"You, you can't kill me..."
Dusana trembled all over, struggling to retreat inch by inch, leaving a long trail of blood on the ground.
Envy's grin widened uncontrollably, his footsteps matching Dusana's retreat, advancing slowly, step by step.
He was toying with Dusana.
"You... you kill me, the Meteor City Elder Council... will find you, and retaliate against you."
Dusana seemed to lose all strength, leaning against the wall, speaking disjointedly, gasping for breath.
"Don't worry."
Envy squatted in front of Dusana, grinning.
"If you live, you'll die sooner or later."
"But if you die, you'll live forever."
Envy's right hand pressed against Dusana's rising and falling chest, his grin growing more savage. Dusana, terrified by Envy's actions, continuously pressed himself against the wall.
"Pfft!"
Dusana felt a sharp pain in his chest. He looked down.
He saw Envy's right hand had directly torn open a bloody hole in his chest, continuously fumbling for something inside.
"Ugh... ugh..."
Dusana's mouth hung open, his hands weakly grasping Envy's right arm, trying to make him stop.
"Found it."
Envy's face lit up with glee. With a savage grin and a wet "splurch," he violently pulled his arm out of the chest, bringing out a large amount of blood.
"Thump~ thump~"
Dusana's eyes bulged. He stared at Envy's right palm, which was clutching a heart that was still "thump-thump" beating.
"Here..."
"For you."
Before the words were out, Envy, with a savage grin, placed the heart into Dusana's palm, took his hands, and carefully held his heart for him.
"Hold it tight, don't drop it."
Dusana stared at the heart in his palm. His eyeballs seemed about to pop out of their sockets, and he stopped breathing.
After Dusana died, Envy searched him, taking his phone, wallet, keys, and other items.
Illumi and Envy cleaned up the secret passage. They pressed the mechanism, and with a "rumble," stepped out through the stone door.
"Elder."
The guards at the entrance immediately bowed to Envy in greeting. They casually glanced at Illumi, without suspicion.
"Prepare a car for me, I'm going out."
Envy instructed them, making the guards pause in surprise, not understanding why the Elder would ask them for a task, but they still obeyed and fetched a car.
Just like that, Illumi and Envy openly left the church, only stopping the car when they reached the outskirts of Meteor City.
"Familiarize yourself with this person's influence in Meteor City as quickly as possible."
Illumi sat in the passenger seat, instructing Envy, who had already gotten out of the car.
"Although I'm not relying on you much, don't mess it up easily."
"We need to accumulate power from Meteor City's factions."
Envy let out a displeased "Tch," and grinned.
"Nagging much? I know what to do without you telling me."
Illumi looked at Envy's nonchalant expression, still feeling somewhat uneasy.
"Your current power is still very weak. I'll share some with you."
Illumi suddenly said. Envy raised an eyebrow, gazing at Illumi with a hint of suspicion. But Illumi's face remained placid, revealing nothing.
"That would be more than welcome."
Envy grinned. Illumi closed his eyes, and with a "boom," a massive amount of Nen suddenly surged from his body.
"This is Nen?"
Envy looked at the large amount of translucent aura surging from Illumi's body and instinctively reached out to touch it.
"Whoosh!"
The white aura on Illumi's body abruptly turned a pink color, representing envy. It transformed into fleeting phantoms, drilling into Envy's mouth, eyes, ears, and nostrils.
"Ugh!"
Envy's entire body stiffened, trembling violently as he allowed the massive amount of Nen to drill into his body.
Illumi opened his eyes, watching Envy absorb and balance the Nen within his body, a slight smile playing on his lips.
After a long while, Envy's body stopped trembling. He opened his eyes, looked down at the Nen covering his body, and revealed a savage grin.
"This is... power."
Illumi gazed at Envy, seeing rough pink ropes extending from his body, connecting the two of them.
This was the restraint, and the power, that Illumi had exchanged for his own emotions.
Illumi raised his right hand. With a "whoosh," it transformed into a real blade. With a thought, a large amount of Nen covered the blade.
"A convenient ability."
Illumi murmured with emotion. He then tightly closed his eyes, and a figure flashed through his mind.
A white light swept upwards from his body. He opened his eyes and looked into the rearview mirror; he had completely returned to his original appearance.
"This face, it's been a while."
Illumi looked at himself in the mirror: a young man of twenty-four, with short black hair, dressed in a suit, and a hint of dark circles under his eyes.
"I'm leaving."
Getting into the driver's seat, Illumi turned to wave at Envy, who was staring at him blankly, then stepped on the gas pedal and drove off.
"I feel like I got the short end of the stick."
Envy muttered softly, looking at the car gradually disappearing into the horizon. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
The United States of Edin, Southern Border, Blanca City.
Illumi sat on the large bed in the hotel room, using his computer to send the photos of Spirrow's corpse, taken with his phone, to the client's email.
"Beep..."
Within a minute, the other party contacted Illumi by phone, asking if he had obtained a golden mask.
"No, he died cleanly, didn't say a word."
Illumi replied. The female voice on the other end paused but didn't hang up.
Illumi guessed she might be covering the phone and talking to someone, or seeking instructions.
"Mr. Illumi, this is Sylvia's grandfather."
"I am willing to offer 50 billion Jenny for the golden mask you possess."
The voice on the other end changed to that of a deep-voiced old man, who directly offered 50 billion, as if he was very certain that Illumi had the mask.
"I told you, I didn't get the mask you speak of."
"Transfer the money to the Zoldyck's account immediately."
Illumi's tone became harder. He hung up the phone directly after speaking.
"Beep..."
After a long while, Illumi, who was cultivating, heard his phone vibrate. He picked it up and saw it was a notification for a commission payment.
The United States of Edin, Praya Province, Gilf City.
"Grandpa, that little brat must be lying."
Sylvia Sigrit sat on the sofa, looking at a tall man standing by the window, saying angrily.
"Then what do you want?"
"To settle accounts with him? Or to snatch it back from him?"
The man's back was to Sylvia. He said in a deep voice.
The man wore a luxurious suit, was tall and well-built, with white hair, and his hands were clasped behind his back. Half of his face was covered in burn scars.
He was Demetrius Sigrit, the patriarch of the Sigrit family and the current mayor of Gilf City.
"This is a critical period. The mayoral election is about to take place."
"Don't cause any new trouble at a time like this."
Demetrius looked out the window at the massive city bathed in neon lights, a red gleam flashing in his eyes.
"Nothing is more important than my position."
