Chapter 26 - Jiraya Sensei

"Well yes, I am! The legendary Sannin of Konoha—Jiraiya!"

"Oh wow... but if you're a legendary Sannin, why were you peeping on women?"

"Hey, kid! I told you—it was for my research!"

"Hey, Jiraiya-sama, let me introduce myself properly."

"Hello, Jiraiya-sama. My name is Haruto Uzumaki. I also have a twin brother, but he's training with a not-so-experienced Special Jōnin the Hokage assigned."

"What do you mean by not-so-experienced?"

"I asked my brother—his name's Naruto Uzumaki—to test our sensei. He's been deliberately failing jutsu so our teacher won't make us learn something else."

"Wait, let me get this straight," Jiraiya said.

"You have the God's Eye—called the Rinnegan, if you didn't know—and a Special Jōnin teaching you two isn't enough and you're greedy for more?"

"We're actually Kakashi Hatake's students, but since our other teammate can't have the privilege of training under someone else, we were reassigned." Haruto continued"and everyone is greedy for power, right"

Jiraiya muttered, "fair point..." then jiraya thought and spoke"You kids' names sound familiar... and your hair... You're Uzumaki. Wait—"

"Are you... a Jinchūriki?"

"Umm... a what now?" Haruto played dumb as

Jiraiya gulped, he glanced at Haruto's stomach as he stretched the shirt up seeing the sealing jutsu on his stomach

These kids are Minato's... and Kushina's...

He fell silent, then spoke with purpose, "How about I become your and your brother's new sensei?"

"You!? That would be awesome!" Haruto replied enthusiastically. "Then let's go to my brother now!"

"But wouldn't that mess up my schedule?" Jiraiya grinned.

Haruto grinned back, "How about this: my brother trains with our clones, and we do research!"

"Not you, kid," Jiraiya said flatly.

"Why not, Jiraiya-sama?" Haruto pouted.

"You're a kid. How old are you?"

"Twelve. I'll turn thirteen in October."

"Hm... August, September, October—three whole months left before you're officially thirteen."

"Yeah."

"Then you can't watch it, kid."

"C'mon, Jiraiya-sensei, I could describe it better with my Rinnegan! No one will even notice."

Jiraiya paused when Haruto called him sensei. Memories of Nagato flashed through his mind. A gentle smile formed as he nodded unconsciously, "Deal! But you can't back out now!"

"Wha—what!? I was talking about something else!"

"No, don't back out now, Jiraiya-sensei!"

Jiraiya sighed. "Alright, alright. But it wasn't me who brought you, okay?"

"Deal. I'm a man of my word!"

"More like a boy of your word."

Jiraiya looked around. "Anyway... where are we?"

"Oh, the forest behind the Hokage faces."

Jiraiya nodded as Haruto placed a hand on him, teleporting them near Ebisu and Naruto.

"The blond one is my brother," Haruto said.

"Does he have the Rinnegan too?" Jiraiya asked.

Haruto shook his head. Jiraiya frowned. "Then why does he have blond hair?"

"I dunno... maybe from our parents?"

Jiraiya nodded again and approached the two.

"Ugh, Naruto, you can't do anything right!" Ebisu sighed, then felt a tap on his shoulder.

"Mind handing this kid over to me?"

"Um... and you are?" Ebisu took a defensive stance

Jiraiya lifted his headband. "I'm Jiraiya—the legendary Sannin."

"Oh! Jiraiya-sama!" Ebisu immediately bowed. "I'll report this to the Hokage right away!"

"Tell him I'm training the twins," Jiraiya added.

Ebisu nodded and left.

"Alright boys, let's go." Haruto leaned toward Jiraiya and whispered, "He doesn't know about my powers yet, Jiraiya-sama. I don't want him to feel weak just because I'm strong."

Jiraiya nodded as the trio headed to—

—a ramen stall.

They sat down to eat as Jiraiya asked, "So, introduce yourself, kid."

Naruto, mouth full, swallowed and grinned. "I'm Naruto Uzumaki! I'll be Hokage one day, dattebayo!"

"And what's your catchphrase?" Jiraiya smirked.

Haruto shook his head while Jiraiya mumbled, "You didn't inherit that from your mother, huh..."

"What? You knew my mother?" Haruto whispered.

"No—no, I didn't!" Jiraiya said quickly.

"Jeez, then why're you so loud?"

Jiraiya turned back to his ramen in silence. Teuchi, behind the counter, narrowed his eyes knowingly.

These kids... are the Fourth's...

After the meal, they strolled through the village streets.

"Jiraiya-sensei, why don't you come stay at our place?" Haruto offered. "We have a spare room."

"Hmm... I doubt it's even clean. Bet it smells like socks," Jiraiya teased.

Naruto climbed the stairs to their apartment and opened the door.

The moment Jiraiya entered, he was met with a pleasant aroma of flowers.

"No way... this is your house?" he asked, surprised.

Naruto slipped off his sandals and went to the washroom.

Jiraiya explored. The kitchen was spotless. One room was clearly used often, filled with the scent of dandelions. It was neatly organized—no mess anywhere.

He entered the spare room and was greeted by, "That'll be your room, sensei."

On the desk, he found sketches—Rinnegan patterns and what looked like variations of Mangekyō Sharingan.

"What's this?" he asked.

"Oh, I figured some of it out after talking to Uchiha Sasuke."

"Uchiha?"

Haruto nodded and handed him another drawing—one of Naruto and himself, standing proudly.

"Nice drawing," Jiraiya said, amused.

"Thanks! When I was younger, I drew a lot. My parents encouraged it."

"Your parents?" Jiraiya blinked.

Haruto laughed. "Slip of the tongue. I call Naruto my parent because he's older."

"Oh... okay."

Jiraiya continued browsing. Haruto spoke up, "Hey, Jiraiya-sensei... how about I illustrate your novel? We could publish it in a bookstore—with actual literature and artwork."

Jiraiya grew quiet, weighing the idea. Finally, he nodded. "Fair enough."

Suddenly, Naruto burst in. "What're you two doing?"

"I showed Jiraiya-sensei my drawings," Haruto replied.

"Oh! Sensei, my brother's a really good artist! He even drew a picture of what I'd look like when I'm old!"

"Really?" Jiraiya chuckled.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Naruto nodded eagerly.

The house once again filled with warmth as the three of them laughed, talked, and shared their dreams.
