"I saw it at our Doomsday Squad base!" Bertram quickly added.
Tristian: "..."
Whitney: "..."
Ryder: "..."
Tevin: "..."
Tabitha: "..."
"Bertram, are you sure you're not joking?" Tristian composed himself before addressing Bertram.
"I'm not joking. I really saw it. In the hallway, there's a sewer pipe, and a tentacle with a ring of teeth from a Scarlet creature came out of it!" Bertram said seriously.
The group fell silent.
Firstly, Bertram was a seer with prophetic abilities. He had successfully predicted several events before, which they had all verified. So, Bertram's words shouldn't be doubted.
But at the same time, this was Doomsday City. The construction of this city was the result of countless people's efforts, spanning over a hundred years, and involving more than one S-class ability user. It had finally been built successfully.
Since its completion, there had never been an invasion by interdimensional creatures. Doomsday City was humanity's stronghold, the last line of defense, the source of everyone's confidence.
But now, someone was telling them that an interdimensional creature had appeared within Doomsday City. This perfectly defended city had a breach for interdimensional beings.
The five members of the Doomsday Squad exchanged glances, unsure of how to respond to Bertram's revelation.
On one hand, there was Bertram, the possessor of prophetic abilities, and on the other, the long-standing authority of human history.
"This..." The team members were at a loss for words.
"Guessing blindly won't help us determine who's right or wrong. Since Bertram says he saw it, let's check out the underground sewers and see if there's really a problem!" Tristian spoke up.
"Usually, the scenes predicted by prophetic abilities happen soon after. Let's head into the sewers and see if there's that demonic blood octopus!" Tristian continued.
"Of course, I hope Bertram's prediction is wrong!" Tristian added.
Because if it were true, it would be bad news for humanity.
Bertram felt a bit touched at the moment. The appearance of extra-dimensional beings in the City of Doom was something even he found hard to believe, despite seeing it in his life simulation.
If anyone else had heard it, they would've laughed at Bertram, but the members of the Doomsday Squad were willing to believe him and take the matter seriously.
"Our base's underground sewers are actually connected to the city's main sewer system. If there's really a demonic blood octopus, it must have invaded through the sewers!"
One thing Tristian didn't mention was that all the sewer entrances were covered with fine metal nets. These nets were made by A-level metal ability users and were layered at least a hundred times.
No extra-dimensional being could invade through the sewers.
"Yeah, if we find the main route nearby, we can delve into the sewers for investigation!" Whitney said.
The Doomsday Squad quickly formulated a plan.
"Bertram, are you coming down with us?" Tristian looked at Bertram.
Bertram hesitated for a moment.
Under normal circumstances, Bertram would definitely choose to stay far behind and cheer for Tristian and the others from a safe distance. However, this time, things were strange.
If he stayed out of it, he might not be able to reshape his destiny successfully.
"Alright, I'll go down with you guys!" Bertram said.
"Don't worry, with us around, even if there's a multi-dimensional demon octopus down there, we'll keep you safe!" Tristian assured him.
As a B-rank strength holder, he had the right to make such a promise.
"Okay, let me get ready!" Bertram went back to wake up the Seven-Star Phantom Death Butterfly, which was sleeping on the storage box.
The six-member Doomsday Squad left the base together and headed to the nearest main underground sewer line. They opened a large door and climbed in.
The entire underground sewer system of Doomsday City was about ten feet wide and ten feet high, shaped like an arch. The center was the waterway, with narrow paths on either side for garbage collectors to walk on.
Tristian and the others walked along these narrow paths, inspecting the underground sewer.
The whole place was damp, messy, and reeked of a foul odor.
The six of them were very quiet. Even though there was no immediate danger, Bertram could feel the caution of each of his teammates beside him.
This was the quality of the Doomsday Squad!
Bertram marveled, wondering when he would have the strength like theirs and not just be a tag-along.
While being a tag-along was comfortable, who wouldn't want to be self-reliant?
The six-member squad searched the entire underground sewer for nearly six hours, almost covering all the main routes.
However, they found nothing.
"If there were any interdimensional creatures here, they would have left some traces of their presence, no matter what species they are!" Tristian didn't spell it out directly, but everyone understood his implication: there might not be any interdimensional creatures in the sewer.
Bertram frowned. This didn't make sense. Could it be that the demon blood octopus entered the sewer later, and they had come too early?
Bertram started to get anxious. Not finding any traces of interdimensional creatures meant the Doomsday Squad would gradually lose trust in him and begin to doubt whether he really had prophetic abilities.
Was his role as the squad's lucky charm and the big boss's sidekick, a position he had just acquired, about to end in disappointment after only one day?
Without the Doomsday Squad's help, facing the powerful interdimensional demon blood octopus alone meant certain death for Bertram.
"Let's search the side tunnels!" Bertram suddenly remembered something.
In fact, until July 2nd, no interdimensional creatures had been discovered. It was only when the creature broke through the sewer entrance and killed Bertram nearby that it was finally noticed.
The sewer was cleaned daily by designated personnel, yet no abnormalities or deaths had been reported.
This suggested that the interdimensional creature was deliberately hiding its tracks. If that were the case, it made sense that it wouldn't frequent the main tunnels where people often passed by.
The demon blood octopus, being a soft-bodied creature, could easily hide in the narrower side tunnels.
The more Bertram thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
If it was hiding in the side tunnels, then...
So, which side path is the most likely?
In the entire City of Doom, it's impossible to search through thousands of side paths.
The Doomsday Squad couldn't manage that.
If you were hiding in one place for a long time and one day you no longer had to hide, what would you do first?
You'd find the nearest exit and come out from there.
Therefore, the location of that interdimensional creature is most likely in the sewers right below the Doomsday Squad's base!
