Chapter 6: A Troubled Family
A moment later, another person hurriedly entered the room. It wasn't hard to recognize him—it was the devilish lawyer, Nguyễn Thế Anh.
Unlike the terrifying figure she had seen the other night, today he appeared in a neatly tucked-in white dress shirt, exuding a scholarly and refined air. His face was gentle, his smile warm and friendly, and his deep eyes carried a sorrowful depth that was oddly captivating.
This must be the face he showed to the public.
Hải Vân instinctively took a step back in alarm.
As soon as he saw her, he approached and gently patted her head.
"Ngọc Linh, I was so worried about you. I'm just glad you're okay."
She froze for a few seconds, almost deceived by his kind demeanor. But as soon as she regained her senses, she dodged slightly to the side, avoiding his hand from contaminating her head. Without thinking, she muttered:
"I'm hungry."
The moment those words left her lips, the entire room erupted into action. Everyone immediately stood up, rushing to prepare a grand feast.
At the dining table, she found herself seated between the beautiful woman and the devilish lawyer. The woman kept piling food onto her plate, each time saying something like:
"My son, eat more meat to stay strong, eat more vegetables for beautiful skin…"
Meanwhile, Nguyễn Thế Anh occasionally smiled warmly.
"Mother, you're going to spoil him."
Hải Vân stared at the woman in shock.
This young-looking woman already has a fully grown son?!
She found it hard to believe.
Within minutes, her energy was replenished, and she scanned the lavish table with indifference. The feast was filled with rare delicacies, yet there was one oddly ordinary dish placed directly in front of her—a balut egg.
Nguyễn Thế Anh calmly peeled the egg, placed it in a small bowl, and pushed it toward her.
"Eat up, little brother. The more you eat, the faster you'll recover."
Hải Vân stared at the balut egg, suspicion creeping into her mind.
It's best not to eat anything he gives me. Who knows if he poisoned it?
She pushed the bowl back toward him.
"One should only eat two balut eggs per week. Eating too many accelerates aging. I've already had mine this week, so I can't eat any more."
Everyone at the table looked at her in surprise.
She blinked innocently back at them.
Did I say something wrong?
The beautiful woman quickly reached out to stroke her head.
"I never expected my son to be so health-conscious. You used to demand one every day, no matter how much we tried to stop you."
She gave a silly smile but secretly glanced toward the devilish lawyer.
He had the faintest smirk at the corner of his lips.
