Chapter 24 - Prophecy Fulfilled

The side channels and waterways were extremely narrow. To search them, they'd have to dig them up.

Moreover, the digging would take place at the base of the Doomsday Squad. Wouldn't that mean tearing the entire base apart?

On the very first day at the base, they were already considering dismantling it?

Bertram decided to share his thoughts with the rest of the Doomsday Squad.

Immediately, the entire squad fell silent.

Building a base was no easy task. The materials used were top-notch, and every aspect of the setup had been meticulously planned and executed. Now, they were being asked to tear it all apart.

Given that no signs of the demonic blood octopus had been found in the main channels, the likelihood of it being in the side channels, like Bertram suggested, was very low.

"Captain, what do you think we should do?" Whitney asked.

"Dig!" Tristian gritted his teeth.

"If Bertram says he saw something, then we dig!"

"But Captain, this base..." Ryder said, feeling a pang of regret.

"I feel it too, but Bertram is now one of us. Even if he's only been here for a day, we need to trust him as a team member!" Tristian shook his head.

"Exactly. Since he's part of the team now, even if he's just a mascot, we should trust Bertram!" Tabitha said, striding over with her long legs.

Tevin nodded silently in agreement.

"Alright, let's turn this base upside down!" Tristian laughed heartily.

The group made their way back to the Doomsday Squad's base along the main road. Standing before the base, everyone felt a mix of emotions.

"Tabitha, let's get started!" Tristian ordered.

Tabitha, a metal manipulator and mechanical genius, might only be at a C+ level in terms of power, but when it came to sheer destructive capability, no one in the team could match her. Even Tristian, a B-level, couldn't compare to a third of her power.

Tabitha pulled out small devices from a metal box she carried. These were small metal containers, which she placed strategically at key points beneath the base.

She handed the activation device to Bertram.

"This is the moment to see if your prophecy is accurate. You should witness it yourself!" Tabitha said with a smile.

Bertram took the activation device, feeling a mix of determination and anxiety.

The infinite life simulation couldn't be wrong. Now it was time to see if his deductions were correct.

"Beep beep!" Bertram pressed the button.

The metal containers responded, sending shockwaves beneath the base. Cracks began to spread from around the containers.

The entire foundation of the Doomsday Squad's base was shattered.

The underground water channels were exposed to everyone's view.

No one in the squad let their guard down. Their eyes scanned the exposed water channels quickly.

This was an operation that came at the cost of an entire base.

From the conference room to the restroom to the hallway...

At this moment, Bertram's nerves were on edge. Blowing up their entire base and finding nothing would be unacceptable.

Amidst the rubble and debris, water sprayed everywhere as a tentacle of the Scarlet Devil Octopus suddenly retracted, darting through the underground sewers in a desperate attempt to escape.

"Demon Blood Octopus!" The members of the Doomsday Squad gasped in disbelief, as if they were dreaming.

Bertram's prophetic vision had come true. In a city where otherworldly creatures should not exist, there was indeed a Demon Blood Octopus hiding.

"Don't let that thing get away!" Tristian was the first to react.

He leaped into the air, raising his fists. Powerful energy gathered in his hands, forming two tornadoes that slammed into the ground where the octopus had just retreated.

The ground exploded, dirt and rocks flying everywhere. In the exposed crater, a fully Scarlet-colored octopus with eight writhing tentacles and a devilish face stared at the squad with its sinister eyes.

"Freeze!" Whitney's cold voice rang out as an icy chill emanated from her, enveloping the exposed octopus.

Frost spread rapidly over its scarlet skin, encasing the entire creature in ice. The Demon Blood Octopus froze in place, looking like a grotesque statue.

Crack! The ice held for about two seconds before it started to fracture.

"Hmph!" Tabitha's voice came from beside a newly appeared armored vehicle. From the front of the vehicle, three rocket launchers rose and fired.

The rockets exploded around the still partially frozen octopus, engulfing it in flames.

A series of deafening booms followed, and a cloud of black smoke rose. As the smoke cleared, a heavily injured Demon Blood Octopus lay in a deep crater.

The demonic mouth continued to emit eerie "ee-ya, ee-ya" sounds.

"Well done!" Bertram felt a surge of joy.

The entire Doomsday Squad was here. In just three seconds, he and his five teammates had taken down a Devil's Blood Octopus.

Wait a minute...

Where was the notification from the Infinite Life Simulation?

Bertram was puzzled.

Just then, from a sewer grate on a nearby street, scarlet tentacles burst through the cover, lunging straight at Bertram.

What the heck?! Another Devil's Blood Octopus?!

And why was this Devil's Blood Octopus so fixated on him?

In the Infinite Life Simulation, it had chosen to target him, and now it was doing the same. Did it really need to be this persistent and focused?

Several blood-red tentacles shot toward Bertram, getting closer and closer.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed by, leaving streaks of black light in its wake.

The tentacles attacking Bertram were severed by the black light and fell to the ground.

From the sewer, anguished cries echoed as a massive, scarlet, soft-bodied creature burst through the surface. Its demonic mouth roared at the group.

The remaining tentacles smashed the surrounding buildings.

At the same time, Ryder, standing nearby, crossed his arms in front of him. Circles of white chains formed from his movements, binding the rampaging Devil's Blood Octopus tightly.

"Die!" Tristian descended from the sky, landing a heavy punch on the Devil Blood Octopus's head.

Instantly, the ground shook with a thunderous roar as the creature was smashed into the earth like a cannonball.

Tristian landed nearby, while Tevin landed next to Bertram.

"Are you... okay?" Tevin asked quietly.

"Yes, thank you, I'm fine!" Bertram sighed in relief.

In his mind, the prompt from the Infinite Life Simulation system appeared.
