"This is the secret treasure."
Illumi suppressed the longing in his heart, frowning as he looked at the mask in his hand.
"Thump..."
As Illumi squatted before Spirrow's corpse, pondering, footsteps echoed from behind him.
"Hm..."
Dusana's expression changed upon seeing Illumi's back. He almost cried out, quickly clamping his lips shut.
Holding his breath, one hand clutching his chest, the other leaning against the wall, he slowly retreated.
"Tell me, who is Spirrow?"
Illumi suddenly spoke. Dusana, who was quietly backing away, froze. Fine beads of sweat continuously trickled down his forehead.
"He's not from Meteor City, is he?"
Dusana's pupils trembled as he saw the golden mask in Illumi's hand.
"You... you killed Spirrow!"
Dusana's voice trembled, his legs feeling weak.
He had thought the loud bang earlier was Spirrow venting by hitting a wall. And there was only one sound, after which it became quiet.
He had thought Spirrow had left, but he didn't expect someone to have killed him.
From the moment Spirrow left to the sound of the bang, it was less than thirty seconds. Yet he had waited a full three minutes before deciding to get up and leave.
This meant that this youth had killed Spirrow within thirty seconds.
"Spirrow Isaac, that's the name he kept hidden."
Realizing this, Dusana resigned himself. He endured the intense pain and answered Illumi's question.
"He was originally the young master of a wealthy family, surrounded by champagne and beautiful women every day."
"But ever since his mother died, everything changed."
The Isaac family resided in Gilf City, Praya Province.
Seven years ago, Spirrow's mother died. Twenty-five-year-old Sylvia Sigrit married his father, becoming his stepmother.
For the initial period, although the stepmother and he didn't get along happily, they were somewhat harmonious.
Until one day, Spirrow overheard her conversation with her grandfather. They planned to kill his father and him to claim everything from the Isaac family.
Spirrow, having discovered the secret, wanted to tell his father but was stopped by the butler.
The butler informed him that his father had already investigated everything.
His mother hadn't died in an accident, but was murdered, and the culprits were precisely the Sigrit family.
And now, it was time for the Isaac and Sigrit families to break ties. His father also intended to act against the Sigrit family.
Spirrow's heart settled. So his father had already arranged everything.
Under the butler's arrangements, he left Gilf City to avoid becoming a burden to his father.
He waited for a month, but what he received was news of his father's death in a car accident.
That day, Spirrow locked himself in his room for a full month. When he pushed the door open, his appearance had drastically changed.
From a vibrant twenty-year-old youth, he had transformed into his current insane state.
The butler gave him a USB drive containing his father's last words and some important secrets, then the butler disappeared without a trace.
Spirrow followed his father's last instructions, enduring hardships, and finally found the secret treasure passed down through their family for generations.
But what he didn't know was that the Sigrit family had been sending people to follow him.
The moment he found the secret treasure was also the moment he lost it.
However, Spirrow, relying on his wit, managed to escape with his life, fleeing all the way to Meteor City. The people chasing him did not follow further.
During his time in Meteor City, Spirrow became increasingly insane and perverse.
He hated the Sigrit family, and he envied those who had happy and fulfilling families.
He was like an ascetic, whipping and tormenting himself every day.
He lived every day consumed by hatred.
In contrast, the Sigrit family, after obtaining the secret treasure, flourished. They prospered in both official and commercial circles.
Sylvia Sigrit inherited everything from the Isaac family, and her grandfather, Demitrius Sigrit, who had masterminded all this, soared in prominence. In three years, he became the mayor of Gilf City, a legendary figure in high society.
"Since he had Nen abilities, why didn't he seek revenge?"
Illumi inquired. Although Spirrow's Nen abilities weren't impressive, killing ordinary people would be quite easy.
"Of course he wanted revenge, but what level is the mayor of Gilf City?"
"Naturally, he has experts as bodyguards. With Spirrow's strength, it wasn't enough to achieve it at all."
Dusana looked at Spirrow's corpse on the ground and scoffed.
"So he came to me and asked me to help him gather information on the Sigrit family."
"The Sigrit family has a partnership with Meteor City. There's no need to even think about which side to take."
"I gave him false information, and Severiano Sigrit personally made a move."
At this point, Dusana's expression changed, and he gritted his teeth.
"But I didn't expect that bastard Spirrow to somehow get an RPG."
"He didn't engage those people directly; he just blew Severiano to death."
"And he even brought back the secret treasure he lost."
Hearing this, Illumi understood the whole story.
He raised his right hand, a mass of white translucent Nen gathered in his palm. His palm opened and flattened, and the Nen flowed down like water, covering Spirrow's corpse.
"You, you must be a killer hired by the Sigrit family, right?"
Dusana seemed to recall something, his face brightening. He looked at Illumi, who was performing strange movements, and said.
"Your mission was only to kill Spirrow, not to kill me."
The implication was that Illumi's mission was complete, and he wouldn't have to die.
"That's right, the commission I received was to kill Spirrow. It has nothing to do with you."
Illumi replied. At the same time, Nen continuously surged from his hand, layer upon layer, covering Spirrow's corpse like a liquid.
"Then, that mask."
Dusana inwardly breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at the mask in Illumi's hand.
"The client offered me three times the price to hand over the mask to them."
Illumi continued with his right hand, while his left hand picked up the golden mask, seemingly observing it carefully.
"But I think, for a secret treasure like this, three times the price can't even buy a single grain of gold sand on it."
Dusana's eyes brightened, and he hastily said.
"I, I'm willing to offer a hundred times the price, as long as you leave the mask behind."
As his words fell, the Nen in Illumi's hand stopped flowing. The Nen on Spirrow's corpse condensed into a mass of turbid energy, constantly changing, twisting, and expanding until it stabilized.
"I neither want to hand over the mask to the client nor do I want to leave it behind."
Illumi slowly stood up. At this moment, Dusana's face turned blank upon seeing the monster that suddenly emerged from Spirrow's body. His legs buckled, and he collapsed to the ground.
"Hah~"
The lizard-like blue-green monster filled the passage, emitting heavy gasps. Thick white breath puffed out from its nostrils.
Illumi's bangs continuously danced from the white breath. He frowned.
The blue-green monster glanced at him, then immediately transformed into a pale-skinned young boy.
"Finally, I'm out."
Envy grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth. He walked towards Dusana, simultaneously transforming his body into Dusana's appearance.
"Mo-monster..."
Dusana's nose ran, and his eyes watered as he looked at Envy, who had taken his form and was approaching. He struggled to retreat.
