flailed under her sandal. "Rukia belongs to Nanaya, I won't steal her—!"

CRACK!

Her foot drove down harder.

"WHO BELONGS TO WHO!?"

Nanaya stifled a laugh and scratched his head.

"Alright, alright. Enough plushie abuse. Rukia—about that book you gave me? I've finished studying it."

He gave her a sly smile."Want to find a place where I can show you how good my Kidō has gotten?"

Rukia blinked in shock, still standing on Kon.

"So fast?!"
